OK, thanks----I at least see where you're coming from. I guess it was the word "determindness" that threw me. I thought you were talking about which conference team is most determined to win, and I wondered how such a ranking could be compiled.

It's actually part of the Massey ratings.

Before the IWU/Wheaton game, there will be an "old alums" vs "young alums" contest at 5:15.  The youngsters will be led by Adam Dauksas, Cory Jones, Chris Jones, Jason Fisher, Mike McGraw, and others.  The old guys will feature 1997 Division III Player of the Year Bryan Crabtree who, just a year out of retirement from professional basketball, can still play.  NIU transfer Scott Peterson, the 6th man on IWU's 1995-96 Final Four team, will also be on that squad along with Brady Knight and others.

Early line: Old alums by 4

According to the paper this morning, Nate Swetalla should be back in Augie's starting lineup tonight, but Dain is still suffering from an upper respiratory infection and is "expected to see limited minutes."

Breaking news -- the "old vs young" format has been scrapped.  Final rosters are:

(G) Jim Lehan '04
(G) Jason Fisher '06
(G) Nathan Hubbard '99
(F) Bryan Crabtree '97
(F) Steve Schweer '06
(F) Chris Jones '06
(F) John Lipic '94
(F) Matt Swingler '96

vs

(G) Adam Dauksas '06
(G) T.J. Posey '96
(G) Mike McGraw '06
(F) Steve Kuehl '93
(F) John Camardella '03
(F) Cory Jones '06
(F) Scott Peterson '96
(C) Steve Jeretina '05

This would seem to be about a pick 'em, but I'm going with Team Crabtree by 3.

Disturbingly, Steve Kuehl - my Class of 1993 mate - will be the oldest guy on the floor.

Wow, I would pay money to see Jimmy Lehan play again... Hmm, 4 hr flight, closest airport 50 mins away... have to check in 30 mins before flight... 2h drive to Bloomington... darn. Oh well. I guess Wheaton will just have to win without me. :P

The line should be more like: Jimmy Lehan's team by 27. Who's this Brian Crabtree guy. ;)

Bob, are the IWU students doing video for this one? If so, what's the link?

April, you are the one who said all along in 2003-04 that Jim Lehan should be starting.  IWU went 7-4 with Lehan as a reserve and then 14-3 with him as a starter (starting with the first CCIW game).  I will send you a Jim Lehan bobblehead from tonight's Shirk Center giveaway -- you deserve it!

No video tonight unfortunately.  You are stuck with WETN or yours truly.

Re: bobbleheads.... you are kidding, right? Cause I was pretty sure Rob was pulling that stuff out from his rear. In hilarious fashion, of course, cause I though it was funny that AndOne went along with it. Apparently I was way off(!!!!) though, so I don't have a good track record this week.. Plus, I seem to remember some sort of "popsicle stick with a picture of Jimmy on it" thing... was that on his bday and made my his parents  or something? Am I just making this up? ??? Maybe a bobblehead isn't the strangest thing after all. ???

Jimmy was just one of those players that just let's their heart bleed all over the place every game. When you combine that with basketball smarts, whether or not you are the most talented person to ever put on a uniform matters much less. Jimmy basically singlehandedly put that Sweet Sixteen game back into contention Kasten and Camardella (and maybe Hubbard?) on the bench with 5 fouls. That was all I needed to see. The way that guys like Jimmy, and Jon Nielson, and Johnnie Standard (and so many others) are... that's what makes you win the close games when you're down... and what make D3 so lovable. I am glad Trost started him and that I got to find out about it before the game... sure was a hard secret to sit on... even just for a few hours!

Anyhow, if someone says hi to the Mr and Mrs Lehan for me (if they are there) we can skip the bobblehead. :D.

And the Wheaton broadcast guys tend to border on terrible, so, if you promise to have Art do the cast with you and you guys interview Jimmy and John Camardella at half time, I'll think about it. :)

I heard a rumor that Augie may be having an alumni game tonight as well, has anyone heard anything about that? Dansand? I think that Shaun may be playing.

Bobbleheads? I would only believe that of IWU. They are definately super fans.

There is a nice article on the North Park website about Luke Dahlstrom, a fourth-generation North Parker, who (somehow!!) balances basketball, academics, and volunteering through North Park's Urban Ministries:

I am sure that if Coach Baines wasn't coaching Elmhurst tonight vs. NPU, he would love to be apart of that IWU alumni game.    As much as we try to playfully get him to "bleed blue", he is loyal to his roots at IWU which I find very respectful.
If Dain cannot go tonight, that is a big gap in the middle for Augie, which I think adds extra weight to Delp, Wessels, and the Nate Swetalla.   Hopefully Dain gets well soon for Augie's sake.
I know Greg is fired up for tonight's game at Elmhurst, and I know NPU is eager to seek "revenge' for the Bluejays' win in Chicago earlier this year.  I think EC has to control Capalbo, and more importantly match NPU's intensity early.  I think if EC falls behind early, NPU's hustle might eventually fatigue the Jays.

Mr. Ypsi

I see on the scoreboard that Millikin beat Augie 73-60 - I assume that is an error (or incredibly bold prognosticating!) and the game has yet to be played?!

I'm pretty sure that's the women's score...Jeez, I hope anyway.

The local paper, the Augie website, and the Millikin website all list a jayvee game at 5:15 tonight, so maybe the alumni play earlier. I'm not sure.

Dain only played 11 minutes against Wheaton Wednesday, all in very short spurts. I think maybe they can go with a smaller lineup tonight and still match up reasonably well with the Big Blue. The paper said Caricato would get the start again, but I think Chandlor Collins could get significant minutes at the 5 as well...Which brings up a question. I wonder what happened to Dan Rukavina's playing time. He played very well early in the year and seems healthy and still gets occasional minutes, but Caricato has been getting most of the minutes behind Swetalla lately.

Wheaton C just called --

Wheaton's brand-new bus broke down just outside campus.  The replacement bus isn't scheduled to leave until 5:00pm.  So even if they get to the Shirk Center by 7:00, I assume we won't tip it tonight until closer to 8:00.
