Next Man Up

Head Coach finalist interviews have been concluded and votes are being tabulated at North Central with the expectation being that a job offer will be extended between tomorrow and the first couple of days next week.
While there are four strong candidates, there is one favored by the players, and by the vast majority of alumni, parents, and boosters.

Vince Kmiec was pretty heavily recruited coming out of high school. He had lots of choices. But he choose NCC which he entered as a freshman in 2010. He's been there ever since. 12 years as a record setting player, a grad assistant, an assistant coach, and the last four years as head assistant. 12 years playing under, and learning from one of the most successful coaches in the history of D3 basketball who has won more games than all but twenty nine people who have ever coached D3 basketball. 12 years of never experiencing a losing season.

And, despite the possibility of soon being told "thanks, now there's the door" Vince has continued to demonstrate his loyalty on a daily basis, calling committed recruits, and continuing to pursue still uncommitted targets.

Through the uncertainty, he has never wavered in either his dedication or loyalty to North Central. The question now is whether those attributes will be returned.

He could be testing the waters and return to iwu, right?

Hearing rumors of "another D3 job opening in the Midwest"... could it be?

Just like my sources - two separate ones - gave me the NCC finalists 12hrs before I posted it (and I chose not to name names), I've heard this one from my coaching contacts more and more the last 48hrs. I posted what I did as a literary homage to that East Coast guy.

He never came close to nailing the DePauw hire... I knew of the offer before it was accepted (just like I knew who the 1st choice was for Whitworth College women before he turned it down and they hired the asst from the mens program).

I WAS born at night - just not LAST night!

Interestingly, I knew the names 30 minutes before you posted because the other guy posted details with names.

I don't want to make a big deal about this but I knew the names 24 hours BEFORE the previous post said he knew them.

Deepthroat,
Congrats on having the names 24 hours before itsnotmeitsyou said he had them. I'm sending you a + 1 for that.  :)
However, I'm glad you don't want to make a big deal out of it, because the names were first known back on April 18th!
Give me a couple minutes please, and I'll explain.

North Central on campus finalist interviews began today with Todd Kelly, former NCC Head Asst, and former HC at Illinois Tech from 2014-15 through 2019-2020 when he resigned from coaching and moved to Texas.

Interviews will continue next M-W.

Vince Kmiec — Current NCC Head Asst
Anthony Figueroa — Current HC at Parkland JUCO
Joe Kennedy — Current asst at D1 Holy Cross

Seems like a strange mixture. Not sure how the atmosphere at a JUCO meshes with that which exists at a highly rated NCAA D3 institution. And have to wonder why a D1 asst wants to move down to D3 rather than up to a more prominent D1.

Just learned, through sources, the identities of the finalists at NCC. Gotta admit - I'm surprised at the pool here (as well at NPU). Generally speaking, there isn't a common thread amongst them. Certainly a wide variety of backgrounds. Two candidates that would accept the gig in a heartbeat (since they essentially don't have an alternative right now; two others that would have decisions to make (a D1 asst. and a Juco HC).  (You'd have a 75% of winning if you bet the new coach has a last name that starts w/ the letter "K".

Definitely not the caliber of experiences that are worthy of the top job in a premier conference, IMHO.

Will be interesting to see if this wraps up late next week (as you might think) or if the recent death of a close family member of the NCC President will delay a decision. My source doesn't honestly know who is making the hire - the AD or the V.P. (w/ a Presidential rubber stamp) or if the President is more heavily involved.

Curious to see if one of the candidates "burning of the bridges"-reaction when bypassed for another recent CCIW gig will be held against him... (my guess is the Admins at NCC don't have a clue that the emotional, and borderline unprofessional, response occurred).

All right itsnotmeitsyou, you can climb down from on top of the s**t pile and stop crowing now.  :P

1. It seems most people who know how to to tell time know 12:05 is 40 minutes before 12:45.  ::)
2. In your 12:45 post on 4/23 you said you "just learned" the identities of the finalists at NCC.
3. But then yesterday, 4/29. at 11:09 PM you told us that you learned the identities of the finalists "12 hours" before you posted. You added that you chose not to name names.
4. Any possibility you "chose not to name names" because, as WUPHF just confirmed, the names had already been posted???
5. And OK, fine, lets say you learned of the identities "12 hours" as you said, before you posted (but did not name names)  :D
That would make it 12:45 PM on April 22 that you knew the identities (which you again chose not to post  ;) ) of the finalists. Congratulations.
However, it seems that someone who did post the names has the names with a date/time stamp on his phone as 5:34 PM on Mon, April 18, almost four full days prior to your learning of the, evidently to you, mysterious identities.

Seems your infamous sources were a little slow in their information gathering skills.  ;)  Or perhaps you just need to ask for a refund from that mail order investigations course you took.

Anyway, a final decision should come fairly early next week from among the four finalists------whose name I choose not to reveal.  8-)

You're EXACTLY right... I learned the names of the finalists from two sources (one internal and one external) mid-day on Sat 4/22. Started to a post but was then pre-occupied w/ my coaching duties and finished the post later that night. When I hit "Post" got the notification that someone else had posted on the topic and choose to post anyway and read your post.

CONGRATS!! You were the first one to "post" the names.

I choose not to post names for a variety of reasons. I'm not looking to be the D3-Adam Schefter. No interest in that. If I wanted to, there were three different sources I could have reached out to for info on finalist details. I don't really care - other than they find someone with head coaching experience (THAT is a HUGE predictor of future success).

You can go over the the Womens Region 10 board for my post on 4/12 drive o the NWC board re: the Whitworth search. Top candidate offered the job in 4/11 and turned it down after they could not reach agreement on some key details (had to move from Midwest). Announced another candidate on 4/18. My bonafides are quite fine.

Btw - you didn't mention the key detail of the death in President Hammonds family and the services were this weekend did you? And that would/could delay the selection/announcement?... Oh wait, that was me (in my 4/22 post and came from my internal source).

Have they announced anyone yet? #askingforafriend

Here's one for you: IF and WHEN Todd Kelly isn't named the HC, he'll be on this forum with some sort of soliloquy about the search process... #historyrepeats
