When is the last time that all four away teams won on the same night in the CCIW?  Crazy!

You just got done saying that the "quickness of Augie's guards was just too much for the Thunder."  Then you go on to say that you can see how a team with quick guards would give Augie fits.  Obviously Augie's guards were quick enough to give Wheaton fits.  I guess I just don't quite understand where you're coming from here.

sorry bout that - incomplete thought - augie depended so much on their guards tonight versus Wheaton, that it really looked like a team with quick guards that matched augie's quickness and the RI vikings would get shutdown.  I think the fact that Augie sends wave after wave of fresh bodies on the court, especially the guards and they never let off the pressure on Wheaton's attempts at playing point guard by committee, was the difference in the game.  Also augie's guards are kind of short - don't you think - and while that may be good in pressuring a team without a real point guard on the floor - against a team with equal backcourt quickness the viking guards collectively might have trouble getting shots off against taller opponents.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Congratulations to Millikin on an excellent game tonight.  As April said about the Augie-Wheaton game, tonight Millikin just wanted it more than IWU.
You'll never walk alone.

So Wheaton has lost 2 straight home games?  Looks bad...

As a random note, I want to say thank you to the WONC broadcasters for being awesome at giving score and time updates.... thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

The Wheaton and Elmhurst student broadcasters have a lot to learn from your PBP guy in that regard.

I just got back from a faculty retreat in Wisconsin and saw the North Park-North Central score.  Congrats to all the Vikings -- team and coaches -- for a very important win for the program against a tough Cardinal squad.  Judging from the box score, North Central's shooters must have gone cold in the second half.

I've summarized tonite's carnage over on the pick-ems board.

To summarize the summary, we stunk! :P

Way to go Big Blue!!!  Great road win tonight.  I believe it is the first time Millikin has won @ The Shirk since Adam Provance's game winner at the buzzer back in 1997.  Mike Gavic made his presence known and did a great job on Andrew Freeman who has given Millikin trouble in the past.  Zach got his points which I figured he would, but the guards really seemed to bother Gilmore.  Let's get another one at home on Saturday against the Cardinals!!!

I went to the North Park at North Central tonight. The game was back and forth through most of the first half, with NCC leading by 6 at the half. North Park got on a roll at the beginning of the second half with PG #15 hitting a number of 3's to give NPU a lead of 12-14 points. He looked really good tonight. North Central went to a full count pressure and knocked the lead down to about 5 with 6 minutes left, but couldn't get much closer. NPU hit free throws fairly well at the end to clinch the victory. Great win for the Vikings tonight!

I've noticed over the years that WONC has had quality guys doing their broadcasts.  Do you know who's doing them this year?  I know that ****** Randazo used to do them, and he's quite talented.  He may be the same Randazo that played at Glenbard South, but if so, it probably wouldn't be him... he would have graduated high school in 2000... I'd know, that GBS team knocked Wheaton North out of the playoffs that year!

Congrats to big wins by CCIW road teams tonight!

As best I can tell from Q's "Shirk Center" stats on iwuhoops.com (through 2003-2004) and IWU's website.....

The three losses the Titans have this year at the Shirk matches the most losses in any prior year (in both 1998-99 and 2001-02, the Titans went 8-3).

Overall, IWU is 146-17 (.896) in the 12+ years at the Shirk.  This makes me feel old because my senior year at IWU was the first year...

I had been thinking about this during the games... with so much season left to be played, and how crazy the cciw is going to be this year, this might end up being the worst year for home records since the Shirk was built! :o

No idea, I do think that comment is funny though, I've heard NCC broadcasters say the dumbest things about DIII basketball nationally, and make excessive comments about the hotness of cheerleaders too much in the 5 years that I've been following CCIW basketball to think that.

I'll stop with the stats after this one....

In the first 60 games at the Shirk (94-95 to 97-98), the Titans went 59-1.

In the Bridges era at the Shirk (94-95 to 00-01), they went 93-5.

Since 2001-02, they've gone 53-12.  Not a bad record by any means, but the intimidation factor has worn off and the league is probably stronger as a whole now.

I had to miss the NPU @ NCC game this evening, but I just had a strange vibe all day that the Vikes would somehow pull it off. I don't know why; as I said the other day, NPU is going to be in one close game after another this year, and considering the atrocious FT shooting that the team had mustered to this point, the idea that they might be able to pull off a close win at the end of a CCIW game on the road was not promising.

Then, lo and behold! Tonight the Vikes went 23 for 26 from the charity stripe, including 10 for 12 in the last minute, and held off the Cards for an upset road win that will go a long way towards instilling the confidence that the Vikes need to compete in this league in 2006-07.

What's surprising is that they managed to do with in spite of getting only one carom for the night out of leading rebounder Anthony Lenoir, and also in spite of the fact that they got a pretty undistinguished performance from star guard Jason Gordon. Joe Capalbo led NPU with 19 points, Lenoir added 13, Nick Williams came off the bench to score 11, and fellow freshman sub Antonio Stevens chipped in 10 and led the Park in boards with 5. Dan Walton was the big hero for NCC with 20 and 6, while freshman PG Brandon Smith added 19 and Anthony Simmons had 18 for the hosts.

Quote from: coat on January 11, 2007, 12:34:30 AMNorth Park got on a roll at the beginning of the second half with PG #15 hitting a number of 3's to give NPU a lead of 12-14 points. He looked really good tonight.

That's freshman Joe Capalbo, Coat. Get used to that name. He's going to be a good one for the Park, and his fellow NPU plebes Nick Williams and Antonio Stevens have bright futures as well.

I have to admit that I was getting a little annoyed with constantly reading about how the CCIW has six good teams this season. It's great to see both NPU and Millikin go on the road and throw the conventional wisdom for a loop.
