Keep in mind that I saw the terrific Stevens Point teams of the past 3 years......they were good...IWU had more talent this year.

I won't argue with that.  Everyone knows I'm a huge Pointer fan and it's obvious that talent doesn't always win championships or guarantee great seasons.  Point had TWO great players in Jason Kalsow and Nick Bennett.  Down at the Marquette scrimmage, an NBA scout was there checking out Travis Diener and his comment about Bennett was something like, "[Nick] has got to be one of the least athletic players I've ever seen."  But, he was a great shooter.  Kalsow was hardly athletic or spectacular himself, but he was very good at everything he did (scoring, rebounding, assists).

To say that Point didn't have a very talented team isn't too far fetched.  They had good players that played great as a team.  Bennett and Kalsow were the only ones to get All-Conference (first team or honorable mention) in 2003-2004.  In their second championship season, only Eric Maus was selected to all-conference honorable mention, in addition to Bennett and Kalsow.  So, they had two great players and a bunch of very good role players.

I think Larry U is like that too.  Chris Braier was the face of the Vikings, as was Kyle MacGillis, other than that, everyone else were great role players.  Not sure how Kevan Bradley got HM, but that's neither here or there.

According to the commonality down at the Nickel. LU needs to get with the program and charge $2 or $3 a head for admission. Then they'd be able to build a new gym. Hmmmmmm $3 a head would bring in roughly $45,000 a year, in years they host the conference tournament. So sure, why not.

Or just charge $10 for each sectional game.  :D ;D

Nothing like a brand new $45,000 arena to attract recruits.  :D  ;D  :D

Wow, sure hope they spend more than $45,000 on a new arena!  I think that might be about how much my dad spent on his flute!  ::)

Didn't Dennis play the patriarch of a large Chinese family in that one?

Wasn't that Charley Chin, the famous Chinese detective?

Well, maybe.... but I hope you're not also suggesting that IWU was the better team as well. When Jason Kalsow and Nich Bennett left and Coach Bennett retired I literally mourned the loss of what will probably be the best team in basketball for a long, long time.

Any family with Prikkel in it would be a large family, no matter what the denomination.

I have no idea who the next IWU coach will be.
But if it's Raridon, does anybody know when the last time a men's basketball coach went directly from one CCIW school to another?
And I'm not counting Bosko because there was some time between his leaving North Park and being hired at Carthage.

April, I didn't take that comment to mean IWU was a better team.  I interpreted it to mean IWU had better individual talent to a man, but Point was so superior at playing as a team.  I think that was the point earlier about if IWU hired Tharp.  Somebody made a comment about Tharp would have won a national championship or 2 if he had IWU's individual talent because he got his teams at LU to play so well together as a team, so imagine what he could do if his players were even more individually talented.  I'm not espousing one viewpoint or the other, I'm just throwing in my two cents as to the meanings of others comments.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Todd Raridon's son Mitchell is a freshman at North Central and a member of the basketball team.  If Raridon gets the IWU job and Mitchell wants to transfer to IWU to play for his dad, would Mitchell have to sit out a year per CCIW rules?  Has there ever been an exception made to that rule?  It would seem this would be a very unique situation that might call for one.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking that's what he really meant, but since the possibility was out there, I just wanted some clarification. This is the CCIW board, after all, and we are known for our anal retentiveness. ::) ;D :-* 8)

And I think you're right about Tharp too, incidentally.

I take it that you meant head men's basketball coach. Only three men have helmed the men's basketball program at two different CCIW schools:

* Bosko Djurickovic (North Park, 1984-85 thru 1993-94; Carthage, 1996-97 to date)
* Scott Trost (Elmhurst, 1992-93 thru 1995-96; Illinois Wesleyan, 2001-02 thru 2005-06),
* Rees Johnson (Carroll, 1976-77 thru 1977-78; North Park, 1998-99 thru 2003-04).

To answer the question that I think you're asking, then, nobody has ever gone directly from being the head men's basketball coach at one CCIW school to being the head men's basketball coach at another CCIW school.

Article III, Section 1 of the CCIW Bylaws states, "A transfer who participated in a sport at another Conference school shall be eligible in that sport only after one calendar year from the student's withdrawal date from the previous Conference institution."

There are no provisions within the CCIW Bylaws for exceptions to this rule. The fact that Mitchell Raridon is the son of a CCIW coach should not make any difference, nor do I think it will.

I think it would be great Board fodder if he stayed.  Although (and I haven't seen him play, so don't take this too seriously), but what if he gets cut by the new coach?  Can he transfer then?

The rule says "participated in another sport". If a player gets cut before the season starts, then he won't be participating in that sport.

Right, but then his participation still counts by the letter of the rule, because its done by the withdrawal date.  Theoretically, a player could play the fall semester games his freshman year at Millikin, not play another game for a year and a half, transfer to IWU after two years and still have to sit out a year before he can play again.  Am I reading that wrong?
