Giovanine was his usual charming self last night. Nothing like hearing a head coach yell "Rebound!" when an opposing player is in the act of shooting the first of two free throws.

It's a good thing Giovanine isn't a golf coach... ::) ;) :)

I am going to have log in for the next 10 days just to give you all the + karma points your post deserves.

Outstanding, made my day.

MW 70:3

by the by, the other Augie coach I mentioned as talented at using free throw opportunities for the other team's players as an opportunity for coaching his players - Jim Borcherding - was Augie's golf coach for several years.  I had the opportunity to dazzle him with my mastery of 'seven-iron' gold on several occasions and he was a real gentleman on the links.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Some a few days ago said when he saw Augie he thought "this has to be the tallest D-3 team i've ever seen," or something along those lines. I've seen Elmhurst in person this year and thought they looked pretty darn tall, is Augie's front line taller?

Not really sticking up for Coach G here, but if somone called him classless because he didn't wear a tie, all I can say is 1--Are YOU the definition of class? and 2---I feel sorry for you if that is not one of the dumbest things you've ever said.

Personally, I can't see why any coach who isn't required to would wear a coat & tie. Tradition? Coaching is an "active" profession. Any good coach is always into the game, on his feet moving around, yelling (at the proper time) instructions to his team, instructing his team in an antimated manner during the short time out periods. Has to be hotter than heck, especially in many of the gyms I've been in this season.

Some will prob argue that a tie commands respect. Phooey---if the kids only respect the coach because he has a (coat &) tie on, something is wrong.

Many companies have gone to a business casual approach in recent years. These are firms where most people spend the majority of the day sitting at a desk talking on the phone or working on the computer. They are not anywhere near as active as a basketball coach. If they dress casually, why shouldn't/wouldn't a coach. Seems like it would be far more practical, not to mention comfortable, if coaches would ditch the coat and tie. It looks kinda silly to me. I can't believe either players or fans would lose respect for any coach just because he didn't have on a coat and tie.

Just my opinion----off the soapbox now..............

David... was that really not on purpose? Too funny!

Not that I don't understand the logic in this argument and all, but I sure am a sucker for a guy wearing a nice suit and tie. How about we not buck this tradition any time soon? Thanks. :P

Elmhurst is a little taller inside... but my namesake, Brian Lee, isn't very tall. Maybe it was in reference to the team as a whole?

brlhsfan-  I am trying to complete all my errands and agenda, to allow me to make the trip down to Bloomington tomorrow.  While I am always positive, and try to find something nice to say about Elmhurst and (the rest of the D-3 sports world), but Tuesday Night vs. Millikin was difficult.  There were not too many "bright spots" for the Navy Blue and they suffered the consequences.
Mr. Ruch was telling me that there will be a large contingent of Ruch's family and friends at the Shirk.  I have a Elmhurst Cabinet meeting at 1, and depending on how long the meeting runs, I will see if I make the trek down I55.  ;D

With regards to Loyola--  My Cousin Dana attends Loyola and is on the Softball Team there.  She and I will often meet up with her Brother (other Cousin) and watch the Loyola Games.  The Jordan boys are fun to watch and makes me feel somewhat "older" because I remember when their Father was winning titles for the Bulls.

"If Augie and Elmhurst make the tournament they won't win a game."
That's a pretty bold, and strange statement right there.  What's your foundation behind this statement?  I think Augie is one of the strongest teams in the Midwest Region and a legitimate Final Four candidate.  When Elmhurst has their A game, (which hasn't been hibernating the last 2 games  :o ),  they are a legitimate Elite 8 team.
I think both teams are loaded with talent and will win a few NCAA Tournament games.

Now for Saturday's game vs. IWU,  this game has me worried.  IWU plays very well at home, and is coming off a big win.  Elmhurst has played well on the road, but has zero momentum heading into the game.  I think the real key is controlling Zach inside.  They did not really stop Zach at Elmhurst.

Whoever said that didn't see the '05-06 version of Wisconsin-Stout. They had three seven-footers (John and Jacob Nonemacher, and Jesse Piehl), not to mention a 7-2 assistant coach (Kipp Christianson). It seems like WIAC teams quite often have very good size.

I stand behind my tie comment. Forget that intially it was really just a joke.  Now with all the ridicule, I'm forced to back it.  Show respect for the game, the players, the fans, the opposition, etc.  For this same reason, I can't stand Bill Bellicek and his ugly hoody.

Hey, I'm sure crazy Bill would wear a tie if only the NFL licensing agreement would let him.

Q, that whole Coach G as the Augie golf coach thing was so funny, it made my night. I had no idea, we'll have to check with the golfers to see if he yells intructions to his players while the other guy is putting.

Joe, I am sitting here in Germany witih my Bears sweatshirt on. I got this sweatshirt when the Bears went to the super bowl in 85. As luck would have it, I was in Germany for that one too. My brothers want to send me over here periodically just so the Bears can keep getting back to the super bowl. I am having a super bowl party, even though the game comes on at 12:30 in the morning over here. I am picking Da Bears over the ponies 35-20.

I dont give a rip about what the Belicheck wears on the sidelines, but his behavior towards Peyton Manning after the AFC championship game was classless.

GO BEARS and GO AUGIE!!! Won't win a game Mark? Um......whatever.....

Looking forward to watching the Jays in action tomorrow night at IWU!  Should be a good game and I think it's a pretty important game for Elmhurst (aren't they all).  Traditionally, Elmhurst has struggled at Shirk.  Q: Have the Jays ever won AT the Shirk?  But doesn't sound like this years Titan team has the ammo to compete with Elmhurst.  If Elmhurst just comes to play, should be a 'W'.

Ryan Burks should have a big fan following there as well being it's the closest Elmhurst game to Manito!  Looking forward to it!
Go Elmhurst!

Hey RK,

I think the Jays have won only once?  (not 100% sure), but I know that is not a friendly building down in Bloomington for us, and most visitors.
Elmhurst will have a decent backing at the Shirk tomorrow.

I actually agree, on a serious level, that it is more respectful. My comment wasn't meant to be ridicule at all. I was just noting that I like the way guys look in suits. :D

I'm pretty sure Coach Harris still makes all the guys on the Wheaton team do the shirt and tie thing on the road before/after the game, and when they're on the bench with an injury for that matter... I've noticed this is a little abnormal but still comes off as very classy. (Someone who's still living in the area will have to tell me differently if it's changed in the last two-three seasons.) I love our old schoolesque former marine head coach!  ;D

Results of the game aside, what we all really need is for Coach Rose to have developed a super secret master plan to contain your #2 Fantasy Pick, Mr. Brent Ruch, and likewise, for Coach Scherer to have randomly decided that the most important person on the IWU team to contain is actually your #4 pick Daruis Gant, and not Zach Freeman. No offense of course. :P :D ;) :) :) :)
