I was looking at IWU's All Time Men's Basketball Scores, and it lists IWU playing both Concordia Seminary (which would be in St. Louis) and then "Concordia" a few times in the 30's and 40's. I think the later might be Concordia-River Forest (Chicago). At any rate, that would be long before "DIII" designation; in fact, both IWU and CCRF were NAIA-affiliated for a while.

Anyway, this will be an opportunity for IWU (and RF) to get a lot of playing time for team members who don't ... get a lot of action otherwise if you get my drift. This game was only scheduled a few weeks ago after the 70th(!!) annual Concordia Invitational Tournament was cancelled again this year. Concordia was looking for a replacement game to take the place of the two they would have been playing otherwise this weekend. (Gee, Illinois Wesleyan was the only team you could find? Yikes.)

and IWU needed a replacement for the game lost on the NYC trip, against College of St. Vincent in the Bronx.  Luckily, the much-anticipated, much-hyped game against Yeshiva was played, with the result a delight to all Titan fans, near and far.  :)

I think the Titans will be able to handle "the much dreaded five guard offense," if that is what is is tonight.

I had scanned some Concordia Invitational results in the agate type of a newspaper a few years back and thought it interesting that all four participants were Concordias (Chicago, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nebraska).  I assumed at the time that it was a one-off event as I'd never really heard of it, but as RFMichigan notes above, it's been around for many many decades, and purports to be the second-longest running basketball tournament in the country.

Pre-Covid, there was only one season in which it was not played as scheduling conflicts curtailed the 1976 tournament.  It's pretty unique in that it is typically held in late January, when most schools are deep in the throes of conference play, and that it carries on even though most D3 schools moved on from playing recurring games against non-D3 opponents due to the way the Pool C rules evolved to encourage regional competition against other D3 member schools.  (IWU, as one example, ended a long-running series with Olivet Nazarene when the math for Pool C evolved.)

After attending the IWU @ NP game last week, I've been meaning to mention the Chicago skyline court is awesome.

The Windy City has its pluses and minuses and its ups and downs. It's a very complicated place to live and work. But for those of us who are a part of NPU, Chicago is home ... and we wouldn't have it any other way. Other schools may use Chicago as part of their brand or their identity even if it isn't deserved ([cough] Concordia [cough]) -- but North Park University is genuinely a Chicago school, and it's as much a part of this city as Lake Shore Drive, the Daley Plaza Picasso sculpture, and lawn-furniture winter parking dibs.

As a Concordia grad, we old-timers always refer to our alma mater as Concordia - River Forest!

As it should be.

NPU is still only slated to play 24 games; the Knox and Dominican games were canceled, and North Park was only able to pick up one in response (Benedictine, whom the Vikings beat last Saturday). I'm surprised that the Vikings and Cougars aren't filling in the remaining hole in each of their schedules by playing each other. Heck, you can take the CTA from one campus to the other.

Wheaton at NCC tonight - a pretty important game.

I've been monitoring the NCC website hoping to see a relaxing of spectator policy for tonight's game and allow non-NCC ers in.  With the decline of cases locally I thought maybe?  But it's looking doubtful (or I was too optimistic in the first place) now unless one of our NCC poster insiders are hearing any rumblings?

iwu70

GoPerry, hope you get in somehow.  I'm hoping NCC will win that game . . .

Unfortunately as far as I know we're still limited. I know the initial announcement said it was policy for January, and I hope for February they open back up, but it would have been awesome to have a packed house tonight.

Yes - that would have been cool.  Oh well,  I'll still watch the streaming broadcast - let's hope the announcers are any good . . .  ;)
