A  U.W. LaCrosse victory over #1  U.W. S.P. would leave Elmhurst out of the big dance.  Does anyone agree with me?

diehardfan

Yes, but I also believe that Elmhurst can only get in with a Pool A... the reason all the regulars are rooting for Elmhurst is not anything to do with Augustana, it has everything to do with the fact that the scenario where Elmhurst wins an A, and Augustana then is an almost automatic Pool C, is the only way for the CCIW to get two bids.

As the statistically best conference in the country, it would be a travesty if we only got one bid. But the numbers are not working for us. If Augustana wins tonight, one bid is exactly what we'll get, regardless of what happens anywhere else.  :'(

Go Elmhurst... for now! :)

UWSP is just one of many teams for whom a loss would cause them to eat up a Pool C berth that Elmhurst would need if the 'jays lose.

Here is the list, once again (with Amherst added, per Chuck's suggestion):

Apparent Pool C locks
Messiah
Brandeis
Chicago
Keene State
Virginia Wesleyan
Brockport State
Catholic/Hood loser
St. John's/St. Thomas loser
Rochester
Trinity CT
Mary Hardin-Baylor
Husson

Teams no longer playing who appear to be ahead of Elmhurst in the Pool C line
Stevens Tech
Guilford
UW-LaCrosse
NYU

Teams likely to cut in line in front of Elmhurst if they lose tonight or tomorrow
Amherst
UWSP
WPI
Wooster
Mississippi C.
John Carroll
Hope
Centre
Whitworth/L&C loser
Manhattanville

So, no, there's nothing magical about UWSP in particular that would bump Elmhurst out of Pool C consideration if UWL beats the Pointers tonight. It would simply be one more incremental jolt to whatever infinitesimally small chance the 'jays had for a Pool C berth when they woke up this morning.

Mr. Ypsi

Can probably safely remove one team from the list - Wooster is destroying OWU.

Yup, as expected. However, in Ohio's other big battle, Capital leads John Carroll by two at the half. I expect that one to go down to the wire, especially since it's being played at Capital.

Where are 79jaybird and BRLHS when you need them? Guys, if you're online, please post updates in the In-Game Updates room.

Heck, if anybody is online who has access to the game, please post updates in the In-Game Updates room!

Looks like Augie is on the verge of winning the CCIW's Pool A bid and Elmhurst is officially on the bubble.

For anyone who has time to check, I'm wondering what Elmhurst's QOWI and in-region winning % was before the CCIW tournament and now after.  With a 1-1 weekend, both numbers obviously went down. As dicey as the Pool C situation is, I'm wondering if that difference is enough to cost EC a bid.

Many of the CCIW conference tournament proponents sold it as a way for the league to get more teams in the NCAA tourney...this year, the way it has turned out, it has hurt the league's chance.  By how much, I'm not sure - I have to see the before/after numbers - but the fact is that the chances of 3 teams (NCC, Wheaton, and Elmhurst - and I realize only EC had a shot) were hurt because of the tournament.

78-70 Final from Augie.

Congrats to the Vikes on back to back NCAA tourny bids!

Calvin may now be the team that knocks Elmhurst out of the big dance.

congrats to Augie on winning the CCIW tournament and regular season Titles.

Congrats to the Vikes---What a season!!---Augie had a great season last year, but the Vikes have proven to be a BETTER team this year---Four losses to four quality teams, no lapses against lesser opponents along the way---Hope to be playing again next weekend in RI---The LUCK continues!!

Yup, as expected.

Maybe you expected a blowout win for Wooster, but not many others did.  Wooster beat OWU by 7 and by 6 during the regular season, and both contests were decided in the final minute.  The ease with which the Scots dispatched the Bishops tonight was a big surprise to most of us.

Congratulations to the Augustana men and Wheaton women on their regular season and tournament titles.
