Wheaton 91, Millikin 75

Wheaton moves to 6-6 in the CCIW!

The game wasn't too exciting, but Standard is back for the Thunder.  They've done fairly well without him so I wonder...?  Hopefully he'll add to Wheaton's chances on Saturday against Elmhurst.  It is a big game now!

Other than that little fact, Wheaton lead by 10-13 going down the stretch and missed more FTs than normal, slowing the game way down in the last 5 minutes.  But Millikin wasn't on tonight, so really couldn't give Wheaton a run for their money.  Bollier was money from the stripe as usual.

Agnew delivered it, but William Safire wrote it.  Spiro T. Agnew was not much for quick thinking.

Great game in Rock Island tonight.  Very physical by both teams.  I'll start off by saying I thought the intentional foul was a good call.  Schweer did manage to touch the ball when he went up, but his intent clearly wasn't to try to block the shot.  He brought both arms down hard and basically tackled Rorer.  I thought the game was officiated fine.  Both teams got away with some.  Dauksas and Amelianovich got away with some shoveoffs before jumpshots, and Harrigan got some calls on offense.  Both teams had about the same number of fouls, so I don't think officiating was the issue tonight.  I really had a bad feeling with 4 seconds left after Harrigan took a bad fade away jump shot.  I just had a feeling IWU was gonna make a miracle shot.  I thought the key to the game was Brusveen coming in and hitting some huge 3's.  If my memory is correct, I believe he was 4 of 5 from behind the arc.  Also, Dain Swetalla came up big, and knocked down his free throws down the stretch.  Nice win for Augie.  I'm glad they were able to claim the title outright.  It's been a great year for the Vikings in the CCIW: football and basketball champs.

Wheaton COULD finish 8-6.  IF they do, Elmhurst would also finish 8-6, and NCC (home vs. Augie) is certainly a possibility for 8-6.  IWU could also finish 8-6, though home vs. NPU would seem to make that unlikely.

I need to go to bed soon, but anyone want to tackle the tie-breaker possibilities for the conference tourney?

I just wanted to post my congratulations to Augustana for being the sole undisputed 2006 Champions of the CCIW.  Congrats Vikings!
