Thanks for the reminder about the QOWI. I remember reading a little about it somewhere, but must admit I am not really aware of how its determined, and what factor it plays in tournament selection. Am I alone in my ignorance of the subject?

No, not at all. And it never helps to post a brief reminder:

QOWI (Quality of Wins Index) is one of the five primary criteria used to determine the 18 tournament bids that will be distributed to Pool C (at-large teams from automatic-bid conferences). QOWI is determined by adding up all of the grades for each regional game played by a team, and then dividing the total by the number of regional games played. Here's the grading system:

* 15 points for a road win over a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .667
* 14 points for a home win over a regional foe whose regional winning % at or above .667
* 13 points for a road win over a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .500, but below .667
* 12 points for a home win over a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .500, but below .667
* 11 points for a road win over a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .333, but below .500
* 10 points for a home win over a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .333, but below .500
* 9 points for a road win over a regional foe whose regional winning % is below .333
* 8 points for a home win over a regional foe whose regional winning % is below .333
* 7 points for a road loss to a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .667
* 6 points for a home loss to a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .667
* 5 points for a road loss to a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .500, but below .667
* 4 points for a home loss to a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .500, but below .667
* 3 points for a road loss to a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .333, but below .500
* 2 points for a home loss to a regional foe whose regional winning % is at or above .333, but below .500
* 1 point for a road loss to a regional foe whose regional winning % is below .333
* 0 points for a home loss to a regional foe whose regional winning % is below .333

It seems you would almost have to be a statistician to understand D3 basketball!!  ;D

Hopefully this team won't look past Alma (and towards finals and 9 days without a game) and roll into the BlueJay classic on a 5 game winning streak.  Speaking of that BlueJay classic, if you're in the area on Sat/Sun Dec 16-17 there should be some exciting basketball with Grinnell, Whitewater, and Kalamazoo visiting.

I'll be there ecdubb!  Looking forward to watching some good basketball.  And watching Grinnell.
Go Elmhurst!

From what I can tell, just about EVERY good team has at least a few cupcakes on its schedule.
That's not a cupcake.  That's the whole bakery.

We do have an inordinate amount of stasticians posting here.  Well I guess it's premature of me to call the number inordinate; maybe I should let one of them do the math on that.

That would help make up for the ten I lost trying to take a middling position on the Lincoln thing.

Props, by the way, to Bill Harris for playing then end of his bench for most of the game.  That's the way to respect an inferior opponent without patronizing them.

What in the wide, wide world of sports made Bill Harris schedule a game against Principia? I sure hope that he was filling a late cancellation. The Panthers are coming off of a 2-22 season in which their only wins came over Lincoln Christian College and St. Louis College of Pharmacy. They haven't beaten a D3 team since February, 2005. This year they're 0-5 and the only opponent who hasn't humiliated them by at least 39 points is -- yes -- the mighty Eutectics of St. Louis College of Pharmacy, who beat the Panthers by eight (probably because the Eutectics' lab coats keep getting in the way when they dribble). Bill could've suited up Nate Frank, Owen Handy, and any three random members of the Wheaton pep band, and they still would've beaten Principia in a walkover.

At least none of Wheaton's starters played double-digit minutes in this absurd game. Coach Harris could give Lincoln's Coach Yuille a tutorial on how to gracefully conduct a blowout.

While a very valid question, it more than evens out when they face Northwestern next week.  Talk about a difference between the level of opponents in a one week timeframe...

That's true.  Let's see how Northwestern handles the situation if they find themselves with a big lead.  I'm not saying I think they will, but it's certainly a possibility.

Wheaton goes from a crispy creme melt in your mouth to an unleavened biscuit that's been left in a hermetically sealed jar under Funkenwagner's porch for 10 years.
Talk about your "My Name is Earl" Karma.
The only thing that is not in the Mix is the QOWI which won't count against a D1 school.   (am I right mr. sager?)

I see from the game recap that 89 of the 121 points where scored by the Wheaton bench.  Not far from a JV game for Wheaton.

to my knowledge brizzolara is neither injured, nor sick.  i think he is still working himself back into basketball shape after the year off.  that and aloisio is doing what brizzolara did for the team two years ago.
