Syracuse University was founded in 1870 by the Methodist Episcopal Church, which was the primary Methodist denomination in the northern United States after the Civil War. SU altered its charter and divested itself of its ties to the MEC in 1920, explicitly referring to itself as a nonsectarian institution.

In 1968 the Methodist Episcopal Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren (North Central's founding denomination) to form the United Methodist Church.

+1 Gregory!  You are right!  :)

Most accurately, there was one more merger in there for the Methodist Episcopal Church.  The Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and the Methodist Protestant Church (which broke from the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1830) reunited in 1939.

Good job guys.... maybe eventually you guys will merged enough to the point that you will be a part of the one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church again. :P ;D :D ;)

I don't think that the Evangelical Covenant Church is interested in that big of an influx of newcomers. ;)

Yeah, since that totally existed when the Nicene creed was written.  ::) :P :D ;)

You're clearly unfamiliar with the great church fathers who presided over the First Council of Nicaea: Hosius Cordovastrom, Alexander Alexandriaquist, and Athanasius Gustafson.

Ladies and gentlemen, the end result of too many North Park theology classes. You should have gone to Wheaton, Greg.

Thank you, thank you....  :P ;D 8)

We call the doctrine by which God enables humans to exercise their free will to make the right decisions "prevenient grace". And we call my decision to attend North Park rather than Wheaton "clear evidence of the aforementioned doctrine". ;)

Not sure this is a prophesy on my part but I believe that Mr. Sager has just invited a comment or two from somebody.

Yes, but then you get into the trickier situation of explaining why God allows some people to go to Wheaton when others go to NPU.

A bit of recruiting news...

All-state shooting guard Sean Johnson (6-1) from Washington H.S. has decided to attend Illinois Wesleyan.  I think Sean will be a very good CCIW player.  Here is a feature from the January 29 edition of ILL. Hoops magazine, courtesy of publisher Scott Powers...

(pages 4-7)

This year Johnson really stepped out of the big shadow of teammate Matt Roth (being recruited by Northwestern, ISU, Bradley, SIU, and others). Johnson averaged 18.3 ppg for a team that was ranked #2 in Class AA for a large portion of the year. In his final game, he scored 35 points (20 in the 4th quarter) vs Peoria Richwoods in the sectional championship, almost leading his team back from a huge deficit. He made the 5-man Journal Star All-star team, ahead of at least one Division I recruit (Justin Dehm, Richwoods H.S. - Furman).

Johnson received significant interested from D1 Eastern Illinois and a few other low D1's and several Missouri Valley schools talked to him about walking-on. He was also recruited pretty heavily by a number of D2 schools, including SIU-Edwardsville.

Ron Rose and staff have found a good player here.

A mention of Sean Johnson's decision on Illinois Prep Bulls-Eye...

Sounds good...except the part about IWU being in Normal, Illinois.

We Titan alums take great pride in being a bit south of Normal! ;)

Johnson sounds like a keeper - anyone who can drop 20 in one quarter on my old high school can't be all bad (as long as the Knights still won)!

God allows people to attend Wheaton because He has a since of humor.

knarocky22

God must have a sense of humor, and the joke is on NPU, because He must have used His all-encompassing power to rid all teaching of grammar at North Park.

touche' sir, well played. I seem to have ruined myself here.
