With all the people whining about post count and other more important things, coding the Hall of Fame was not and is not top on my list.

Bob, although I'm not 100% sure, I think that Same As Above was giving a thumbnail sketch of how Carthage, Elmhurst, and North Central looked in the Des Plaines Summer League when he mentioned that Martin wasn't going to be a Bluejay next season. I know that someone asked in here a couple of weeks ago how the CCIW teams in that league had fared. Perhaps SAA will clarify his intent in posting those Carthage, Elmhurst, and North Central capsules.

As Bob mentioned, Martin still has a year of eligibility remaining. What I've heard is that he'll be done with his coursework at the end of Elmhurst's fall semester. I haven't heard anything definitive one way or the other as to whether or not he's going to enroll for spring in order to play basketball for the 'jays next season. Enrolling for academically superfluous class time in order to play a sport is an expensive proposition at a CCIW school, and as Joel Kolmodin demonstrated a couple of years ago it's not a course of action that every ballplayer chooses to pursue. It's expensive, and there are usually outside considerations weighing upon the player.

If SAA has some insider information on Martin's 2005-06 intentions, I'm sure he'll share it with the rest of us. As to Martin's participation or lack thereof on Elmhurst's summer team, I wouldn't take it as definitive proof as to whether or not he'll be a Bluejay this winter. Same goes with Mike Wilson at North Central.

Won't the year of junior college still count against his eligibility, per the new non-medical redshirt rules  ??? ???

Not if he didn't play basketball. If you don't practice with the team or play with the team, you do not lose a year of eligibility.

Pat, are there plans to also put out a Basketball Preview for purchase like you are doing with the football season this year?

I was wondering when someone was going to ask.

We pondered that question during the offseason when we put the football plans in motion. We decided that we needed another season to get some more basketball writers in the fold before we attempt to do with 380 men's teams or 800 total basketball teams what we are doing with 231 football teams.

The Kickoff's success means the project will move forward into that next phase. But we didn't have a group of basketball writers (the Around the Region crew in football) we could fall back on for a Tipoff.

Ahhhhhhhhh. So years of eligibility is determined from the first time you participate, not necessarilly from when you enroll. Got it.

Years of eligibility are just that, years in which you participate. This is not Division I, where you have a time clock. You have 10 semesters of full-time enrollment in which to play four years. You could theoretically take those semesters in 1996, 2004, 2015 and 2027 (assuming the rules don't change).

Augie had a running back named Kirk Sanders, who blew out a knee in the first game of 1984, his freshman year.
He came back as a key reserve on the 1985 national championship team, then took off FOUR years. He came back and played in 1990 and, I guess, theoretically, would still have a year of eligibility left.

As always Sager knows more than the rest of us, he filled me in on the Martin situation.  I know he graduated last year and assumed he would move on.  I wish I knew more, but not many people do most likely.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I saw NC, Carthage, and Elmhurst play this summer (didn't get a chance to see Augie), and I simply posted what I saw.  I only talked to a few people at those games and picked up loose ends of conversations, so by no means do I claim to be an expert.

My intent:  somebody asked, I answered........pretty simple

By the way, is there anybody who is certain about Martin or Wilson, because that would make a huge difference for both of their teams?

TBF, you probably know as much as any of the rest of us at this point with regard to Chris Martin. My info about Martin having one more semester of schoolwork and his being undecided about returning to the Elmhurst team next season comes from a well-placed source who told me this back in May, so for all I know it could be outdated info by now.

Incidentally, thanks for giving us the skinny on the CCIW teams that participated in that summer league.

I've been to Barbados, I would LOVE to see the Barbados National Team.  That would be a trip.

Something tells me they're a little laid-back.   8)

If you want to test a really neat feature, click on a posters name.  Sort of the old profile.  You'll get all the info you want on that person.......including how long their logged in.    We'll be watching Cabonney.  ;D

Best feature and one that will be used a lot I suppose is you can send a message to a poster.

Mr. Ypsi

Oh my, I have a stalker!

I admit to sometimes forgetting to logout, and just exit - since I discovered that I therefore don't have to go through logon again (apparently one stays logged-on indefinitely), and since I am lazy, I admit that I sometimes now forget to logout on purpose!  (Pat, is that a problem at your end?)

Sac, the Barbados game isn't until Tuesday - get your lazy butt down to Costa Rica and give us a report!!   ;)
