Does that make it bad, Pat?  ???

No, it's not bad. That's why I'm surprised it received so much attention.

Appleton is Wisconsin's 61st wealthiest city.

Those numbers can be as misleading as veteran's 'impressions'.  Was that mean or median (and income or wealth?) - there can be (and are) HUGE differences.

I've never been to Appleton (and know nothing of their demographics), but if their (presumably) lumber barons built their mansions on what became the main drag, they will appear wealthy (whether or not they are).  Other towns (even if wealthier), who had their 'barons' build in locations that DIDN'T end up being main arteries, will appear less rich.  I confess I jump to the same conclusions, but appearances can be deceiving - I've seen this phenomen often, ESPECIALLY in Wisconsin and Maine, where the elites seem to mainly build on what become the main arteries.

But statistics can be equally misleading (depending upon which one uses, and for what purposes).  If Bill Gates and Warren Buffet moved to Ypsilanti, our median income would barely change.  But I dare say our mean (aka, per capita) income would suddenly jump to the top ten in the country! ;D

So your saying to compare Rock Island to Appleburg (joke with some guys at work) would make Rock Isand look like the **** hole it really is??

Brick

When I say work I must clarify that I had a summer internship in Beloit WI this summer about three hours from Appleburg,  I do know that Green Lake a Ripon (close to Appleburg) are very nice areas!

Cheer, Cheer, the gangs all here and we're all out for Wesleyan!  Night folks, prayers to Augie and more importantly the Titans!

I'm surprised that no CCIW regular has noticed this yet, but in the lead story on the front page, is the following quote:

Utica beat WPI by having the better of what were essentially two starting lineups of five guards.

Two playoff teams broke out the "five guard rotation" in one night... against eachother! Q, you totally should have patented that idea.  :D

Q, what is the radio/audio feed for the game with Lawrence, still WJBC?  Pls. advise.

Yes, Appleton is a nice town.  However, remember that Sen. Joe McCarthy's ghost lingers.  He is still highly regarded by many locals--careful what you say.

As for the clipboard, I'm reminded of a now deceased Carthage professor who was very well liked by his students.  He didn't need notes to teach his classes, but he always carried a manila folder which he would place on the lecturn and open at the beginning of class.  His theory was that students do not appreciate what "being prepared" was unless the prof had "class notes."  His notes were in his head--and he certainly was "prepared."

My boss has no concept of how long it takes to do things.  I generally have some good down-time during th day.

boss'/tachers having no concept of how long it takes to finish projects...seems to be going around a bit

My boss has no clue what it is that I do.  He just keeps saying keep up the good work.  He looks like an umpa lumpa.

i had been away since North Central's exit last week...but all this talk about bosses and teachers not knowing how long it takes to do projects is great. I agree. at a job i held during the summertime while i was in college, i would work MAYBE 2 hours total during the day.....my boss wasn't computer literate, so he figured things i had to do for him would take WEEKS when they actually only took a few hours. i kept a running talley of my solitaire scores and also started to formulate a theory about how the hearts game on computers cheats.

Carry a clipboard everywhere and look around a lot.

This works.....it really does. ;D  It also helps if you look like you need something, people usually stay away then.

Man, I sure hope none of your bosses are d3hoops.com fans! ;D

Well, I'm heading off to my job where I really have to work (my punishment for not going to college) so this will probably be my last chance to post before the games start tonight. Just want to say best of luck to the CCIW reps tonight and maybe even hope for a miracle recovery for Drew Wessels--he deserves a chance to play in the tournament.

Does that mean they hate commies in Appleton...sounds like my kinda town :D.

Okay, let me clarify...I don't hate commies...just what they believe in :).

WJBC is under contractual commitment with Illinois State to cover the ISU women in the Missouri Valley tournament tonight.  The Titans will be on Radio Bloomington sister station 93.7 FM (which just switched formats from classic rock to oldies, I might add), with audio stream here...

April, I'm just happy to know that anytime someone mentions playing 5 guards, they tend to think of ole Titan Q.

Greek Tragedy

We know about the WIAC, a league that has produced eight national champions, including the last two by UW-Stevens Point. Together, the CCIW and WIAC have won 14, or 45 percent, of the NCAA titles contested since the tournament began in 1975.

That's what jumped out at me in that Appleton Post Cresent Article.  Wow.

Yeah, time heals all wounds, and most rivalries.  There was a time when I would have past Joe Hakes lying dead on the street and spat on him.   Now, I can actually be cordial and even rooted for his team in the tournament.  Hopefully no one from the CCC board is reading this and now knows where I went to school.

Anyway, cool story about ESPN at IWU.  I like how d3 is getting a lot more recognition nationally over the past couple of years.  Any word on if they might want to broadcast the national final on one of their many networks?  Frankly it would be more exciting than the stupid d2 championship game which gets to be on CBS every year.

I was out for a couple of days and in catching up with the board, I find this vicious attack on my character, so I figure that someone will come to my defense quickly.  Five pages later, I still can find no one saying, "How could anyone be so mean to Joe Hakes?"   ???

Hoopsfan, this does not actually identify you with a particular school, only the Commonwealth Coast Conference, which your description of me could be true at any of the member schools, including Gordon.  Actually, there are a few other schools in New England that could be included here...... but I digress!!!

At least you had the dignity to wait until I was dead to spit on me.  Thanks.   :-\

So calling people commies at the game would be especially harsh this weekend?

So basically, they just kept playing the same music and the audience got older?  Isn't that how it works?
Man, I can't tell you all how old I felt the first time I heard Nirvana on Classic Rock!

Unfortunately too many people understand.  Just kidding Joe.  I really am glad to see your program helping the rep of the CCC; maybe you can bring my alma mater along eventually.
