To get esoteric puns, or disinformation?  (The poem is actually Oxymandias.)

Shhhh Ypsi, that whole point of having an atmosphere of intellectual superiority is that lurkers will have to look up all of these references in wikipedia, perhaps in multiple different ways to even understand what we're talking about.  You can't just explain them blatantly like that; it's against everything the CCIW Chat is all about.

I believe the young Mr. Oziminski has some Polish heritage (judging from his last name).  In Polish, ozimina means winter crops.  Zima is Polish for winter.  So he may come up strong as the winter progresses and be ready for a spring harvest.

BTW, I believe the poem Mr. Sager was referring to is Ozymandias (no x).  At least, that was said To a Slylark.  But have no Remorse, whatever the answer to The Question.  Because there is Music, when Soft Voices die.  Before this post becomes an Ode to the West Wind, perhaps we should go to the Lines ----

OZYMANDIAS of EGYPT

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said:—Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Crescat scientia; vita excolatur.
Even a blind man knows when the sun is shining.

Here's an interesting quote from Pleasant Grove (AL) HS football coach Jim Elgin in a story on Birmingham-Southern's move to D3.

http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/sports/1148721478153180.xml&coll=2

Elgin said some of the Division III football powers, such as Augustana and Mount Union, are schools with 17,000 to 18,000 students. "It doesn't cost that much to go to those schools, either," he said.

Think maybe Coach Elgin needs to do some research?

What was that about "liberal farts", Joe?

We've got a lot of those and that on CCIW chat.

just try finding a chestnut tree these days.

I could show you many spreading chestnut trees in NJ, including a couple in Jersey City, well they were still here a couple of years ago.

Yeah, but so does the writer, who should not take an Alabama HS coach's word on student enrollments in Ohio and Illinois.

Maybe this HS coach actually meant to say that when you go against Mt. Union, it seems as if they have "17,000 to 18,000" players:P

My favorite post about Greg ever, from the SCIAC board:

That was one of my all-time favorite Posting Up sendups. I look upon it as an honor to have been on the receiving end of such an outstanding parody. I don't do applauses and smites, but I seriously considered making an exception to give ol' dj_hypen a K+ for that one.

The fact that Chuck gave away the reference for the cheap-seaters didn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that he stepped on my punchline. Leave my jokes alone, Chuck. This is already a tough room for trying out new material. Don't make it worse. Oh, and don't forget to tip the waitress.  ;)

Joe, you must've had something to do with the fact that North Park printed that on my diploma.

I sleep well at night knowing that, whenever I don't have immediate access to a computer, someone like Martin can step in and supply the weird arcane facts upon which CCIW Chat thrives. It makes me feel as though the room is in good hands.

Dan, I think that you and some of the other Augie fans should drop the good folks at the Birmingham News a note or two. Seriously. What better way to let the local paper of D3's newest member know that the eyes of D3 Nation are upon them? Perhaps they'll be a little more likely to cover BSC well in the future, to say nothing of ... oh, I don't know ... actually fact-checking their published quotes, as Pat suggests.

Always nice to have a d3football.com celeb in the house! (JDean, you have my condolences on the lameness of the OAC hoops board; that conference deserves a much livelier basketball forum than the one it has.)

It's April, not Alice, but if you ask her I'm sure that she'll admit that in posting here she often feels as though she's fallen down a rabbit hole.  :D
