I know Carthage is playing two games in Las Vegas this year, and have gone to California and Hawaii in the recent past.  I'm curious to know where some of the other schools take a trip to in order to play some games and get in some warm weather for a a few days

North Central went to Hawaii last yr and is going to Orlando this yr.

Elmhurst is also going to Florida.

North Park & Millikin are going to California this yr.

Thanks for the info. Those players deserve it since they barely get to go home during Christmas break because of practice.  If students chose not to take a J-term, they get nearly 2 months of from school at Carthage. If you play b-ball though, I think you mine as well take one since you have to be there anyway.

What about East Dubuque, IL?

As Mr. Sager has had a lot more fun in South Beloit than Beloit, I'm sure many people have had a lot more fun in East Dubuque than in Dubuque!  ::)
Possibly, yourself included Dan?  ;)

Nope...Never been to East Dubuque...They got world-class hookers there or somethin'?

A quick shout out to Scott Hood, #12, a guard from Carthage.

It's nobody's fault except for Wheaton.  They should've chartered a plane or ferry, and travelled straight over the lake.  That would definitely solve this problem.  ;D

That's meant as a witticism, of course, but it's not a statement of fact.  Even if Wheaton had, say, a magical wardrobe that transported people instantly to far off places  ::), Wheaton and Calvin are still more than 200 miles apart in the eyes of the NCAA.

Hmmm, what advantages would the wardrobe have to, say, a train? which I could also afford...

I don't want to belabor this. I understand what you're saying, and I think that you and I are largely in agreement about the overall state of the CCIW this year.

So basically we agree, but we're arguing about some piece of minutia?

Hundreds of people have been hitting this message board everyday for 9 years now to read exactly this...let's not start to disappoint them here in 2006-07.

Augie won tonight 74-56 against Clarke. Delp had a good game as he had 22 pts on 7-11 shooting from the field. Nate Swetalla had 15 pts and Chandlor Collins chipped in 10. Dain had a much better game in the turnover category. Augie out rebounded Clarke by a 38-24 advantage. This is not a very good Clarke team where I would expect them to finish at the bottom of the CCIW.

I ate the best pork chop ever at a family diner in East Dubuque as my family traversed from Chicago to Minneapolis via the river route.  The pig was mighty fresh, no doubt.

The other day Greg referenced the South Beloit Holidome.  I had not thought of a certain bachelor party in quite a while.  Yes, I remember the details.  What happens in South Beloit, stays in South Beloit!

What happened to my avatar and how do I get a new one posted?

North Park looked good on saturday night, blowing out Loras.  They have a post player that might be pretty tough to stop from Evanston and point guard who can really push it.  They are long and really seem to understand concepts.  Brenegan did a great job on saturday night.  Look for them to possibly surprise some teams this year.

Thanks, Roc Chalk. Good luck to the Duhawks this season.

You're probably right about that, AO. But the only time I was ever in East Dubuque was when I was going through it on my way to a game at Loras back in the late '80s. Since North Park lost that game, and it was the only trip to Dubuque I've ever taken, that city's way down on my list.  ;)

David, I wonder if you and I are the only non-Wheaties who understood this clever but extremely obscure reference of yours?

I think it's more than mere minutiae to recognize that a league is a top-to-bottom proposition in terms of measuring its strength. But, hey -- even if it is merely minutiae, when has CCIW Chat ever put a moratorium on discussing trifling matters? (see: East Dubuque, Illinois, entertainment merits of; and Collinge, David, obscure Wheaton archival references of)  :D

I noticed that Dain Swetalla was back in the starting lineup for Augie tonight, although he had a quiet night. Rose, Rukavina, and Caricato all played somewhat reduced minutes tonight as well, so it looks as though DanSand was right about Chandler Collins being the emerging big man in the Augie rotation.

Late nite

Predictable results tonight against a very poor Clarke team---Intramural defense played by Clarke resulting in open and uncontested shots all night long---Great game for the stats, but not the type of team that will prepare the Vikes for the rigors of the CCIW---Saturday vs Coe (4-0) will be a much better test
