How do I get mixed up in IWU's search for a coach?

Q's various points are well taken.  Let the process work itself out and let IWU find the coach that they want.  Q's list of qualifications is great and I have no doubt that Dennie Bridges will hire a strong and competent coach.  It will happen when it happens.

OS - I'm not going to grill you.  I tend to burn and char anything I put on the grill.

My take on Raridon and Tharp is two quality coaches who I have respect for approached an opportunity, interviewed, discussed with family, close advisors & current employers, evaluated all factors and made a personal decision to withdraw their names from consideration.  It is the professional and right thing to do without burning bridges that support you.

I am glad Tharp is staying.

I think his squad will be very tough for years to come. His returning sophomores are already battle tested and ready to assume strong leadership positions.  The upperclassmen are excellent as well.

He is likely underpaid, that will need to be fixed or he will be elsewhere, in or out of basketball.

Things will be good here and I hope that LU would set a goal to have their job be called  "the best D3 job in the country".

Have a great weekend.

LOL, I thought the same thing...  Just 'cause you don't take/aren't offered the job, it doesn't mean you need to burn the AD at the stake!

So I guess that Baines and Rose each have a 50/50 chance now......Or do they really?  I think Dennie is still looking......

Is April still in the running or has she "withdrawn" her name as well?

:P

Ironically, I just got a surprise raise on tuesday in our organization's board meeting. I'm not even kidding, I really did! I think this means I have to stay!  :D :D :D

I bet Gillespie is out on a three day bender after hearing that Tharp is back for 2006/07.

You mean you got a raise without even playing the 'possible IWU coach' card?!  Congratulations!! ;D

Cynicism test:

A. Raridon and/or Tharp applied for the IWU job to wangle a raise from their currnet emplyoers.

B. Raridon and/or Tharp were sincere, but had second thoughts about disrupting their families.

C. Raridon and/or Tharp are still candidates, but are pitting IWU vs. their current employers against each other.

D. Raridon and/or Tharp were sincere, but took the face-saving way out when Bridges told them it was between Rose and Baines (or other).

[Answer: who the hell knows!  If you chose either A or C, you are even more cynical then I, but so far, those are also possible choices!]

I think it might be a combo of A/B.  I do not blame anyone if it is A.  You are only worth what someone is willing to pay you and sometimes you have to leave to get fair market value.  If it takes a sincere threat to leave to get fair market value, then so be it.

All I know is that I am glad that Tharp is staying at LU.

Based on the pay package and the lack of flexability w/ assistant coaches, as well as the sense that you would be the outsider in the good ole boys IWU athletic network who would be able to pull the trigger on that job ?  Not a seasoned vet with a family and alot of coaching ability.

My guess is Raridon and Tharp were thrilled to jump at the opportunity and less than thrilled once they were presented the actual opportunity.  They backed out based on the set up of the job.

Or,
E.  Bridges came after Raridon and Tharp, but after listening to what IWU has to offer out of respect, they both decided to stay put.
Afterall, it is possible Dennie called Tharp and Raridon and both wanted to listen to the legend out of respect.

This is what I said...

When this all began, I think some of the IWU faithful, or possibly others, were a bit full of themselves and were looking through those green tinted glasses of theirs.

I don't mean any disrespect to Bridges, Trost, the IWU program, it's fans or even fellow CCIW fans, but some of the posters here sounded pretty arrogant regarding the IWU coaching job (like it was THEE job to have on the D3 level).

I'll admit I'm not smart enough to KNOW exactly who is a IWU poster or not and the last thing I want to do is accuse said posters of being an IWU fan or not.  Anyway, that's why I lumped everyone (for the most part, and probably unfairly) together.

Maybe if I have time, I'll run though the 6 billion pages of posts since the news that Trost was thinking about leaving and dig some quotes up!  :D

Does anybody know anything about Elias Washington from Grayslake or Joe Capalbo from Crystal Lake Central?

I saw that Washington is headed to Illinois Wesleyan and Capalbo is headed to North Park.

Gregory Sager

I can't tell you much about Capalbo other than what's mentioned in his writeup on www.chicagohoops.com. I did get a chance to meet him at a game this past season when he was in for a recruiting visit, and I know that the NPU coaching staff was very high on him. One thing that the chicagohoops.com piece didn't mention was that he missed part of his senior season due to illness.

I see as well that North Central has landed Hinsdale Central's Pat Morris.

OS,

The only thing I'll say, and I know this has been said before, is all the speculation and "arrogance" around the IWU job has been made by posters of other schools.

Actually, the lion's share of both have come from Augiedad -- who by his own admission isn't really one of the "posters of other schools".
