NCC President has "resigned". I do wonder if one or two of the coaches who let would have stuck around if they had assurances of that outcome.

Certainly lot's of people leaving NCC. I have a list of about 8-10 football players I would like to see "resign".

Surprise, surprise, USee. NCC fans feel exactly the same about an equal number of Wheaties. Shall we exchange lists?  ;)

Well, I challenge NCC fans to name a single Wheaton player from this coming season's roster they are worried about. I'll save my comments about this for the football board.

We're always worried about any player who dresses in orange and blue.  :)
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

By "resigned" in quotes, should we take that to mean that the president was asked to resign by the board of trustees?

All indications are that sometime in April or early May the Board had informed Assistant AD Sue Kane-Hammond that she would be "resigning" effective May 27th. Why they then let her be a member of the Selection Committee to pick the new basketball coach is a source of wonderment to a plethora of NCC sports fans in general and basketball fans in particular. The consensus is that the Board had had it with the President over some personal issues, that many prominent alums had both written and called about, that they felt were not positive reflections on NCC. Also, the widely held feeling was that at least two specific actions (one being the hiring of Jessica Brown as VP of Athletics) by the President were at least partially responsible for the recent resignations of several highly successful long term head coaches that the Board was sorry to see go.
The sum of the parts has resulted in the widespread belief that the Board of Trustees may not, at least at this time, have asked President Hammond to resign, but that they hoped this would be the result of their dismissal of his wife whose actions were basically in lock-step with the aforementioned Jessica Brown.

In the pantheon of Higher Education, it is a widely implemented practice (to the point of standard operating procedure and anything to the contrary should be viewed with eyebrow raising skepticism) that a President (or someone in a similarly elevated leadership position like a Chancellor or university system leader) announces a "retirement" upwards of a year in advance. That timeframe thusly allows for the requisite search process to be conducted and a seamless transition to take place.

Any "retirement" or "resignation" occurring in a "he's leaving now so we'll name an interim leader"-scenario should rightly be viewed, despite any utopian platitudes bestowed upon the departing executive via institutional press release, with "Palace intrigue"-like suspicion due a coup d'etat or village uprising. This is especially so when there is no proclamation of a departure to assume another leadership position. The silence is so deafening that one can almost hear the smoke rising from the fire burning within...

Or they resign to the faculty for the sinecure of a life time.

I know higher education, but have not had a chance to read the details other than a cursory glance at previous posts.  I did go to the North Central athletics staff directory and noticed that the President was listed as a member of the athletics staff.  Definitely never seen that before...

Lots of people wondered why his name was listed as being being an athletics staff member. Maybe it was because he occasionally attended an athletic contest. It's now been removed.

It was also surprising why Sue Hammond was listed as Sue Kane before her name was removed. I guess they didn't want people speculating as to the possibility of her having any undue capacity to effect the behavior and/or decision making of the College's chief executive. ;)

Lots of people have never seen lots of stuff thats transpired at NCC recently.   :o  :o  :o

Troy Hammond, who just resigned the North Central College Presidency, is the current chair of the NCAA Division III Presidents Council so a new Chair might be needed.

I know, I know, I make one of my increasingly infrequent appearances on the board yesterday and I'm back so soon?! I guess I'm just trying to do my part to fill the Q void. Now that we've (presumably) wrung every drop out of the NCC hiring situation and the Cal Tech admissions process, how about a different topic? Years ago, there was a pretty solid D2/D3/NAIA summer league that played out of Des Plaines just outside of Chicago. It died off and then resurrected out at Joy of the Game in Deerfield. That died off too, pre-Covid. Has anyone heard any talk of a similar type of league in the works for this summer? I could use a fix.

P.S.  By the way, thanks to all of you regular posters for your commitment to this board. It is one of my go-to's, in and out of season and I appreciate the level of discussion and depth of information and commitment.....and zeal.  ;D

Unfortunately, I don't have many details but I've heard some of the guys from various CCIW conference teams (and possibly other teams) have started informal games. Similar to the setup at Elmhurst in recent years. I've heard Wheaton, and I've heard Mondays. I'll try to get some more details.

Thanks for that, Mark. I have my son's high school summer league and live tournaments to keep me entertained but those only last through the end of June. Any other info you or anyone else comes across will be greatly appreciated.

Well, it's certainly not the crime of the century, but a little investigating reveals a bit of clandestine activity may have recently occurred within the confines of King Arena.  8-)
Authorities at Wheaton indicate the gym is supposed to be closed to anyone other than Wheaton students and staff until August 1st. Should anyone other than a member of the immediate Wheaton family be found within the confines prior to then, they will be asked to vacate the premises forthwith.  :D

Lou is one of the scrappiest, toughest players I've ever seen, you have to be when you're 5' 8".  Played for late hard-nosed coach, Kevin Brown at Washington High School (IL).  Great guy and likely a very good culture add for NP.
