Kent Raymond ("#24") is averaging 25.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 5.0 apg through five games.  By the end of the season, it may be hard to keep him off that 1st Team All-American squad.

Impressive win for Carthage over Hope.  Does this mean Carthage is better than expected or is the CCIW just a whole lot better than everyone else?

The Carthage and Wheaton wins last night offset the embarrassing losses earlier in the week by preseason favorites NCC and Augie. This may be further evidence that the CCIW is up for grabs this year but should never be underestimated in D III nonconference games. Let's hope for a clean sweep this afternoon.

Great wins for both Carthage and Wheaton last night! I sure hope can get a win at Simpson tonight as there may be some shake-ups in the lineup. I am hoping that Dain can come away with a good game and keep the turnovers down. Will report more later when I find out more details.

First time poster here. I'll be at the game for the Mighty Redmen cheering in the student section. Big game for the Redmen today. If they win, should they recieve more respect from teams in the CCIW and also the Nation?

Welcome  :)

Do you mean the Mighty Red Men?  ::)

Just giving you a hard time.
I bet there are many Carthage alums who still think of themselves proudly as Redmen.

However, leave it to the NCAA to mess up a good thing while not addressing some of the more "real" problems of college sports.

Let us know your analysis of the game if you have a chance.

Regarding the strength of the CCIW this year vs. last year: Stars who are All-Americans are VERY important. They may have been only 4 of the 40 league  starters in 05/06, but like in all sports, it's the All-Americans (usually seniors) who make the plays in crunch time against the good teams who make the difference between winning a close game and losing one. Senior All-Americans like the 4 the CCIW had last year (Dauksas, A'ovich, Harrigan, & Martin, a 5th year senior) are rare even in a league as consistently good as the CCIW. It's logical that the top 4 teams in the league this year won't be as dangerous in the D3 tourney as last year's 3 CCIW tournament teams were (they went a combined 7-2 in the tornament) in 06. It's early and teams like IWU, NCC, Wheaton and others can and will get better, but I agree with Bob that the league overall is down from last year.  I hope I'm wrong as I'd love to see the conference do well in March of 07. But talent will always prevail, especially experienced 22-year old talent. Maybe the entire Midwest (geographically, not the D3 region) in D3 is down this year with the exception of Wooster. I don't know as I have seen IWU play only 3 games this year and have seen no other games.

I would attest, too, that players like the ones in question here are such great leaders that they raise the level of play of those around them by leading by example and creating plays so that other players can play to their strengths.

Mr. Ypsi

WOW!  Clean sweep for the CCIW over the (THEN) #5 and #10 teams in the country! :D

Kinda makes most if not all of us on the pickems look like idiots, but I'm sure the rest (like me) are absolutely DEEElighted to take the hit! ;D

Still mighty early, but the conference race is looking like even MORE of a dogfight than usual.  I think the ONLY teams with essentially no chance at the title are Millikin and North Park, and even they will no doubt spoil a season or two.

I've gone through the all-time records before, but have forgotten the answer and hope someone will know without having to dig - has the CCIW EVER had a winner with 5 losses?  Chances are, SOMEONE will emerge and go 12-2 or 11-3, but right now it looks like parity run amuk! ;)

Wheaton led coast to coast in defeating #10 Calvin tonight.  The Thunder led for about 10 most of the game.  Final: Wheaton 73-62.

Unfortunately for the Thunder, it is an "out-of-region" game  -- the game basically doesn't count.  What a silly rule.

Raymond: 24 pts, 7 assists

Wheaton went 1-8 from 3 in the 2nd half and still had no trouble with Calvin.

I loaded Wheaton College in Wheaton, Chicago, IL and Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI (shortest distance) into www.mappoint com and get 187.8 miles.

Mr. Ypsi and AndOne thanks for the Welcome!!!  It was a great game to watch today how the Redmen dominated on Defense and Offense. This years Carthage team is playing "team" basketball. I haven't seen the Redmen move the ball around this well and play in your face defense since I have been watching for the past couple of years. Schlem is a great down low player and can also shoot the rock from the outside. With the way the Redmen rely on the 3 the past couple of games do you think this could come back to haunt them if they can't hit their shots?

Also, congrats to Wheaton and Carthage for the sweep this weekend. It was fun to watch, and I belive that  playing up at Carthage will be very tough for other teams in the CCIW and also non-conference. Us students will be getting pretty rowdy once conference comes around  ;D ;)

I get 205 miles when I use "Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI" to "Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL."  Maybe the problem, if there is one, is that you used "Wheaton, Chicago, IL"--Wheaton is in Wheaton, which is a good deal west of the city of Chicago.
