Sounds like a great place, Greg.  Good for North Park.  I will let you know when I'm in the area and we can hook up for that tour.

Incidentally, they are very strict about enforcing the "npu students and staff only" rule at 'The Wik'. I forgot my staff ID and had to use a business card and was chastised sternly for my error, and everyone knows who I am! Woah be the employee who wanders in aimlessly.

8 hours later and your still complaining about that Rob?

Gregory Sager

Dennis named most of the former Vikings who were in attendance, although he forgot Roger Clausen (a reserve forward during the threepeat era, IIRC), and Marc Horner and Jeff Pearson (both 1989-92). Jeff's father Pete Pearson, long-time biology professor at NPU, is another former North Park basketball player (circa mid-'60s, the Royner Greene era) who was in attendance. Also, Marc's and Jeff's classmate is named Scott Stenmark, not Pete.

Does anyone know if any CCIW teams are coming down to TX this winter for the Trinity/Southwest tourney?  I did a quick search but couldn't find the lineup for this year.  I know I could look through each team individually, but I thought I'd take the lazy route.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Yes, I am still complaining tj, but I'll tell you this, the Wik ROCKS...great place to work out...

Nice post Dennis...

Does this mean you'll be giving back NPC's National Championships as well?  :o

At the 3 on 3 tourney, as Greg said, Matt Dyment S'2003 won the 3-Point Contest, sinking 16 baskets in 45 seconds.  I wonder how many CCIW trey recordholder, Rick Alspach, hit and whether he finished second.

Team Erickson is currently taking applications for next year's 3 on 3 competition.  The leader, ME, once scored 10 points in an intramural contest.  Perhaps Berki, Monegain, and Mulkerin can fill some holes.

The Carthage Basketball Roster is now up on the website:

http://www.carthage.edu/athletics/index.cfm?page=19

I would say this is an abbreviated version of the roster as there is info missing on a number of players and not all of the newcomers are listed with their profiles either.

Four members of last years team are no longer on the roster - Malik Imani, Casanova Brown, Chris Lee and Mike Hart.   Hart had left the team mid-year but was listed back on the website over the summer.  Sorry to see Chris Lee not on the roster, thought he had shown some signs last year to be a very fine player (long and athletic with a nice shot).

One addition back to the roster is Brian Schlemm.  Schlemm started out two years ago with quite the reputation but never was able to put his game together.  Maybe knowing this is his last shot at playing will bring out the best.

"Perhaps you should show up for Midnight Madness and attempt to guess how many games the Vikings will win this season by assessing their various shoe sizes." - GS

:o :o :o

Oooh – I forgot, I'm dyslexic!  All those embarrassing losses the past two years were really glorious wins – and if I had those special blue and gold tinted glasses – I would realize that the nearly empty gym for home games are just hundreds of people who have come cleverly disguised as empty seats.

1. So "all those embarrassing losses the past two years" automatically mean that this year's team is gonna stink? In that case, why bother playing the games at all? NPU should just save everyone the trouble by bowing to the inevitable and announcing right now that the Vikings are gonna give up 25 forfeits. That way the school will save money on new uniforms and the monthly ComEd bill for the gym lights.

2. That was a nice try at dodging the fact that you were called out for your preposterous "I didn't see any tall guys at the banquet, so NPU is gonna stink this year" assertion. But you don't get a mulligan for that one, Dennis. In that previous post you said that the Vikings were doomed because they didn't have any tall guys, not because they had stunk the past two years. You were wrong about the height thing, and, yeah, because of that I'm gonna point at you and laugh and do my little Happy Dance.  ;D

3. NPU's home attendance isn't anywhere near what it ought to be -- and nobody has pointed that out and complained about it on CCIW Chat more than yours truly -- but saying that the Vikings play in a "nearly empty gym" is a big exaggeration.

4. You're not dyslexic, Dennis. You're Eeyore. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eeyore

5. There is no #5. I just didn't want the thumb to feel left out.

I don't think that Rick participated in it.

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on September 20, 2006, 12:24:14 PMIt was truly nice to see Ruth Douglass and her children at the dedication of the McCarrell/Djurickovic courts last Saturday.  Ruth and her late husband Bernie, owners of Warner Candy Company on Lawrence Avenue (a couple of miles from campus),

The Douglass family sold Warner Candy Co. three years ago, and the office and factory on Lawrence Avenue (which was actually less than a mile from campus, at the corner of Lawrence and Sacramento) was torn down and replaced by condos two years ago. The company is now based in Elk Grove Village.

You forgot the biggest non-returnee of all, K-Mark: Kyle Jeffery. But, yeah, I didn't see the kid from Marquette listed on the roster, so I suspect you're right about this being an abbreviated preliminary version of it.

I know that Bosko really likes the 6'4 juco forward that Carthage picked up, Milos Vukosavljevic. Yet another Serbian whose last name looks like something you'd see on a Scrabble rack.  :D At least we've got two years to learn how to spell it without looking it up.

With that lineup, Rob Berki would find himself fulfilling his lifelong ambition to play point guard.

Greg,  You are correct, Jeffrey is the most significant non-returner but since that was announced a few months back I've moved on from that fact.  Still like to envision what it would have been like to see Mike Hart in the middle with Schlemm and Jeffrey flanking him.   That would have been one of the more imposing frontcourts around.  Throw in Bowens and a point guard and all of a sudden Carthage is in the mix for a league title....oh well.

Speaking of point guards, the player from Marquette is listed and his name is Joe Higgins.  Joe played his basketball here in Kenosha at St. Joseph's H.S.   Joe is the consumate point guard and will be fun to watch for the next four years.  He had been recruited hard by Carthage coming out of high school but ended up going to Marquette for a year but didn't play basketball.  I think he had the itch to get back on the court and Carthage will be blessed to have him guiding the team.   Joe was a top 50 player in the state as a senior and played on some very strong teams at St. Joseph who made serious runs at state titles.  He isn't going to be a huge scorer but he handles the ball extremely well and has a knack for breaking down the defender and penetrating the lane.

Time will tell on the rest of the incoming class but on paper it doesn't appear that it will make anyone forget the class of McDaniel, Garnes and Fabian !!!
