Greek Tragedy

I'm with Point Special here.

The only reason Bill Walton is entertaining because he comes up with those "John Madden Idiot Quotes,"..."If you score more points than your opponents, you have a good chance to win."  Walton talks like a moron and that's entertaining because you ask yourself, "Did he really just say that?"  Walton must have a PhD from the John Madden School of Announcing.

The "problem" with Dennis Miller was that he was too smart for some that watched MNF.  The guy really is a genius and when he references the Allegory of the Cave, the Self Fulfilling Prophecy, and obscure historical army generals, to name a few, it makes you wonder why he's announcing football games.  I enjoyed listening to him a lot more (even though I didn't have a clue what he was talking about at times) than to listen to Madden or Walton "dumb things down" for the viewers.

You don't think Bill Walton is intentionally saying many of those "idiot" quotes to get all this attention?  He's not a dumb guy; I think most of it is very calculated.  Honestly, I do laugh when he says stuff like "the team that scores the more points, wins the game," but I also enjoy the fact that he knows he's Bill Walton and has no problems calling players, coaches and teams out while broadcasting their games.  None of that politically correct crap.

Maybe that's why I liked Dennis Miller so much, very few people got the jokes.  It's like he was catering to the CCIW Chat clientele.  Well, that and Dan Fouts' laugh was hilarious and he laughed at just about everything that came out of Miller's mouth (and his own, for that matter).  It was just my favorite year of MNF ever; too bad I was the only one who thought so.

I enjoyed Dennis Miller on MNF as well.  However, it was really apparent he didn't fit in.  It was like John Houseman trying to cover the Ultimate Fighting Championship.  "Looked like he kneed that guy in the face the old fashioned way, he earned it."

Dennis Miller was an Amherst grad!  A little DIII trevia.

How did you guys go a whole night with only one post?  That never happens.  I guess there are more closet OC fans on here than I ever would have expected.

It seems to be a rather slow period of discussion, so I thought I'd throw this tidbit of info up that I ran across.  A little while back there was a discussion as to the religious affiliations of CCIW and other institutions.  I was looking into some grad. school programs and checking out info on US News and World Report.  For the heck of it I was looking up IWU and noticed that according to US News, it shows IWU as having no religious affiliation.  Now, I don't know the criteria required to be considered an "affiliation," but I thought that was an interesting fact for cocktail parties.  The school does not get any money from the Methodist church anymore, but I thought there was still some loose ties with scholarships, etc.  Thought I'd throw that out for discussion.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Dennis, you clever rascal, you caught my spelling error. Let me try to save face by saying "desreved" is our preferred serving suggestion of Crow in Nebraska. It's a special way of cooking it involving corn and red beer. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Impressive list.  For those of you closer to it, what's the deal with Carthage?  They must certainly have recruited some talent.

Bosko usually brings in a ton of guys and I'm sure he will this year as well (and maybe already has). I just haven't seen any published or rumored anywhere.
