Nice catch, Bob. I'd forgotten about those two Wheaton teams (and I'm surprised that nobody from Wheaton posted to remind me about them).
Are you serious? ???
Yep. ;D
Mean! Owww! :-[ I mean... it totally doesn't exist! 8) :-X

Is this where I remind you that we beat you twice this year? and last year? and the year before that? AND the year before that? ;D

What a prophecy!

In the small fish bowl of D3, that is it!  by George!

Weakest CCIW in intramurals ever.

And to think, these kids are still paying off their loans!

Not to be totally random or anything, but I'm totally loving Coach Rose's superfly blazer in this pic.

It's unfortunate that his tie doesn't quite match.  :-X

I believe that that blazer is what the kids these days refer to as "kicking it old school."

Darn kids. Get off my lawn!

So here I am in downtown Chicago, a few hundred feet from the Sears Tower and no sign of Sager?  :o

Are any of the CCIW teams still playing?

Oops..........

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Did Carroll ever make the tournament as a CCIW school?  When I attended North Park in the 80s, my alma mater had a nasty consecutive win streak against the Pioneers.  This leads me to believe Carroll may have never qualified as a CCIW rep., but I don't know when the school joined the league.

They were in the CCIW from 1956-92.  Their 37-year record was 187-364 (.339), by a sizable margin the worst overall record of any CCIW school, past or current.  They never won a title, but I can't say whether they were ever an at-large (I doubt it).

They've obviously come a LONG way since 1992!  Congratulations to Carroll (darn it!).

They've never won a tournament game, so unless they made it in and lost in the first round, I don't think they've been before.

Carroll was the league 'whipping boy' for several schools throughout the seventies, eighties and early nineties, as several school had long winning streaks against the Pioneers - but not always in beautiful downtown Waukesha.  I think IWU had a 29-year winning streak in Bloomington.

During the early sixties, when Wheaton & Elmhurst, were out of the league, Carroll did enjoy some success with a couple of top three finishes.  Their star player was a guard named Irie Grant.

Over the years they had a couple of outstanding players, guard Dave Shaw, 1974-77 in particular, but the team was always 2nd division.  I think they had only one first division finish from 1964 on.

North Park's top two winning streaks were a pair of 33-game win streaks vs Carthage and Elmhurst.

I saw them at NYU about a month ago -- thought they were talented but not very deep and they might have problems against teams with strong big men.

You mean like Elmhurst? oops............. ;D

Coaching is a tough business.  Today Illinois State fired men's head basketball coach Porter Moser and his 3 assistant coaches...

Porter and his assistants, like Tim Littrell, are all good guys.

Here's a quote from the on-line article:

"It's true, CCIW schools like Illinois Wesleyan, Carthage, Wheaton and North Park have all fairly recently moved into new arenas. North Central has broken ground on theirs."

Does the sportswriter think North Park is now playing its games in the Helwig?

But Kerans will ... zero in on a candidate who hopefully can be on the job recruiting, coaching and selling his vision to the community sometime in April.

Thanks Lori, I accept!!!  ;D :D ;)

Carroll had never appeared in the the D3 tourney until last season.

NPU still has a home winning streak against Carroll that goes back to the mid-'70s. I don't have the North Park record book with me here, but I think that that crackerbox streak vs. Carroll is now up to about 18 games or so. The Vikings had an overall 17-game winning streak against Carroll that was snapped when the two teams met in Waukesha in 2004 and the Pioneers prevailed. The previous year the Vikings had extended both the home and overall streaks in an NPU win in Chicago that marked the first time the two former CCIW rivals had met since Carroll left the league.

Carroll beat North Park twice in Waukesha during my student days, once in 1981 and once in 1983.

You should've told Sears Tower security to go up to the roof and flash the Bat Signal for me.
