Hope 73
NCC 65

It wasn't really as close as the final score suggests. Hope scored the first ten points of the game and wasn't threatened in the opening 20 minutes, leading by 18 going into the break thanks to hot shooting and good physical play on defense. The Dutchmen led by as many as 22 in the second half before the Cardinals woke up, using an 18-5 run to help cut the margin to single digits, but they got no closer than within six as Hope was able to hang on.

Tyler Swierczek: 15 pts

Marcus Wourman: 20 pts, 3 stl
Justice Mims: 13 pts
Clayton Dykhouse: 12 pts, 4 reb

The CCIW continues to tread water. Last night it was the downstate pair's turn to split, with Millikin crushing host Rose-Hulman in the RHIT tourney title game, 85-41, while Illinois Wesleyan completed an unsatisfying West Coast trip with an 84-74 loss at Redlands.

Tonight the CCIW split against the MIAA. Elmhurst took down Trine in a battle of undefeateds, 81-74, at Faganel behind an immaculate second half from the field (17-29 for 59%) and the line (15-18 for 83%), plus a healthy 41-25 rebounding bulge. John Ittounas led the way with 26 points, while Jonathan Zapinski double-doubled at 16 and 13, Ocean Johnson contributed 14 and 3 steals, and Quinn Pemberton added 10 points. However, Hope had its way with North Central, 73-65, in the airplane hangar. Tyler Swierczek, who has worked his way into the starting lineup for the Cards, was the primary scorer for the hosts with 15 points, while former MIAA (Albion) star Ken Thomas chipped in 12 and Terrance Moncrief added 11 for NCC.

The league's Wisconsin teams continued the trend by splitting as well. Carroll dumped Lakeland to the tune of 87-66 in Van Male, with Jacob Naber (19), Justin Steinike (18), Aaron Wafford (16), and Eckahelo Simpson (12) all reaching double figures in scoring. However, Carthage took one on the chin, dropping an 81-78 decision to #20 Widener in Fort Lauderdale. Antuan Nesbitt paced the Firebirds with a fine 16 and 10 effort, while Ryan Johnson, who has to be in the lead right now in the CCIW First-Year Player of the Year sweepstakes, had a 15 and 8 night. AJ Williams also scored 15, while Julian Campbell added 11 despite missing his usual fine shooting touch (only 5-12 from the field). Tanner Lamb added 11 off the bench.

Another tough night for Fillip Bulatovic, who shot 0-4 from the field and 4-12 from the line for only four points all told. In his last three games, Bulatovic has gone 3-15 from the field and 4-17 from the charity stripe for a grand total of only ten points. And it's not as though his minutes have diminished; he played 32 minutes at Elmhurst, 22 minutes against IIT last Friday, and 35 minutes tonight, and he's rebounded as well as ever (23 boards in those three games combined).
