With that lineup, Rob Berki would find himself fulfilling his lifelong ambition to play point guard.

A few months ago I was playing in a game at the Libertyville Park District and we had a few people not show up, I played at the top of the zone defense and ran the point during the second half. The only phrase to describe it is "a thing of beauty is joy forever".

While this must be the pre-season "getting into jousting shape" with Prikkel and Sager, I must remind them that Division III rules state that you cannot start athletically related activities in basketball before October 15.

I am bound to report a violation to the NCAA if they continue.

When the actual, for-real, and take-no-prisoners jousts begin, perhaps Greg and Dennis could arrange for some of the "contests" -- if that's what they truly are -- to be held in a public venue, say, the NPU gym. Or perhaps they could perform as top-billing on the Oprah show.

Whaddaya think?

I just noticed that Wheaton has had a "slight" schedule change for December.  Wheaton has cancelled their game with IIT and will instead visit Walsh-Ryan Arena for a game against Northwestern on December 14th.

It is Wheaton's first Division I opponent (in basketball) since they played Bradley in 1974.

This will be fun!

I was also going to comment on the fact that you don't play with that many letters in Scrabble ( :D ), but I thought I'd go easy on you.  ;D ;)

LOL... Jim, between this and the Cheesebox comment about recruiting... you're going to win a prize for understatements of the year.  ;)

Jerry Springer show at least - Joe could be one of the belly bouncer

... and the loser has to wear Wheaton's orange and blue for a full year.  ;)

P.S. What on earth is a "belly bouncer"? (Is that some sort of Chicagoland thing? Whatever it is, it sounds dangerous.)

Is belly bouncing the same as belly whomping?

Whaaat?  How can Joe's belly inspire comments and not this very interesting news out of Wheaton?  Must be some kind of belly...

Quote from: kenoshamark on September 21, 2006, 07:38:26 AMSpeaking of point guards, the player from Marquette is listed and his name is Joe Higgins.  Joe played his basketball here in Kenosha at St. Joseph's H.S.   Joe is the consumate point guard and will be fun to watch for the next four years.  He had been recruited hard by Carthage coming out of high school but ended up going to Marquette for a year but didn't play basketball.  I think he had the itch to get back on the court and Carthage will be blessed to have him guiding the team.   Joe was a top 50 player in the state as a senior and played on some very strong teams at St. Joseph who made serious runs at state titles.  He isn't going to be a huge scorer but he handles the ball extremely well and has a knack for breaking down the defender and penetrating the lane.

Thanks, K-Mark. I didn't know the player's name, and I didn't see any reference to Marquette in the various player profiles. Now we know who to look for among Carthage's freshmen!

Roberto, I certainly hope that the good folks who read this board will send some karma your way for that response.  :D

Congrats to Wheaton on pulling off that coup. I have it on good authority that Northwestern originally made the offer to North Park, but NPU's schedule couldn't be juggled at the last minute to fit in the game the way that Wheaton's could.

There is no contest. If Dennis actually believes that I'm a "Pollyanna" or an "ostrich" when it comes to NPU men's basketball -- after all the critical analysis, negative appraisals, and hand-wringing that I have directed towards the Vikings over the course of the eight years that I've posted on this website -- then it is proof positive that he and reality are no longer on speaking terms. I don't know what color the sky is in Dennis's world (although I'm guessing it's perpetually gray  ;) ), but I have no desire to visit that planet just to joust with him.

I have been harsh enough in my game critiques to have made several Vikings angry with me at one time or another. I'm willing to bet that Sac doesn't get glared at by Hope players, Titan Q doesn't get the silent treatment from Illinois Wesleyan players, and WooScotsFan hasn't been told off by Wooster players ... but I've had all three things directed at me from North Park players because of criticisms that I've posted. I have said in no uncertain terms on more than one occasion that, as much as I like and respect Paul Brenegan and his assistants, they are on borrowed time to get the NPU program moving in the right direction. (By the way, I think that they're aware of that pressure without my having to tell them it's there.) I have steadfastly refused to sugarcoat losses, predict unlikely wins, blame referees or any other extraneous circumstances when the Vikings lose, see skills or potential in Vikings players that aren't there, or refrain from pointing out the team's weaknesses. It was me -- not Dennis or Mr. B or Mark or Rob or Gotberg or any other NPU fan who posts here -- who referred to the loss last December to Westminster (MO) as "the worst loss in North Park history" and said that everyone connected to the program ought to feel embarrassed about it. That's about as diametrically opposed to ostrich-like behavior as you can get. Heck, I feel pretty silly just having to say all this, because (with the exception of one self-deluded individual) everyone who reads this board regularly knows how I operate where the Vikings are concerned.

I don't think that any fan is 100% objective with regard to his favorite team. But, without trying to pat myself too hard on the back, I think that I do as good a job of striving for objectivity where my alma mater's teams are concerned as anyone on Posting Up. I'm willing to stand on my record. The only time my head goes into the sand is when I'm playing volleyball on North Avenue Beach.  ;D

Wheaton's playing a D-1 opponent, from a good conference?  This could be fun to see.

I think I'm showing my ignorance here, but how does a mumps epidemic happen these days? I thought we were all vacinated? It's the 21st century and I still don't have a flying car yet so I guess anything is possible...

matblake

In this article it talks about how Wheaton requires to be vaccinated against Mumps, so everyone is baffled. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=2469378&page=1

An ostrich?  Isn't that the flightless bird known for sticking its head in the sand when it gets frightened?  Greg is at virtually every home game; that hardly qualifies him for ostrich status.  I think it's more an apt label for someone who rarely, if ever, attends a game for fear of witnessing something bad or, conversely, for fear that a team of which one is highly critical might actually perform well!! *gasp*

There was a big mumps outbreak in southwestern Iowa earlier this summer that spread down into Kansas and Missouri.  They said vaccination or not, pretty much everyone was open for it.  Apparently the vaccination they give is really weak and any sort of really strong strain will be able to overcome it.

It's a conspiracy.

denis,
the men's lacrosse team has been the only casualty thus far as NIU cancelled a game/scrimmage.  Other than that I know of no other cacellations or even that there were athletes affected or infected.  But there is a rumor that some athletic events are being cancelled but that's all it is a rumor and speculation.
