Brick must be a very young and slightly naive Augie fan. Anyone who has followed the CCIW for any length of time knows Augie is a long way from clinching home court for the conference tourney.

I expect them to win at home Saturday, but road wins for Augie at IWU are few and far between, and Carthage handled Augie pretty easily in Kenosha. So those last two games are going to be a real challenge. It should also be noted that Augie has pulled out a lot of close victories so far in the conference season and were quite fortunate to eke out home victories over IWU and Wheaton.

I think the resevations can be put on hold a little longer. It's not like it's hard to get a last minute hotel booking in the QC at this time of year (or any time of year for that matter).

I intentionally spell Millikin wrong, take that Decatur! ZING!

Late nite

Brain freeze---Augie plays Saturday night, not Friday---Narrow victories or not, protecting your home court usually leads to conference championships

I'm not trying to jinx anyone, but if I know the guys on the team and and Coach G, they have to be one of the more determined groups in the confrence...after the loss up at Carthage, and a near miss at home against Wheaton, I would not want to play the Vikes in the up coming week and a half...

Yes Augie has a scary game down in Bloomington, however I would expect Elmhurst to stumble at least one more time giving the Vikes a 2 game lead with 3 games remaining...

Just my two cents!   ;D

I happen to know that determindness in the CCIW is ranked like this:
Carthage
North Cenrtal
North Park
Augustana
Elmhurst
Illinois Wesleyan
Wheaton
Milliken

Making Augustana no better than 4th on the determindness scale.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but could you please explain to us how you came up with this ranking? Thanks.

You know what the "N" stands for on the Cornhusker football helmets don't you?....

Oh no you didn't!!!!!

Nebraska leads the nation with 233 Academic All-Americans.  It's quite funny when you go to make fun of something and it turns out to be apparently more true of yourself...

No overreaction Scream. The joke has been around since at least the late 60s-early 70s--its kinda old by now, Dennis needs to update his "comedy routine."

While I think there is a good chance the CCIW Tournament will take place in Rock Island, I do think there are some "exciting" things left here in the regular season.  Look at the Millikin/IWU Women's game.  IWU has been breezing through the CCIW, loses to Milllikin @home, and now finds themselves in a 1st place tie with Wheaton.  These two play each other Saturday.
Same thing with the men.  Elmhurst has as much of a chance of losing to NPU, Wheaton, NC Millikin as Augie has of losing to M, IWU and NC.  Any given Saturday anything can happen.
North Park is a team that scares me (from an Elmhurst standpoint).  The Vikings are hustlers, shoot the ball well, and are fighting to stay alive in the CCIW Tournament.  I still feel we were somewhat "lucky" to win that game @NPU earlier this year.  I think Elmhurst has to watch Capalbo.

I wonder if Elmhurst is going to cut the lights and do the spotlight during their intros again.  I liked it as it added a little excitement to the intros.  They did it for both the visitors and home intros which was a good way to "get into the game".

Mr. Ypsi

The pick ems 'gurus' look for a predictable weekend:

Augie 17, Millikin 0
Carthage 14, NCC 3
Elmhurst 14, NPU 3

Only the 4th game was close:

Wheaton 10, IWU 7

But before blowing off Saturday as a fait accompli, remember that just 9 days ago these 'gurus' picked Elmhurst unanimously over Millikin! :P

Save this discussion for the summer, but as preliminary voting is done by districts....

one year a football player transferred from Texas to Oklahoma.... it raised the IQ level in both states.... and that's why Nebraska has had so many academic All-Americans.

Sort of like saying they grow potatoes in Idaho.

Alright, now I'm fired up. It doesn't matter how they have them, all the schools play within the same rules, so if the rules are bad then Nebraska has just done a better job of exploiting them, which is also noteworthy.
If you look at Nebraska's academic all-americans they are kids that have 3.98 gpa's in pre-med, engineering, finance, etc. these aren't easy classes. They deserve the accolades they get.

Calm down big fella - don't go shuffling your feet - no ones dissssing Nebraska's Academic All-American accomplishments.  Don Bryant (the Fat Fox) long-time SID at Nebraska was a good friend (as he was to many, many, many, many people).

I'm glad that once off the football field Nebraska football players know how to lift a textbook as well as bales of hay.

Now take a deep cleansing breath - that's it - now exhale slowly - if you feel yourself starting to hyperventilate get a paperbag, put it over your head and think nice thoughts about Bill Callahan.

This Nebraska bunch is almost as sensitive as the IWU bunch, me thinks  ;) ;) ;)

I'd be happy to, unfortunately the confines of this message board prevent me from going in to a lot of detail but its a pretty long math formula related to retention rates, class sizes, endowment figures, test scores, placement rates, and intramural offerings. Those of us in higher ed administration have access to the listserv's that discuss this data and its quite eye opening.

OK, thanks----I at least see where you're coming from. I guess it was the word "determindness" that threw me. I thought you were talking about which conference team is most determined to win, and I wondered how such a ranking could be compiled.
