I guess that makes sense with North Central, but there are a number of institutions with the name North Central [public reference] College.  In Missouri, we have North Central Missouri College.  There has to be 4-5 others at least.

Final from the Griz:

North Park 64
Millikin 62

Kolden Vanlandingham: 14 pts, 8 rebs
Jalen Boyd: 11 pts
Shamar Pumphrey: 10 pts, 3 stls
Adam Bulwa: 7 rebs
Marquise Jackson: 6 rebs, 3 stls

J.T. Welch: 14 pts, 3 stls
Landon Hullinger: 11 pts, 11 rebs
Noah Livingston: 10 pts
Cole Laurence: 7 rebs

Vikes eke out a close one on the road to improve to 5-1, 1-0. MU drops to 5-2, 0-1.

It will be a long but happy busride home.

Wheaton 75, Augustana 61

Tyson Cruickshank 22 pts, 5 rebs -
Tj Askew 16 pts
Eddie Scott 12 pts
Andrew Williams 6 pts,7 rebs

Dan Carr  17 pts,9 rebs
Matt Hawkins 16 pts

The Thunder struggled with foul trouble most of the game.  Cruickshank picked up his 3rd two minutes into the 2nd half and Askew did the same 4 minutes in.  The score was 48-44 Wheaton when they both returned with 9 minutes left.  Askew hit two consecutive treys and then Cruickshank scored 16 of his 22 pts in the last 8 mins to put the game out of reach.  Both Scott and Williams did a great job playing big minutes and keeping the game controlled.

Wheaton did a great job containing Carr.  He got very few good looks or easy buckets.

An expected but a very important win for Wheaton as they now face a tough stretch in the next three: vs Calvin, vs Elmhurst, @ IWU.

Big surprise in Faganel, as Illinois Wesleyan took it to Elmhurst, 68-54.

North Central waltzed to a 73-50 win over Carroll in the hangar.

To my pleasant surprise, IWU over #11 Elmhurst 68-54.

IWU dominated the glass 58-37 and had a very balanced scoring attack.

Roper only played 1 minute, so perhaps an injury?   I know not.

EU:
Johnson 16
Hooker 11

EU a very poor night shooting . . . or strong IWU defense . . . EU at 27%, 25% from three, and 52% from the charity stripe.

IWU:
Heflen 14
Mitchell 13 and 9  (one T)
Sroka 11 and 11
Williams of the bench, a superb 11 and 11

That's a great start for the Titans to get a road win against one of the top teams right off the bat.   Way to go lads!

North Central topped Carroll 73-50 in the Hangar.

This one was, charitably, not as close as the final score might indicate.  From my POV, North Central took a step forward versus what it showed in its first few games -- better balance in scoring, better defense, better shot selection.  Progress is progress, but how much of that was due to the Cardinals versus their opponent is an open question.  Carroll is still finding its way with the coaching change and is most likely in for a long season.  18 Pios saw game action, with none playing more than 24 minutes.

North Central:
Terrance Moncrief a career high 17 on 7-of-8 shooting
Ethan Helwig with 15
Brian Johnson with 10
Matt Helwig with 10

Carroll:
Jacob Nabor with 15
Justin Steinike with 10

Carroll shot 6-of-31 from beyond the arc.

But all of this buries the lede.  BILL WARDEN WAS IN THE HOUSE!  No doubt if he'd strapped on a pair of olde-timey sneakers, he would have dropped a Daniel Carr-like 28 and 12.

Gregory Sager

Bill's gotta be, what, 113 years old now? And he probably looks the same now as he did when he was prowling the sideline with that trademark scowl of his back in the '80s and '90s.

Yeah, NCC scored the game's first eight points and never trailed, leading by double digits for most of the contest. Terrance was really impressive, going on a personal 8-0 that included a layup with a foul, then after a Cardinal offensive rebound, getting another bucket.

I found out about this yesterday when I got my game script a day early since we had a mini ceremony at halftime. Bill got a nice ovation from the home crowd tonight.

Kiko is being very charitable to Carroll in his post.

Tonight was completely non competitive. North Central could have named the score. I have tried to stay positive as a new fan and new poster to this board, but tonight was so disappointing.

Carroll won't win a CCIW game playing like that. They can't score. I continue to be perplexed on the lineup shuffling and offensive gameplan. Both things totally changed from the first time I saw them in the Whitewater scrimmage.

As to the University/College nomenclature discussion, for what it's worth, I was always led to believe IWU's use of University stemmed from having multiple Schools of study e.g. School of Liberal Arts, School of Fine Arts, School of Nursing, etc. rather than any reference to graduate level programs.  I don't have any strong feelings one way or another as to which is the proper distinction, just offering some perspective.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Roper landed awkwardly on his ankle. BobQ believes it is a severe ankle sprain, which obviously could mean he misses multiple months. Hopefully it is not so severe.

BTW Gregory, freshman Jacob Nabor saw extended action for the Pios tonight.  There's an entire subgenre of sly asides sitting on the tee for you when Paradisio Dante and Nabor are standing side by side on the floor.

Also, how is it possible that Paradisio Dante hails from a town that sits 6,224 feet above sea level?

That... was actually his smile.  :)

As far as I can tell, Illinois Wesleyan has always been known as a University.  Only later did they organize schools.  I have to think it was more aspirational by the founders rather than anything else.

Carroll's starters scored a combined 20 points.
Carroll shot only 25.8% (17/66) for the entire game, including 19.4% (6/31) from three.
NCC's totals were 48.3%, and 38.9% respectively.
Cards outscored the Wisconsinites 14-0 on the break.
