Well, I suppose that I have a semi-legitimate right to do so, being 1/16th Irish (one of my maternal great-great-grandmothers was an emigrant from Dublin named Ellen Murphy).

But my disdain for Illinois Wesleyan outranks my desire to engage in pan-Hibernian bonhomie on March 17 by at least a factor of ten.

No offense to Hope, Anderson, Greenville, or Wartburg, but you also won't catch me wearing orange on King's Day (April 22), which is the national day of celebration in the Netherlands and a day in which wearing orange is a big thing in the land of windmills and wooden shoes, even though I have Dutch ancestry as well. I think you know why. ;)

STEPPING AWAY FROM BASKETBALL/SPORTS

My better half, eligible, like myself, for the senior discount, recently spent 28 days in the hospital due to an infection  of unknown origin that was reaping havoc with 2 separate bodily systems. I should mention that she is a long term kidney transplant recipient having been on dialysis previously for 3 days a week for 18 months, and now on daily anti-rejection medication. To say her condition was perilous with the infections on top of her post transplant status is putting it mildly. Then, as if she didn't already have enough to deal with, she somehow acquired the COVID virus about halfway through her stay. To make a long story short, her doctors told us that the combined effects of the 2 infections on top of her compromised immune system resulting from the kidney transplant, had placed her in grave danger to begin with. Furthermore, that when she got the COVID on top of all the other stuff, that there was only one reason she survived. As you may have guessed, that was because she had previously gotten both doses of the vaccine AND the booster. The doctors all indicated that without all three shots, there was no way she would still be with us today.

My purpose in writing this is to urge anyone who hasn't gotten vaccinated and boosted to do so. Same with any friends or family members. It can save your life. My wife is proof. The pandemic has decreased, but Covid is still with us with very possible fatal consequences. Consuming bleach, or shining a light inside your body doesn't work. The vaccine works, and contrary to the beliefs of some far, far right Spidermen from Mars, contains no microscopic particles that make you devour your children, or stick to your refrigerator when you walk past it. If not for yourself, do it for those who love you. They'll miss you if you're gone.  :-[
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Don't surround yourself with yourself. 🧍🏼‍♂️(Yes)

Mark, I'm shocked that you're not going the full boat by wearing your old Bluejay mascot bird head today. ;)

Frankly, I just happy you know Greenville rolls in the glorious Pantone 158c.

Greg,   I had a few Blue Kool-Aid drinks after my hockey game last night.  Back in my Bachelor days I would have been at the game tonight no doubt.
I recall vividly being under the basket when Knuppel hit the GW shot to beat Wash U, in Victor E. Bluejay's suit back in '01.

Today, it's take kid A) here and kid B) there and with modern technology, easier to just log in for updates.

The Mrs. has mentioned that surprisingly the college has not talked much (students too) about the hype for the game.   She doesn't currently have any bball students in any of her classes though.

I'm hoping Elmhurst doesn't fall behind early and digs a hole that they cannot battle back from.

We will have to agree to disagree. However, I am concerned that either:
1) you didn't watch Elmhurst play this year, or
2) your vision and memory recall doesn't allow you to remember what you purportedly watched on Sat. night in Elmhurst v UMHB.  Josiah Johnson, a very comparable scorer - albeit it a stronger/better athlete than Davidson - and suitably decorated All-American from UMHB, was held to a 3-19 shooting performance by the very same defenders that will be assigned to Davidson.

Let me allay your concerns. I've watched close to a dozen Elmhurst games this season. In fact, I broadcasted one. And I remember very well what Elmhurst did to shut down Josiah Johnson on Saturday; let's not forget that I am essentially the only one who has posted on this board about that game, aside from your offhand mention that it was even more physical than the Wabash @ IWU game. Question is: Do you remember what Calvin guard Thad Shymanski did to Elmhurst the night before? I'll spare you the trouble of having to look it up: 31 points in 32 minutes on 10-14 shooting from the field and 7-7 from downtown, with a positive a:to of 3:2.

Before you respond with a 750-word tome of how Davidson is different, and therefore this is NOT an apples to Texas Red Grapefruit comparison (per the gardnersnet.com - Indiana does not have an official state fruit - so I just inserted the standard beginning of the well-worn "apples to oranges" phrase... which to assist in your comprehension is a reference to two things that are fundamentally different and therefore not suited to comparison)

Your condescension is neither welcome nor constructive.

Look, I don't wear green, and I've done nothing to you other than politely disagree with you a couple of times. We can have a civil conversation here, or we can end it right now. Your choice.

No.

I think that if there is one team in the Final Four that has proven its ability in this tournament to battle back after digging itself a hole, it's Elmhurst.

Interesting either/or statement.  *For sure* Greg has seen Elmhurst play, since he does the PBP for all the Viking home games (in multiple sports, I may add), and he very well have made the trek out to Elmhurst for the away contest as well -- I don't know.  But rest assured he would have parsed the specifics of that game, too.

Really? You're kidding...I didn't realize that from any of his 25,199 posts on this forum.

Thanks for pointing that out.

(The lack of contextual comprehension from a written passage by long time posters in this forum with impressive intellectual capacity is astounding! Do I really have to include some form of "#sarcasm" in posts that include even a milligram of sarcasm?)

In sales, you ask a question in an "either/or" framework whereby both responses provide a desirable answer (to go even further, the second question/option should be the one that is most desirable to the person asking the question).

A familiar debate/argument tactic includes framing a question or viewpoint in an either/or format where the first option is not true or possible, therefore the point you're trying to make is the only option to be accepted or considered possible.

Now back to the basketball discussion (such as it is...)

Very much so!!  Although I - like GS - am really not a fan of wheaties orange, but then I suspect my "color palette" to be a bit more refined than your average Joe.

I'm looking forward to the Thomas vs Schreiber matchup - if not their battle during the play but the potential jawing, chest thumping and other antics after the whistle.

I wouldn't mind Rhode being a little more selfish with the ball tonight.  When EC has needed it he has come through.  But sometimes I feel like he is holding back in the first 20 mins when he could be providing more 1st half scoring.

On the other hand it is all working.  Ocean Johnson has been a big beneficiary on getting the ball more and he has been delivering big time.  And Genco has been playing at a super high level as well.

Go 'Jays!

Unscientific rankings of regional d3 athletic programs who don orange...

1st - the 'Ville' - 158c (clear winner.  this shade is a blue collar everyman's orange)
2nd - Hope - 166c (clearly a strong hue but often this coloration thinks its better than you just because its 166c)
3rd - Wartburg - 158 (or 172) (both are nice, but perhaps pick a pigment)
4th - Wheaton - 159c ("our tincture is the only proper tincture" is just the kind of stuff that earns you 4th place ranking)
5th - Anderson - 021 (just a tinge too basic)

Good luck Elmhurst.
