Don't expect a 7:30 tip-off in Naperville. The refs are extremely late and the scheduled 5:15 tip for the women's game probably won't happen until 6:15 or 6:30. My best guess would be 8:15 tip-off time for the men's game. Don't be alarmed if you don't hear the game until then.

Just spoke to Q.  Titan women won in overtime by 4.  They are also having technical difficulties.  Should be on the air in about ten minutes or so.  About 20 minutes left before tip off.

It looks like the final was 59-48. Augie was led tonight by Harrigan w/ 12 pts and Dain Swetalla w/ 10 pts. A couple of other double figure scorers but I didn't catch the names.

augiefan

Actually only one other double figures scorer for Augie; Drew Wessels with 11 points, 3 assists and 8 steals.

NP actually led at half time 24-23. They were led in scoring by Alexander with 16 pts. and 8 boards, Mathisen with 11 points and quite a few bds. and tennis great Bjorn Berg with 11 points. Augie's victory was not pretty. Congrats to NP for making it tough.

Sloppy game by Augie tonight.  Probably the worst game they've played all year.  You could definitely tell they were not up for this game.  They actually trailed by 1 at the half.  Definitely a letdown after their big week last week, but the important thing is they came away with the W.  Only two more wins to clinch a share of the CCIW championship.  MVP for Augie was Drew Wessels.  He was all over the place on defense tonight.  8 steals and 3 or 4 of those were out top when he just took the ball away from NP's point guard and took it in for the layup.  Oliver Rorer definitely brings some huge energy with him when he comes in the game.  He had 2 monster blocks and a dunk that finally got the crowd into the game.

Augustana 59
North Park 48

Jay Alexander, 16 pts, 7 rebs
Bjorn Berg, 11 pts
Brett Mathisen, 11 pts, 6 rebs

Rick Harrigan, 12 pts
Drew Wessels, 11 pts
Dain Swetalla, 10 pts, 8 rebs

NPU hung tough in this one. They led for almost the entire first half, although never by more than three points, and had a 24-23 advantage during the intermission. Augie took control by going on a 17-6 "run" coming out in the second half -- if you want to call ten minutes' worth of scoring that produces only 23 collective points a "run" -- and held a pair of 12-point leads midway through the half. But NPU never let Augie pull away, getting the lead down to seven points within the final three minutes before FTs by Swetalla and Wessels iced the game.

The game apparently tilted at the FT line, where Augie was 17-25 and NPU was only 6-11. Augie outrebounded NPU, 36-30, and had four fewer turnovers than the Park.

Augie undoubtedly didn't take the Park very seriously, but it's very encouraging as an NPU fan to see the Vikes give the league leader a much better game in their gym than they did the first time around in Chicago when they still had Jason Gordon in uniform. Jay Alexander's performance in this game is particularly impressive, and it looks as though defensive stopper Devin Burnett did a nice job on Harrigan.

Go Elmhurst!

Carthage 76, Wheaton 47

Malik Imani, 20 pts (6-8 treys)
Keena Johnson, 19 pts
Kyle Jeffery, 14 pts
Mark Morrison, 10 pts

Michael Fiddler, 13 pts, 8 rebs
Andy Wiele, 12 pts, 9 rebs

Looks like Wheaton's backcourt forgot to show up for this one. Tony Bollier had only two points and turned the ball over five times in 36 minutes of play, and John Mohan had three points and six turnovers in 24 minutes. Keena Johnson and Malik Imani had huge games against them at the other end of the floor, and Carthage floor general Scott Hood added five assists.

It was relatively close in the first half, with the Red Men only up by six, 33-27, at the half. Wheaton didn't score for the first 6:15 of the second half, however, and the Red Men ran away and hid. Their bulge was as big as 33 points before Bosko Djurickovic finally called off the dogs and brought in the end of the bench.

I am sitting here at the NCC game in fear because Keelan is on fire.  I guess we had it coming though. I am sure he wants to get revenge after choking in the first game.
