If Hillsdale has only 1,300 students, I wonder what percent attend games - the team averaged 418 fans last year.

Less than .32153846153846153846153846153846 as its doubtful all attendees are students  ::)

Is Hillsdale accredited? I'm just curious how far their independent stance extends...

They are actually a very good academic institution.  Third tier national liberal arts college per US News and World Report, 200 million dollar endowment, "more selective rating", 3.7 average freshman GPA, etc.

and because they are known for their conservative politics they may not be getting as many kudos from "non-politically conservative" presidents in that aspect of the USNews ratings.

Interesting article about the ratings yesterday...Should college presidents withhold data?

matblake

That was a very interesting article.  My feeling is that without any formative data or examples of US News and World Report tweaking the rankings it will continue to be the powerhouse that it is.  People not in the academic world are looking for a conclusive, concise set of rankings.  The Report provides that resource for them.

All these posts about a former MWC coach and Hillsdale--makes me wonder if its time for a MWC/CCIW merger  ???

I have quite a bit of recruiting news, but I'm a little reluctant to share it while it's still March on the calendar. Commitments are never set in cement in D3, of course, but even those commitments that appear to be so certain that the school in question announces them to the media don't tend to be confirmed this early. Most of what I'm hearing and reading falls into the "I'm almost sure he's going there" or "it looks like he's going to choose that school" or "he's narrowed it down to This College, That College, and The Other University" categories, and I'm somewhat gun-shy about prematurely sharing that sort of stuff publicly and having it spook my sources into silence. I'd rather stay on good terms with my sources than break recruiting scoops at the drop of a hat just to engage in oneupsmanship. The reason why I broke the story last week about Brett Wessels transferring was because my source used the magic words, "It's a done deal."

I can say, though, that North Central is one school of which I'm in the dark in terms of prospects. That doesn't mean that Raridon & Co. aren't close to landing any new players; it's more than likely just a weak link in my grapevine access. That's a little odd, since NCC's usually one of the schools with whom I'm most familiar in terms of who they're pursuing.

Thanks for the response, Mr. Sager. Hopefully you'll turn into a Super 8 Motel faucet and start leaking some info soon.  ;D

There is a survey rather negative on MWC's Lawrence U. on the front page.

I didn't see a survey like this last year on D3 Hoops when Trost left IWU and so did Ameliovich and 3 other seniors--why the hate for an MWC program ?    Makes you wonder.  ???

I think Pat should explain that since the two situations are parallel.   ;)

The difference is that Scott Trost did not build Illinois Wesleyan's basketball program like John Tharp did at Lawrence.  When Trost took the job, IWU was fresh off a Final Four the season before and 3 trips to Salem in the previous 6 years.  IWU was the 2nd winningest school in all of Division III and a longtime power in the CCIW.  Scott Trost continued the successful tradition that had already been established.

I assume the reason for the poll is that John Tharp basically built LU's program from scratch.  The question of what happens now that he is gone is pretty fair.

T2K is slipping. That survey has been up almost a week.

I considered a smite for Pat, except I would likely be held up at the pearly gates for doing so.

Titan Q, thanks for the effort. I relish seeing LU unranked before 2007/2008 season and watching them play the NCAA tourney again and hopefully getting a draw against an overrated CCIW squad, ala 2007 for Carroll.

You took the bait, Bob. T2K isn't interested in substantive replies by you or anyone else on CCIW Chat. He's simply trolling in order to get a rise out of CCIW fans, so the room will be better off if we all just ignore him.

Response didn't bother me here. It's not like his no-thought-required ax grinding on other issues, the posts I simply delete and suspend him for a few days for.
