According to the Carthage website Trey Bowens is Academicly Ineligible for the 2nd semester. Interestingly Bosko played him 38 minutes last Friday against Gustavus. Reserve Freshman guard Bill Shemerdiak is also ineligible.

As for Lawrence traveling as many guys as they do, Coach Tharp talks about his team being a family and he feels that he can't talk that way and than leave kids at home. He actually traveled 22 as 2 players did not suit up due to injuries. It's what he feels is right that's why they travel so many.

Here is the Pantagraph's article on the IWU/NCC game...

The IWU and NCC women play at 5:15.

The men's game will be on the air and on the main WJBC stream.

To an earlier post about Carthage.....

The future is bright?  Let's see if they can go to class and stay awake long enough to pass, especially Bowens, before one starts mentioning the future.

If this is true (Bowens ineligible, again) Let me say this......Where are you know, Kenoshamark?  Oh, you're probably ineligible too.

In response to a bunch of earlier posts..........

Cardinal Fans,

You will not win at IWU tonight.  Yes, you are undefeated.  Yes, you have good, experience players.  You have not been tested by your cupcake schedule.  It will be a rude awakening again (happened last year) for NC, too bad it starts at the Shirk.

NCC is better than you're giving them credit for, but I wouldn't ever pick them to win this game, I just think they may not be the pushover TBF thinks they are.

TBF--   "Where are you know (I'm guessing that should be now)  Kenosha Mark, Oh you're probably ineligible too."  Is NOT the quote that I would expect from a true basketball fan as your title implies.
NC has as good a shot as anybody in the CCIW to play IWU tough and win.  Anybody can beat anybody which makes College Basketball Exciting.  D-1 Marquette (Sis' alma mater) knocked off #2 UCONN and Princeton lost to a D-3 school out east.
While I don't think the game tonight is going to be very close in the end, I do look for North Central to play tough and make some waves in CCIW.

MIHills, when the news on Arnold first broke, I asked that exact same question on this board.  I was politely encouraged for the better of all involved to not ask speculative questions.

Thanks for that info..also thanks to Titan Q for his post right after - issue dead - more curious than anything

The Trey Bowens news is going to have an impact on the league this year.  While Carthage is 3-7, I had been viewing them as a potentially dangerous team.  Not a team that could challenge for the title or even 2nd place, but a team that would have a serious chance to knock off a contender or two in Kenosha.  The Red Men have played a great schedule and played some good teams close.  And Carthage has a ton of talent - Bowens, Jeffery, Hart, and Schlemm can play.  I felt like if things ever started to click that they'd be a dangerous team, especially at home.

While that still may be true, even without Bowens, the fact is that Bowen is their leading scorer (16.1 ppg) and their top assist man (3.3 per game).  He has made the second most 3's on the team (19-52, .365) behind Jeffery.  To take him away from a team that was already struggling to fit the pieces together......just seems like that is going to really hurt the Red Men.

And is there a worse time to lose your point-guard than immediately before a game vs Grinnell???

Checking the Cathage Athletic Department site, I do not see Trey Bowens in the roster list which was last updated Jan 3.  A really tough break for Trey.  A really monumental task for the Redmen when you take a look at their upcoming immediate schedule starting tonight with Grinnell!

Jan. 4   Wed.    Grinnell                       @ Kenosha, Wis.
Jan. 7    Sat.     *Illinois Wesleyan      @ Kenosha, Wis.
Jan. 11  Wed.   *Elmhurst                   @ Elmhurst, Ill.
Jan. 14  Sat.     *Augustana (Ill.)        @ Kenosha, Wis.
Jan. 18  Wed.   *North Central           @ Kenosha, Wis.

The only saving grace is home court advantage with all games but Elmhurst at Kenosha.

For the most important question of the evening:  Which will everyone be doing tonight?--------

----Watching USC vs. Texas on ABC

OR---

----Listining to Q broadcast the IWU vs. NCC game on WJBC?
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Brick

Well it has always been my motto that if you can't go to College go to Carthage!

In response to the dilema between the NCC vs IWU game and the USC vs Texas game the answer is
C all of the above

Just reading about the Wheaton/Redlands game on the Wheaton web site makes me tired.  The amount of action that took place must have been amazing to watch - kinda what ESPN thought they were getting when they televised the Grinnell game last year.

Although Wheaton lost that game, I think it is great that without Standard, they were able to keep it close and attempt a shot at the buzzer to tie.  These young guys are playing tough and gaining a ton of experience.

I can't remember the last time Wheaton had a losing record at this point in the season.  But if you're an under-classman on the team this year, you are having a great time!!
