(Ok, look here to understand what I'm talking about...)

You have to love the 3rd option they give for Massachusetts.

The final player list and rosters for the Collegiate Basketball Invitational...

http://www.mccarthysports.com/player_rosters.html

Looks like 7 Division III players were invited:

Zach Freeman (6-7), Illinois Wesleyan
Tom Port (6-5), Wooster
Tori Davis (6-4), Baldwin-Wallace
Kerry Gibson (7-1), UW-Oshkosh
Brandon Adair (6-5), Virginia Wesleyan
Tyler Ousley (6-8), Otterbein
Isaac Rosefelt (6-9), St. Thomas
First off, looks like Q missed Mike Hoyt, D3hoops.com First Team AA, who is definitely on the final roster. You got me momentarily riled up for nothing there Q. Thanks. :P

DIII players axed from the initial list of 96 are: Amir Mazarei (Redlands), Brian Williams (Whitworth), Jacob Nonemacher (my 3-on-3 buddy from UW-Stout), Timothy Broomfield (Miss College), Dane Borches (Witt), Jason Boone (NYU), Sam Betty (Oxy)

Basically that means the number of DIII players that got axed is basically equal to the number that were invited, obviously an unfortunately disproportionate number. And the list of those axed includes three 1st-3rd team DIII hoops All Americans (Mazarei-2nd, Borches-3rd, and Boone-3rd), despite the fact that two fourth team AAs were chosen (Werner, and Ousley)... Oh well...

I've never heard that in the 7 years I've live in Massachusetts.  Must have been written by a New Yorker.

The Elgin Racers are also coached by former EC forward Mike Kies, who played for the BlueJays in the early 90's.

Over in Europe, Chris Martin is currently 2nd in scoring (26.3ppg) with T71 in the Luxembourg league.  His team currently sits at 17-8, one game behind league leading Amicale.

Over the course of middle school/high school/college, I probably did the "Bridge of Death" scene upwards of 10 times in English/Speech/Communications classes...  Quite the classic!

Sager:  What sayeth thou about the founders of Syracuse University?
Once a metalhead, always a metalhead.  Matthew 5:13.

Gregory Sager

Syracuse University was founded in 1870 by the Methodist Episcopal Church, which was the primary Methodist denomination in the northern United States after the Civil War. SU altered its charter and divested itself of its ties to the MEC in 1920, explicitly referring to itself as a nonsectarian institution.

In 1968 the Methodist Episcopal Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren (North Central's founding denomination) to form the United Methodist Church.

+1 Gregory!  You are right!  :)

Most accurately, there was one more merger in there for the Methodist Episcopal Church.  The Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and the Methodist Protestant Church (which broke from the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1830) reunited in 1939.

I heard it quite a bit.  It was a common refrain, along with "Maniac" depending on the license plate after a particularly rude traffic infraction.  Most of the Bay State natives I know consider it a badge of honor.  Masshole pride!

Well, we Methodists certainly thank you for your most magnanimous recognition of our high degree of literacy. I'm not sure the Baptists will be so conciliatory.   :-\

It doesn't matter, they can't read it anyway.

I have, too, but almost exclusively from Connecticut natives. They seem to be New England's version of Wisconsinites, with the denizens of Massachusetts playing the role of us "FIBs".

"Baptists" and "conciliatory" don't belong in the same sentence. :D

Heh -- I've used that term on the highway, in both Connecticut and Massachusetts, if that counts. :)
