As of an hour ago I had not received the update - considering I almost certainly slipped another spot, perhaps you mercifully omitted me?! :P

Is this a typical year?  If so, it looks like 6-7 losses is a magic number and any team other than Augie and Elmhurst would have to sweep their remaining games and probably get to the Championship game of the tournament and lose.

That sure doesn't seem to factor in the "beat each other up in the best conference" reality.

I would be very surprised to see any team sweep their remaining games (including Augie and Elmhurst), so the chances for a third team, as a Pool C entry, seem pretty remote to me.

Pat Coleman

It was the first year of the expanded tournament, so I would say we don't really know yet.

M.O.P. candidates collide at the rim (Elmhurst's Brent Ruch and IWU's Zach Freeman)...

And a pic of Elmhurst's other giant, 6-10 Nick Michael, guarding Freeman...

Bob, random question for you:

If Wheaton wins Saturday night, they'll have won their third game @ IWU's Shirk Center.

Has any other team won that many times? I know there are several at two wins, I just can't remember if there's ever been anyone who had that many. ???

Augustana has 3 wins (1 under Steve Yount and 2 under Giovanine).  Augie won @ IWU just last year.

The first pick in Q's post was the "half dunk" I spoke of in an earlier post:  it popped up about 2 feet above the rim and went in.

I was surprised the Hooper's Club didn't ride N Michael about his tan lines around his arm pits.  I hadn't seen him since last year...you can tell he worked very hard in the weight room during the off season...at least I didn't remember him being that cut.

I do not believe there is any player on Augie that will or should be considered for the MOP award. I think that is what you have to love about this year's Augie team. Their success is truly a team effort, although Dain and Wessels are certainly potential all conference performers. They are the one team in the conference that has consistently won big games without constantly relying on one or two big scorers.

Stats like those cited by Diehard are interesting, but we all know statistics frequently lie. On stats alone Wessels is a non-starter, yet every one who follows the CCIW knows that he is the key to Augie's success and perhaps  the best guard in the conference this year.

Apparently Michael has worked very hard in the tanning booth as well.

Zach Freeman has moved into some elite company.  He'll leave as one of the best 5-7 players to ever play for the Titans.

One other thing you have to look at when deciding a MVP, MOP, etc.  is this.  Where would the team be without him (the candidate)?
I think Ruch is a great player and think he is a first team AC candidate.  However, I do think Elmhurst would be close to where they are at, without him.
IWU would not even be close to where they are currently at without Freeman, who has been the backbone of the team all year.  This is why IMO, I would give it to Freeman right now.
Wheaton has Standard, Wiele, and Panner up and coming, which makes me think they would still be close to their current setting without Raymond.
Walton, well I know AndOne has the nationalistic pride like I do for Elmhurst.  :D  I think Walton is a good player, but IMO not in the same class as the other 3.

1. I agree Ruch is great. I have a prob believing EC would be close to where they are without him.

2. Agree IWU would not be close to where they are without Freeman. I think IWU is perhaps the team with the largest gap between their best and second best players. Is this a good criteria for MOP?

3. I think Raymond is the most dangerous shooter in that he is the one I would want shooting the last second shot to win the game. Next one I'd take in this scenario is Burks. However, I don't think Raymond is in the top 5  ALL AROUND players.

4. I believe Walton who is 8th in scoring, tied for 3rd in rebounds, 3rd in FG%, T9th in assists, T5th in steals, T5th in blocks, and first in def. rebounds is one of the top 5 ALL AROUND players in the league. Also, where would NCC be without him?

Anyone else amazed that Zach Freeman is yet to have the title "CCIW Conference Player of the Week" next to his name for this season?

Yes!

When a great future PRO like Sikma scores 2272 ending in '77 it kinda boggles my mind (how 'bout anyone else's?) that Bill Warden scored 2249 for North Central ENDING IN 1955! This of course was before the 3 point shot and when basketball was played at a MUCH slower pace!

Leon Gobczynski of Millikin is the most prolific scorer in CCIW history, and he, too, played in the pre-trey era. From 1971-75 Gobo scored 2,635 points for the Big Blue.
