Attention CCIW fans:

CCIW native diehardfan has been elected to the Posting Hall of Fame.

Please make a note of it. :)

Let me be the first to congratulate you, April! Hope the yellow blazer Pat is sending you fits properly.

Always remember to use your powers for good and not for evil. ;)

Who decided on yellow anyway?

Congratulations April, well deserved.

Scott... I'm thinking orange.. with blue velvet trim... you in? It will be fun to try to make Bob and Greg wear Wheaton colors anyway... Perhaps Pat can slip that in as a bonus when he gives us our next raise.

Personally, I'm just wondering how long it will take for my magic decoder ring to get here. :)

On a more serious note, I am honestly somewhat embarassed by my entrance to the HOF. While it's probably something most posters think is cool, I've never REALLY thought I deserved it compared to my CCIW counterparts, who were watching CCIW basketball when I was in grade school and jr high. Maybe if I sit in the corner and stare at the wall, no one will notice that I crashed the party...

Ah, you mean Liverpool High School colors ... the colors I watched my alma mater wear on the gridiron, hardwood, lacrosse field, etc., long before you were even a twinkle in your father's eye. ;)

It doubles as a mood ring, so if it arrives before Saturday night and you put it on you'll understand why it turns black about 7:15 Pacific time or thereabouts. ;)

I don't think anyone's willing to bet that you're going to be the shy and retiring type as HOFers go.

Congratulations April, you will make an excellent Hall of Fame addition. You have an across the board knowledge of d3 basketball and probably football as well. It's well deserved!

Greg, as the season progresses and NP continues to win, I'll bet the students will be there. I'm sure that they've been away for the holidays recently. The college kids that came back to Germany for the holidays just left earlier this week to get back to school. Having said that, I wish the Augie student body would show up in force more often. The team has been consistantly good the past few years, and the student body has been consistantly absent from the games.

No, actually it isn't a foregone conclusion. There really has been a serious lapse at NPU in terms of the students following the basketball team. It used to be that school tradition held forth enough for the student support to be exceptional even after NPU was subjected to bad squads and meat-grinder defeats year after year in the Peterson and Johnson eras. But over the past couple of years, that exceptional student support has dwindled. I'm now meeing recent NPU grads who tell me that they never attended a basketball game while they were North Park students. That's not surprising for former commuters, but it's very surprising for former resident students (aside from music majors, that is :D). At least, it used to be surprising. As I've said before, much to my chagrin NPU has become a soccer school rather than a basketball school.

That can all change, but it won't happen overnight. The Vikings need to continue winning in order to spread the buzz across campus. Fortunately, the recent uptick in fortunes among several NPU teams and the addition of the new Helwig Rec Center ought to give the students more incentive to support the royal blue and gold with their attendance in the stands.

Congratulations, April.  You are now part of a group of mostly middle aged (lame and out of shape) men!!  That must be hearwarming for you.  ;D

Greg,

It is really a shame to hear that the old NP atmosphere isn't there anymore.  I still run into folks that played on opposing teams in the old days who say, "I hated playing there.  It was great!"

Martin,

You inquired why the NCAA's stats weren't updated... if you check the date, then they're only updated on (roughly) a weekly basis.  Point's on the website found HERE are through all 15 games, as opposed to 13 games on the NCAA site.

PS - I said the NCAA stats were through 1/7 - for UWSP through the Stout game.  I added the Lakeland game and still did not get the number OS posted.  I just figured out that was because I did not add in the UWEC game - which makes everything right.

It would be nice if the NCAA would have the assist/to ratio among its stats.  The UAA has it - so it should be easy to do.  I think you clearly would like for it to be above 1.  Anyone know what outstanding would be?  From what I have seen, above 1.5 would be at least unusual if not outstanding.

UWSP's stats are impressing me.  Their A/T ratio of 1.8 is based more on keeping down turnovers than assists.  Point averages 9.3 turnovers a game (#1 of 363 in D3) and 15.4 assists (#95).  Muskingum is second in turnovers at 10.3.  No one in the CCIW is in the top 50 (which is all the NCAA lists).  #50 is Aurora at 13.9.  The spread from #2 to #50 is 3.6.  UWSP is a full turnover a game ahead of #2.  And they are doing this against a very tough schedule - according to Massey, #3 of 404 (#6 without using MOV).

Fouling the Pointers is pointless.  They are #1 in free throw percentage at 83.8%.  Wheaton (MA) is #2 at 79.9.

I think I am getting on the UWSP bandwagon - at least it gives me an excuse to buy a case of Point Special.  They are doing the little things we always talk about.  I was not sure they should be #1 - primarily because pre-season expectations for them were not that high.  Defending champ Whitewater picked to win the WIAC - UWSP picked third.  I now believe.

CONGRATULATIONS APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your presence gives D3Hoops the touch it really needs to make a bunch of out of shape middle aged guys feel welcome.  If you did not exist, Pat would have to invent you.

I think D3Hoops HOFers should wear Aztec Sun God outfits - nice shiny gold.  April would look great in it.  All the guys would look ridiculous - but no one would notice them since they would all be looking at our beloved Dieharfan.

Martin---

Good work on the A/TO ratios. Very interesting.  Thanks  :)

For any in the know who would care to comment-----Wondering if a conference in which the majority of teams have a ratio of 1.00 + means that conference doesn't play tough defense or they just have a lot of good ballhandlers/passers?

Conversely, when the majority is under 1.00 is the cause tough defense or sloppy ballhandling/passing/

Maybe a combination of both?
