So can we get the whole list of 29 father-son combos yet?

If I have waded through the previous "test papers" accurately, my count shows we are now at 27 with the addition of Tony Armas Jr., Robinson Cano, and Adam LaRoche.

My list did not contain Preston Wilson, but it now shall include him because step-sons certainly should qualify.

The two attempts at the bonus were off target.  It is not a Bell or a Boone.

As for the concern of adding material to test items, even more difficult information, I'll simply stay with the instructions.  If a competitor in a spelling bee was asked to speel "cat," I don't think the more difficult "jaguar" would be an acceptable response.

Lawyers continually counsel their clients to stick with the short, specific answer.  Don't try to give too much.

Bonus -- Only one of the present fathers started his major league career in the 1950s.  Which one?

Unless I missed it, I don't believe anyone mentioned Jerry Hairston Jr. of the Texas Rangers.

We'll put Preston Wilson up top of the list, the follow with the 29 believed to be a complete cast of players following in Dad's footsteps as MLB characters.

Sandy Alomar Jr, Moises Alou, Tony Armas Jr, Brian Bannister, Josh Barfield, David Bell, Barry Bonds, Aaron Boone, Robinson Cano, Bobby Crosby, Jose Cruz Jr, Jeff DaVanon, Chris Duncan, Brandon Fahey, Prince Fielder, Ken Griffey Jr, Jason Grilli, Jerry Hairston Jr, Jason Kendall, Adam LaRoche, Gary Mathews Jr, Lance Niekro, Darren Oliver, Eduardo Perez, Justin Speier, Scott Spiezio, Nick Swisher, Daryle Ward, Jeret Wright.

Hope yesterday was a happy one for you fathas.

Hopefully this doesn't violate the no politics mantra here, but this is reminicent of the 2000 Presidential election where George W Bush was called "junior" a lot when he really isn't and Al Gore never was, when he really is.

But Al Gore isn't a "junior."  He ceased being Albert Gore, Jr. when his father died in 1998.  In fact, while Albert Gore was alive, his was generally known as "Albert Gore, Jr."  Since then, he's been correctly identified as "Al Gore."

Funny that the ESPN crawl eternally running beneath the World Cup telecast identifies today's starting pitcher for the Nats as "Armas Jr."  And I thought ESPN could do no wrong... ::)

Always said that ESPN has their act together.

The official Social Security Death Index is full of people referred even in death and even after their father died as "Jr."

It may not agree with the 'holy of holy' stylebook of Emily Post etiquette or some moth-eaten newspaper stylebook, but it is the accepted way that people are often referred to, especially when they share the same first/last name of a semi-famous, famous, or precious father.

John D. Rockfeller Jr. was referred to as junior long after his patriarch father died as was Franklin Roosevelt Jr. and Theodore Roosevelt Jr.   :P

I think this is a lot of smoke (on a slow day) up someone's ample Bobby Dernier (and yes that was Joe volunteering himself and me for that distink honor).   ;D

This is the kind of insight I expect to see at the CCIW board.  I am going to trim my toenails now.  It will be an exciting change from this.   ::)

Some very exciting news for two former CCIW basketball players. Adam Dauksas and Keelan Amelianovich have both been offered contracts by the same franchise in Spain, Sedesa Lliria (in the city Lliria, near Valencia).

http://www.sedesa.es/fundacion/basket/index.html

http://www.eurobasket.com/team.asp?Cntry=ESP&Team=404

Each team in the LEB2 (the league) can only have two Americans, and in listening to Adam talk tonight about how this came about, it really sounds like a freak thing that two players from the same school in the U.S. are going to be on the same European team.  Adam is expected to play point and be a "floor general" type -- a true distributor.  Keelan will play the 2 and is expected to be a perimeter shooter of course.

If basketball did not work out, Keelan had a job offer from Ernst & Young in Chicago waiting for him and Adam was going to start law school at Valparaiso.  I think this is a once in a lifetime opportunity though and I applaud them for going for it.

These two have worked as hard as any two IWU basketball players I've ever been around.  I'm very proud of them of wish them the best.

Mr. Ypsi

Q, that's great!  Either of them speak Spanish?

Any news on the plans for the Jones twins, Steve Schwerer, etc.?

Chris and Cory Jones and Jason Fisher, all Risk Management majors at IWU, are employed full-time by State Farm here in Bloomington.

Last I heard about Steve Schweer, he had plans to go to Miami...not sure for what.  Maybe to get help with his FT shooting from Shaq.

Matt Arnold is going to law school I think.

Mike McGraw is getting into the family business, McGraw Enterprises.  They own 8 McDonald's and several hotels.

Mr. Ypsi

I take it Steve was not noted for his FT shooting (I hadn't known that before), but surely it wasn't THAT bad!  My experience is that the average 8th grader shoots FTs better than Shaq! ;D

And just to rile Pat with a Piston's reference, better than Ben Wallace, too!)

Steve was 8-32 (.250) last season.

OMG, I guess either Shaq or Ben COULD give him lessons, though I suspect he could find betters mentors! ;D

Emeritus prof, when I saw your question I went to my 1990 edition of the Baseball Encyclopedia and found the 5 that I listed.  I quit at 5.  You have omitted these four pairs.  Thus 29 seems to be only a partial number.

Was the "29" figure from SABR or some other official baseball news service?

Here are four more pairs:

Angel (Bing) Aragon and Jack Aragon
Dolf Camilli and Doug Camilli
Herm Doscher and Jack Doscher
Jim Eschen and Larry Eschen

there was an article in this morning's paper about David Segui, a 15-year major leaguer, now retired admitting the use of HGH.  Wasn't his father Diego Segui?

I believe you are correct.

Greg mentioned Jerry Hairston Jr. a couple of pages back.
