I'll bet all the corn in Manito that there isn't.

I Google Manito and corn and found out what many of you may know, but Manito has a popcorn festival with a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in September.  A quick bus of various sizes or Rivian away from Bloomington-Normal.  Learn something new everyday...

Augustana Medical School... Are there any other CCIW inside jokes left to be played?

Depends if Illinois Western is hoarding guards or not.

Send me all the corn Gregory!  You neglected to mention Augustana's spiked football helmets.  In fairness, that joke is from the football board.

CONGRATULATIONS

To Landon Gamble, North Central Class of '14 on his being selected to be inducted into the NCC Athletic Hall of Fame.
During Landon's time at North Central the Cardinals won two CCIW Championships, two CCIW Tournament Championships, and advanced to the 2013 NCAA D3 National Semifinals.
Upon his graduation he ranked as the program's leader in games played with 112, while ranking third in field goals made with 618, and fourth in scoring with 1,616 points.

Landon is one of, I believe, only five players ever to named First Team All CCIW Conference all four years. He was a First Team D3Hoops All-American in 2013.

IWU's new roster up . . .  23 players in all, with 8 newbies.  Freshmen include a player with family ties to Croatia and a new student/player from Strasbourg, France.  Looks to be a pretty strong recruitment class.  You can see the bios there on the roster page of iwu.edu "athletics"

Starting line-up still likely seems to me to be:  Heflen, Sroka, Roper, Mitchell and Wilmsen . . . with Heaton and Hakim Williams playing a major part in the rotation.  Not sure on others.  The Titans could be one of the taller teams in D3 -- quite athletic.

I have no idea if any of the newbies have a chance for minutes.  Seems unlikely given the strength of what IWU has coming back, even with the major departures of Yoder, Leritz, Noe, and Lambesis.

Let's hope for a JV schedule of some sort to develop the pine-sitters down the roster.

Perhaps Q will post his normal season revue interview with Coach Rose on his iwuhoops.com site.  In due time.

Football first.

Imitzel, thanks for the alert . . . I had missed Q's show in early August . . . I was out of the country for three weeks.   Just watched it, this preliminary interview, pre-Greece trip, with Coach Rose.  I guess Bob will do the full season review as he usually does later on.

IWU in for a tough pre-CCIW season schedule.  I'm personally looking forward to the Sikma tournament to start out and to welcome our good friends from the Yeshiva program to Bloomington/Normal.

I had stopped checking for a while, but here is Carroll's schedule in full finally.

Non cons vs Whitman, vs Dubuque, vs Northland, vs Illinois Tech, vs Concordia Chicago, at Colorado College, n TBA CC Tournament, n UW-River Falls, at Lake Forest.

North Park has made a positive change in its schedule, swapping out NAIA outfit Cardinal Stritch for Grinnell for the second game of the season:

https://athletics.northpark.edu/sports/mens-basketball/schedule

In the past, I would not have characterized adding Grinnell to the schedule in a positive light, because like a lot of coaches and long-time D3 fans I don't think that you really help your garden-variety D3 team much by playing a System team. But North Park isn't going to be a garden-variety D3 team anymore; Sean Smith wants to play serious uptempo basketball, and nothing helps you peg the needle in the red zone in terms of a basketball game's velocity more -- and tests your depth as a running team more -- than playing a System team. Win or lose, this will be a good early-season experience for the Vikings in terms of what they are planning to become. The fact that the game will take place on the home floor of the Pioneers after a long day of leg-cramping bus travel for the Vikings is a bonus.

Grinnell's second generation System evolution isn't the same kind of rediculous for opponents as the original version, either.

No specifics yet, but look for North Central to be newly attired this season.
One thing that seems likely is that even though the shade of the Cards road unis for the last umteen years hasn't exactly been what can be considered Cardinal red, any new road outfits will most likely continue to be the same shade of "red" we've grow accustomed to.
Something possible is the introduction of a third alternative color uniform. As with any expenditure relative to D3 athletics, cost on top of two other sets of new uniforms will be the primary deciding factor.

Can't stand the maroon uniforms!  I was hoping that would be flushed with a new coach.

As previously indicated, I've been advised that new sets of both home and road Cardinal unis have indeed been ordered. Both will be pretty close to whats been worn by the Cards for the last several years including having North Central in script on both sets of uniforms. And yes, the road version will continue to be more of a  shade of maroon/burgundy rather than tending toward a regular "Cardinal" red.  :D

The-person-known-on-these-boards as KnightSlappy and I launched a D3 basketball youtube show last month (link in the sig) and one of the topics we discussed for this time leading up to the new season is a D3 basketball bucket list. We have been trying to solicit feedback for that via the YT channel and twitter but wanted to put out the call here as well as we know not everyone is connected on those platforms.

We got started with a few items of our own and some feedback from others already but are looking for as much input to consider as possible. If you have a game, venue, event, etc. you think is essential bucket list material for any D3 basketball fan please send me a private message this week and we will be sure to add it to the list. Thanks!

Newest Q-Cast dropped today, featuring new NCC coach Anthony Figueroa.

Good interview in which Coach Figueroa comes across as professional, poised, and prepared to take on the challenges that his new position will present.
