Hoops is from New England.  They refuse to acknowledge that the Super Bowl has been contested since 2005 or the World Series since 2004.  That way the Patriots and Red Sox are still world champs.

Sitting here in New England with my Chicago Bears sweatshirt on.....priceless. ::)

Augie 22 (a/k/a "Brick") in describing Giovanines' "success" during his 7+ years as Augie's coach:  "dominating coach"  "done wonders for Augie"

Everything is relative. From a factual analysis, your favorite CCIW coach has taken his school to ONE NCAA tournament. There are a few CCIW coaches and ex-coaches whose accomplishment on this measure of "success" is a lot better than Giovanine's during the same 7-year time span. I recall an ex-CCIW coach who spent 5 years in the league during the last 7 full years who took his team to the D3 tourney 4 out of 5 years. And I think the present coach at Carthage also has a better record in this area than Giovanine does.

Knarocky 22 quote: "The way he treats his players is amazing."

I assume you are not including the ones he promised as high school seniors that they would start (although NCCA rules prohibit 10 players on the floor at once), didn't, and left Augustana.

If its true, Giovanine certainly isn't the only (CCIW) coach to promise a recruit he'd start.

Can anyone think of another team in the conference who has had several players leave the program over the last few years? Could this "promise" business have anything to do with it?

IF you are going to sit here and bring up the CCIW sportsmanship code or conduct and then say in the same breath that it is ok for fans to yell during a free throw, but if a coach gives his players instructions during that time he is considered a poor sport.  This is the biggest double standard I've ever heard of Please just drop this topic and get back to basketball....

It's no wonder people take a break from posting on this board whenever anyone has an opinion that differs from the majority of those on the board (i.e. Augie fans sticking up for Coach G.) they get crucified

Brick------

There ARE a FEW things I did as a college student that I wouldn't do today. How about you? Don't you think its more "normal" for a student to yell during a free throw than an adult---especially an adult in a leadership role?

Also, as far as yelling instructions--thats fine. BUT, as I believe Gregory said, not during the first shot of a two shot foul, especially just as the shooter is releasing the ball.

The people posting unabashed support for coach G are augustana fans, that's like saying "Listen to April, she says Wheaton is best ever so it must be!" not exactly an unbiased opinion...
Given the discussion on biases the other day that is better forgotten, this is a vaild point. But the fact that Greg, an Augie fan, or I are the one to say something doesn't necessarily make it wrong. As to the exact wording of your post, it sure sounds like you've been reading my stuff on the CCIW football board! :D

The game can't be finished as the stadium collapses under the weight of my disinterest.
You gotta admit this was pretty darn funny, spoilsport or not! I know I'm going to get into trouble for saying this on an Illinois based board, but I actually wasn't aware that the Super Bowl hadn't taken place yet. Last week I saw something on it and was like, are you serious? That hasn't happened yet? ??? So maybe that's why I find Hoops Fan's comments so funny. DIII purist here all the way, and darn proud of it.  ;D

I'm not really a Red Sox fan, but I did get into following the Pats when I was in college.  It's odd.  I had no problem watching the Superbowl last year when they got robbed in Denver, but this year when it was obviously all Bellichicks fault I can't even get excited for the commercials.  I would have thought it would be the other way around, but hey.

Luckily I live in Kansas City where you'd never know there was a game this week.  The only talk on the radio is about whether or not the late Derek Thomas will be voted into the Hall of Fame.

After catching up on posts from the last few days, it seems Coach Giovanine has become the most disrespected coach by opposing CCIW schools.  I missed him yelling "rebound" while NPU was shooting free throws Wed night, but that's probably because I'm so used to him shouting out directions to his team.

There's many things to respond to, but the comment I thought was completely wrong and ridiculous was that he was classless because he didn't have a tie on.  Countless coaches don't wear ties and even Greg Popavich, the coach of the San Antonio Spurs, didn't have one on last night.

Coach G is not classless coach, but a good one who knows basketball and has done a great job so far this year and overall in his tenure at Augie.  That's it for me about the Coach G bashing.

As for my Super Bowl prediction, in the words of the superfans: Not gonna be pretty.  BEARS!

If that's true it's going to cost him some money.  While the NCAA does not mandate ties for it's coaches, the NBA certainly does.

I just thought I should point out that Q gave wholehearted support for Coach G, and I'm pretty sure he's not an Augie fan, but I could be wrong. :D

I agree that the older you become, the more accountable you become for your own actions because at a certain point you really really should know better (this is all in a completely metaphysical vague not related to Coach G at all sense, cause I was done talking about that before the topic came up). However, I also think that a lot of college students think that being a college student is an excuse to act rude, petty, and immature, and it's really not. However, I probably have the highest standards of what good sportsman ship looks like of anyone I've discussed this with on the boards, so I don't expect my opinion on that matter to be taken seriously. I do wish people would be a little more introspective about the way they acted during sports events though... I still manage to have a whole lot of fun at sports events despite my anal-retentive sportsmanship policies. :-X :D

It's the nature of the game here... we like to discus everything to death. I'd like to believe that the intent isn't malicious, and it at least usually isn't. But, it's still frustrating to be the outlying opinion on things when there are about 2 dozen people who feel the need to weigh in to say they think you're wrong when 1.9 dozen people have already weighed in to say the exact same thing.

I don't know if it's a strange masochistic tendency or just my stubborn refusal that it doesn't have to be like this, but I keep coming back for more. I hope everyone else does too, we'll learn how to have healthy, kind, even-handed debates eventually.... I hope!  :o

Then its pretty inexcusable for a college coach...

Late nite

Coach G must not be a total tool---He not only wins, but is also able to recruit some top-notch talent to Augie---I don't think he would have that success in recruiting of future players and their parents if they didn't think he represented more than just victories---Some don't like his style, many others do

Giovanine was his usual charming self last night. Nothing like hearing a head coach yell "Rebound!" when an opposing player is in the act of shooting the first of two free throws.

It's a good thing Giovanine isn't a golf coach... ::) ;) :)

verterancciwfan,
I am very aware of the coaches and their accomplishments in the recent decades of CCIW and Tourny play.  I really meant to say that he has come into the CCIW, turned around AUGIE and is now beginning to make the playoffs and has a system in place that looks to be promising for future Vikes.
