I tried getting the entire AC list in last night, but computer issues kept that from happening.  I did want to get on the record as saying Zach Freeman should be first team (looks like the CCIW Coaches didn't agree).  If anyone bashes me for having green tinted glasses, be sure to include in the same sentence whom you would take as your starting center in the CCIW instead of Zach.  I also think that Matt Arnold and Chris Jones could be considered for most improved.  However, the definition of that award sometimes requires a certain amount of playing time the year before.  I have no argument with the other voters picks on the MIP.  Coach Trost deserves the COY and Adam deserves the MOP...as did all of the other award winners.

Good luck to the Titans and the Thunder in the playoffs.

No one here has discussed the D3 FF.  Any opinion?

Probably a sore subject.  And they have been discussing the d3 final four for several days, just not this year's final four.

Nice article on Bosko's son being named first-team all state.  Steve is in some rather select  company with the rest of this group.  Of the seniors, all are going D1 to schools such as Wisconsin (two of them), Marquette, and Iowa State.  Of the juniors listed, I know one is already pledged to Michigan State.

This is coming off a football season where Steve, as the quarterback, led his team to state and garnered some all state mention as well.

Carthage is well positioned at the guard position for the next 3-4 years and if they can get some size, things should start looking up.

Congrats to Zach for his first team AA nod! Zach was a truly outstanding and humble player, and I couldn't be happier for him... I was a little worried that he'd be on a lower team because of how IWU fared, but was very happy to see him right where he belongs as one of the best big guys I have ever seen.

Congrats Zach!

Was honestly surprised and bummed no to see Kent Raymond on the list. As the CCIW MOP and the West Region MOP and thanks to everything anyone ever says about him and his stats... esp after being a preseason AA, I honestly thought he was a shoein and never bothered to advocate for him properly.... oops. When was the last time the CCIW MOP was not on ANY of the AA teans? ??? :(

Yes, big-time congrats to Zach Freeman on the 1st Team All-Amercian nod.

Zach is the best Division III big guy I saw this year (I didn't see Strong from Guilford).  Much deserved!

I think a) Kent just got caught in an incredibly strong guard year, and b) he's just a sophomore - when there are two even players, I gotta believe the nod goes to the upperclassman.

Kent Raymond and Stephen Cramer (Hope) are the two best Division III guards I saw this year - they are very even.  Cramer, a senior, made the 4th Team, which leads me to believe that the guard crop was amazing this year.  There are a lot of years where Raymond and Cramer would be the 1st Team backcourt.

7 of the 10 guards named to the D3hoops.com 2007 AA team graduate.  Mr. Raymond will be on there in 2008 and 2009...he will make a strong 1st Team push next year.

Mr. Ypsi

Pat,

Thank you for moving Zach Freeman back to his 'legitimate' forward position.

When he was only third team (center) AA preseason, then IWU proceded to have a very off-year, I was afraid he would not get due recognition because he was 'center by default' this year.  Thanks again.

To those upset that Kent Raymond did not receive AA recognition, I agree - but notice that there were NO sophs (or frosh) on any of the teams.  His time is definitely coming!  (And if it is at all a close call, I'd agree that seniors should get the nod, since their time is now or never.)

There were many, many seniors we really wanted to get on the list. I thought guards were going to be easy, but in the end, the guard decision was very difficult.

A few of the guards listed ahead of Raymond had playoff performances which elevated them above their status on their respective All-Region teams, which only include results through the end of the regular season.

Pat,

are there any published guidelines for the AA teams selected by d3hoops? I'll admit I didn't look so forgive me if thats a stupid question.

My underlying question is what is the process when playoffs are included and by definition that precludes some players from selection.

Pat Coleman

I think it would be foolish to not consider all available games a person has played in a season. I think if you look at the past you'll be reminded that making the playoffs is not a be-all and an end-all for selection to the All-American team -- how many playoff games did two-time All-American Joel Kolmodin play, for example? -- and in fact, playoff performances can help or hurt. But they are games, just like the 25-plus-conference-tournament contests.

No player is precluded from selection by not making the playoffs.

I wouldn't disagree. It simply makes the process entirely subjective (which is why I asked if there were any "published" criteria). subjective is fine but, like any process, has its limitations. I am pretty sure all the professional sports base their awards on regular season performance. this is different. nothing wrong with that but by your admission it means some get excluded (or possibly included) because of post season games.

Pat Coleman

The process has always been entirely subjective. It's not like we can put all the guards into a bracket and have them play one-on-one to get an objective result. :)

you could create them on Xbox 360 and have a playoff!! that would be cool.
