What's the good word out of Wheaton? I've literally heard nothing from them. I think I posted one recruit, but no other news on recruits or transfers.

Obviously NPU has had a lot of headlines. Bulatovic is coming back to Carthage and their D1 transfer. Johnson and Zapinski back for Elmhurst, in addition to Mitchell transferring in from W&J and the D1 transfer. NCC has the Albion transfer coming in. IWU has Yoder coming back.

We typically hear little or nothing out of Decatur, so I have no idea who Millikin is bringing into the Big Blue program. But just in terms of returners, Millikin strikes me as a very viable dark horse in the CCIW for 2023-24. Kramer Soderberg's ability to recruit far downstate Illinois and the St. Louis are should not be underestimated.

Thanks for the insight on Millikin, but that doesn't really answer my question on Wheaton. LOL

I wasn't responding to your question about Wheaton. I was responding to your second paragraph, which details new additions to the presumptive upper half of the 2023-23 CCIW. That's why I focused upon what I consider to be the very real possibility that the Big Blue could be a CCIW tournament team this coming season.

Wheaton has active posters on this board. They should be the ones introducing Wheaton's new recruits, not me. I'm not going to step on their toes.

Congrats to NPU class of '23 grad Marquise Jackson, who just signed a contract to play for BC Highlanders in the Republic of Georgia.

Kinda fitting, since his hometown is Macon, the fourth-largest city in the Peach State. He's gone from Georgia to Georgia. ;)

Well that makes at least three quality additions then because Tyler Swierczek from Palatine High School is a Freshman who would add value to any CCIW rotation. Ive seen him play for four years now and he is the real deal. Solid all round player on both ends of the floor and particularly dangerous from beyond the arc.

I claim no insider privileges regarding the Wheaton program at all.  I learn about Wheaton roster, recruits, injuries from this board as much as everyone else.  Sometimes I'll hear things around campus or games, but that's about it.

No idea what Wheaton will look like this season, but the early schedule seems like it's pretty tame. Obviously not taking anything for granted, but if all things go well, they should have a decent record going into the first three games of the conference season. Greg said Millikin could be a dark horse, while NCC has made news with a few transfers. Carroll could be predicted last again. Before the new year, the heavy weights come in with Calvin, JCU, and possibly Wooster.

Benedictine (12-14, 9-7)
Lake Forest (11-14, 8-8)
Piedmont (13-14, 5-7)
Alma (6-19, 3-11) or Heidelberg (19-8, 13-5)
@ Transylvania (14-12, 11-7)

@ Millikin
NCC
@ Carroll

@ Calvin (22-5, 13-1)
@ Univ of Chicago (10-15, 3-11)
John Carroll (23-5, 16-2) at Wooster
Edgewood (7-18, 7-10) or Wooster (21-6, 13-3)

I realize the article I have linked below has no direct CCIW connection but it does discuss the closing of Cabrini University at the end of this academic year and mentions several other small Liberal Arts schools that have closed or are likely to close in the near future. I know there was talk on this board last Spring (?) of Millikin not refilling certain positions and maybe eliminating others. Scary times for a lot of Higher Ed institutions.

Sad news for sure. We scooped them by breaking the news a few days earlier, but not the kind of news we like to report.

I waste a lot of my time thinking about the future of higher education including the enrollment and financial trends and for what it is worth, Millikin is far better off than Cabrini.
