Greg, thanks for all the data on Saturday's line-up.

I think the IWU games are earlier -- women at 2 p.m. and men at 4:15 p.m.   Could be wrong.

Gregory Sager

No, you're right. Both the WC and IWU sites confirm that their women's game is at 2 pm and their men's game is at 4:15 pm.

This is not the first time that the CCIW website's got it wrong this year. It's becoming annoying, because that's always been my one-stop go-to for game times -- and I'm sure that I'm not the only one who checks there for game times rather than going to each of the sites of all eight CCIW teams that are playing on a given game day.

Brainard Street needs to do better.

Saturday's slate:

All games at 4:15 pm
Augustana @ Carthage
Carroll @ Millikin
North Central @ Elmhurst
Wheaton @ Illinois Wesleyan

Massey sez:

Carthage 77, Augustana 75  CC 58%, AC 42%
Millikin 67, Carroll 62  MU 70%, CU 30%
North Central 79, Elmhurst 73  NCC 70%, EU 30%
Illinois Wesleyan 72, Wheaton 70  IWU 57%, WC 43%

Gregory,
Not sure where you got your information. I hope the above third game turns out as you typed it, but the true Massey prediction is;

Elmhurst 80, North Central 73     EU 70%,  NCC 30%

So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Yeah, I accidentally inverted the EC vs. NCC outcome, but the differences in the two predicted scores must be something that has happened over the course of the evening as more information gets fed into Ken's computer, because the outcomes I relayed in that post were accurate at the time.

And now it appears the computer evidently got enough new info to change the Wheaton point total by 1.  ::)

Now it's shifted again. If you run WC @ IWU through the matchup tool, it shows WC 70, IWU 69, with a 52%-48% likelihood favoring the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance.

Been a while -- some catch up in the Carroll world:

1.  I am new to this -- the Massey rating stuff in super interesting.  Didn't work out last weekend.  UW-River Falls is #124 in the Massey and Carroll is #187.  Maybe just an outlier as Carroll won 61-46 on a neutral court in a game that wasn't really close.  The eye test from the stream of the game told me UW River Falls was not a good team at all.  Maybe the CCIW depth at the bottom of the league better than the WIAC?  Not sure since I haven't seen a whole lot of either in my time following Carroll - I was surprised in hearing how good the WIAC is at the result of the game though.  But Carroll still can't score (especially can't score enough to win in the CCIW).  Lucky that UW-River Falls only got to 46 themselves.

2.  Anyone have next Carroll coach thoughts?  Probably too early -- and who knows maybe they improve (Coach Taylor Jannsen is 3-5 so far in his interim status) enough where Jannsen is inserted full time at the end of the year.  I don't know the school requirements; I would think they would have to open it up no matter what.  Anyway, the only name I have heard at all up here is Kyle Jones, former Carroll player and long-time Carroll assistant, and currently the top assistant to Matt Lewis at UW Osh-Kosh.  Seems like that would be a good, logical fit.  Any other candidates come to mind?  Seems like there are quite a few good long time CCIW assistants ready for a next step?  Any sense if a guy like Andy Etheridge from IWU would be interested?  Anyone else that should be on a list?

3.  Millikin this weekend.  Hope Massey is right in the respect the game might be close.  They (Millikin) seem like they should be better than their record.  We will see.

Anyway, I don't post much but really enjoy reading everyone's takes on things.  Keeps my Carroll "boostering" interesting!

Greek Tragedy

River Falls lost their best player, by far, Noah Hanson and starting guard Jake Reek to season-long injuries in a scrimmage at the beginning of the year. The Falcons weren't going to win the league or anything, but they were supposed to be better than they are now.

Other than those already mentioned above, here are some other possibilities for possible candidates for the Carroll top job that quickly come to mind. I'm sure there will be many more.

* Steve Schweer—In his 5th year as head coach at Illinois College. Extensive CCIW experience. 4 year player at IWU, former asst at Lakeland, GA at NPU of the CCIW, 5 yr asst at Monmouth, and 2 yrs as head asst at NCC. Recently applied for the head position at NCC that went to Anthony Figueroa. Seems his name comes up any time there is top opening in the CCIW.

* Steve Kollar—-Knows the CCIW area. 4th yr head coach at the insanely named Concordia-Chicago in River Forest where he is undefeated so far this season. Previous head coach at little Blackburn College. Previous head asst at local Benedictine.

* Payton Wyatt—-Graduate and former player at Elmhurst. Current head asst at Elmhurst during a very successful period in their basketball history.

* Zack Jadzak—-Wheaton native. Played at NAIA St. Ambrose in Iowa. Former head asst at Blackburn. Former head asst, and recruiting coordinator at local Aurora U. Previous GA at NCC. Currently in his 4th year as head asst at Buena Vista of the ARC. Semi-finalist just last year for the Head NPU job. Father is a Carroll grad.

... and a graduate of, and former player for, Elmhurst.

(Incidentally, his current GA at Concordia IL is former Augie forward Justin Bottorff.)

Recent historical hires provides evidence which surpasses the term "coincidence" and rises to the level of "trend".  The next Carroll Head Coach is likely to be a first timer! (I'm sure there will be 75+ applicants).

What most definitely was a "coaches league" with veteran, experienced head coaches with D1 ability/experience is now a league, more than at any time in several decades, a league with a significant number of first time/low experience head coaches.

Final from Faganel:

North Central 78
Elmhurst 71

Elmhurst looked borderline incompetent for quite a bit of this game, to the point where a disgusted John Baines benched his three best weapons -- Ocean Johnson, John Ittounas, and Wesley Hooker -- for the bulk of a second half in which North Central had a 21-point lead at one stretch. The Bluejays bench did make it interesting on the back nine, knocking down the deficit to a mere four points in the waning seconds, but the hole EU had dug for itself was too deep. Nice coming-out party today for new NCC forward Mitch Lewis, who led the way for the victors with 19 points on 8-10 shooting from the field.

The Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance waltzed to a surprisingly easy road victory in Bloomington by dominating on the boards and getting great production from behind the arc.

The Firebirds are quietly doing everything necessary to make themselves a contender this season. Don't look now, but they've won seven games in a row.
