Just reread my last post. I do know the difference between "cite" and "site" and even "sight." But when posting at midnight, a quick shot of Red Bull would have been appropriate. In my day job writing up Tax Court cases, I think "cite." That's my second excuse. Mediocre runners and mediocre writers like me always have a plethora of excuses ready to be used in a heartbeat.

IWU fans, purchase some of the excellent photos of the Final 4 in the "Photo Gallery" and show Pat how much you appreciate all he and his tireless staff do to make D3 basketball season so much better.  There is no better combination than IWU basketball and D3 Hoops.

Another year there and you're going to be blowing air kisses, living on a steady diet of fish tacos, duck pizza, and Pellegrino, and using "killer" as your favorite adjective.  ;)

blowing air kisses? naa, I don't want my fans to recognize me  ::)
fish tacos? mmmmmm, yummy!
duck pizza? huh? what's that?
killer as an essential adjective? highly improbable!!

Greg, just an FYI I don't live anywhere near Hollywood... I'm like 1.5 hours away from LA. (in my head that's merely most of the way from Wheaton to Bloomington or Whitewater which is why I ended up at so many SCIAC games this year). Culturewise, I live in Southern California Wine country. There are 12+ wineries on the way from work to my house (which is a 14 mile drive). There are also apparently above average golf courses, and orchards and horse farms. Jokes to make fun of those would be more appropriate than the Hollywood ones.... such as the irony of a "community covenant" Wheatie moving to wine country. :D

I, on the other hand, actually live in Los Angeles, and I must say that the fish tacos, "killer" stereotype sounds like something picked up from movies rather than reality.  And it's nothing like what you would encounter in Hollywood.  People who expect to find "Hollywood" when they visit Hollywood are easy to spot by the shocked expressions on their faces.  Word of advice: if anyone blows a kiss at you anywhere on Hollywood Blvd., duck and run the other direction.  ;)

Mr. Ypsi

I've only visited LA twice (and the latest time was 30 years ago), but I'd have to agree with David.  The stereotype that (at least then) seemed true was that LA is indeed several hundred suburbs in search of a city.  The other one that MAY be true is that 'Hollywood' is actually Malibu.

Bear in mind that these are both short-time, 30-year-old impressions. ;D

your rumors about trost leaving IWU is extremely unreliable - posting source of information makes it more credible and worth....plus, there is NO WAY they will leave the CCIW conference

i too have seen Sean Dwyer play and his is the toughest pure point guard i have seen and would be a perfect fit for any D3 program especially in the CCIW because they play hard. Whatever school he chooses, that school will benefit from not only his play but his ability to pull in those that do not want to buy into a program....i would say that he is better than alot of the D1 guard recuits at his size

Well I've been to Los Angeles a half dozen times and enjoyed every visit - even the traffic.  I was there in 2003 on business (the reason I missed the 25th NPC reunion game) in February.  One year I spent Christmas in Laguna Niguel.  On Christmas Eve Day it was 87 degrees and we went to the beach.  San Juan Capistrano, Crystal Cathedral, Disneyland, Universal Studios, the incredibly beautiful Union Pacific train station, the nearby Ontiveras Street Mexican market, the Los Angeles Mission, the County Building of Dragnet fame.

I've even spent some time in the seedier parts of LA (during the day of course).  It is a great city.

I believe you mean Olvera Street.  Totally.  ;)

On one of my trips to visit relatives in and around LA, I was part of a group that contained two or three vocal opponents of "Mexican invasion."  After some time I observed that "At least the place names won't have to be changed."

I don't know if I made a point.

[Since I have little hope of being able to gloat by summertime, pardon me! ;D]

How 'bout them undefeated, first-place Tigers!

Final tonite: 7-0; they move to 5-0, which puts them 4 games up on the defending champion Sox after only 5 games!

(The Pussycats haven't had a winning record in 12 [13?] years, so humor me.  It seems they may FINALLY be moving in the right direction, and actually play meaningful games in August, maybe even September.  I suspect they will be doing good to hit .500, but can you fault me for having flashbacks to an out-of-the-blue 1984 [for those not familiar with the reference, in 1984 they started 35-5, and coasted to a World Series title].  Perhaps weirdest of all in this post-steroid age, they SHATTERED the beginning-of-season home run record [after 3 games, they had 15 - previous record 9; haven't seen the record for 5 games, but I suspect they still have it].)

Woo, woo, pussycats! :o

(Later in the season I suspect I will pay heavily for this post, but enjoy life while you can! ;))

David Collinge

It's a little early for gloating, but not too early to point out that the Motor City Kitties' 5-0 record has come at the expense of Texas and Kansas City, who between them could lose 200 games this year (KC's recent performance against the White Sox notwithstanding.)

joehakes

Note that Ypsi is predicting an undefeated season for the Tigers.   :o

At least, that's what folks will say in a couple of months.  ;D

David,

Quit raining on my parade!  I said I was gloating now because I would almost certainly not get an opportunity later! ;)

Joe,

Thank you!  To add to the predictions I didn't actually make (but will be accused of later), Chris Shelton is on pace to bat .700, with a slugging percentage of 1.500, and hitting 162 home runs! ;D

Correction (updated through tonite) - Shelton will hit .700, with 162 HRs, but his slugging percentage will be 1.750 - nearly doubling the previous record (and he will also shatter the all-time record for triples, with 97)!  Short-term stats can be SO much fun! ::)

[For those who have never heard of him, I hadn't either!  Chris Shelton is a journeyman first-baseman the Tigers acquired this off-season.]

Pat Coleman

Chris Shelton has been a Tiger his entire major league career. Got 388 at-bats for Detroit last season, hit .299.
