NCC has announced the resignation of Head Coach Todd Raridon. He will be leaving to become head coach at his alma mater, Hastings College.

I wonder if this caught them off guard, since Hastings announced it two days ago.

I kind of liked when you could smite specific posts. It actually made more sense. Instead of wondering why you got dinged, at least you'd know what post people didn't like.

Actually, I've gotten dinged over a dozen times the past 2 weeks. I never said anything about it because, frankly, I don't care. It doesn't hurt my feelings at all and I don't feel loved when someone "applauds" me. I'm guessing others can be a little more sensitive about it though. If anything, recently, it's amused me that someone has taken time out of their lives to purposely smite me for no reason at all. When I was getting dinged, I joked to myself that I must have stolen their pick in a fantasy league draft.
This is the system I liked best.

I've been dinged 35 times in the last couple of months.  Can anyone top that?  ???

(Why adults place so much importance on what other people think of them - especially people they have never met - will forever exceed my understanding of all things logical and rational.)

That the human brain has evolved to regulate a sense of status and rewards or punishes the brain by changing the levels of serotonin, dopamine and so on must fall under the exceed my understanding clause.

I find it fascinating from a socio-psychological perspective that an individual would take the time to login and target 14 posters with something so simple as a smite.  And has been doing so regularly since November or December.  I have my theories as to why, but alas...

You can add all of the scientific mumbo-jumbo you want (although you'll lose all of the religious-folk who believe what they believe because that's what they've been told to believe), I just like to keep it simple: If I would never listen to your advice, why would I ever listen to your criticism?

Put another way: I don't know you - so I don't care what you think of me.

Coach Raridon excelled at Nebraska Wesleyan and North Central.  He assumes control of a poor team back in Nebraska.  I wish him well.  I wonder if either son will join his coaching staff.

No need to wonder. The correct answer is NO. Todd talked to Athletic Administration and submitted his resignation Monday morning at the latest. I believe it may have actually been late last week. So NCC had for sure received notice. On Monday afternoon 3/21, Hastings released it's announcement. What did happen is just that NCC didn't release their statement until today. I've heard, but cannot confirm, that was due to the SID staff being out of the office prior to today. But no, they weren't caught off guard as word as out on campus as of Monday morning.

Not to make light of your situation 77, but I've been hit almost daily M-F, and on occasional weekend days since at least early January. Craziness for sure but what can you do?

As far as any Sons of Raridon following him into the coaching profession, I'd say chances are slim and none. At one time there were strong indications that the eldest Mitchell, who was NCC head assistant at one time, would indeed be following in his dad's footsteps. However, he and Brianna wound up moving near her family in Texas where I believe Mitch has established a career medical sales. I don't believe either Derek or Connor had any coaching aspirations. They are currently employed in financial planning and banking, respectively.

Want to stop people from smiting, I say out them on the board if they do it more than once a day!

They get their name in lights....

I know, won't happen, but sure would be fun to see who these idiots are that take the time to log in and do it so regularly.

A very good idea indeed, Mark. One reason the a**wipes do it is the anonymity afforded them under the present system. But, as you said, no chance. Besides, Pat is probably limited as to the number of possibilities he has to manipulate things within the system.

Pat Coleman -
I appreciate the tweaking you are making towards the smite process, but it's too little, too late for me... I got dinged by idiots a zillion times, probably 80 percent of my total, when you had the politics forum here. Ha. Or maybe I was the idiot... Ha.  ;)

But anyway, your removing that forum - a wise decision - has saved my chrome dome from any more hair pulling after those daily battles in the forum...

It was fun while it lasted, but did perhaps spiral out of control... When you removed that forum, I turned to newspapers to do that sort of commenting, but was still losing my sanity on a daily basis. Ha.

I am now a recovering addict who is about two years in on not posting political comments to newspaper websites, thanks in part to you! And man, my life blood pressure is a lot lower these days, and my life is sure a lot better for it...

Thanks, and keep up the great work on this website for all of us who appreciate D3 sports!

Fun fact, which I just learned the other day from surveying the Hastings Broncos basketball page in order to see what Todd Raridon was getting himself into, and which may not interest anybody other than myself and inveterate Oklahoma football fan (and, thus, long-time Cornhuskers hater) Mark Erickson, is that Tom Osborne scored over 1,200 points as a Broncos basketball player.
