IWU won a pretty fierce recruiting battle for the services of 6-6 all-state center Doug Sexauer of Lockport.  I think this is one of the more significant commitments to the CCIW this year.  I've seen Sexauer play and think he's going to be a really good player at IWU.

IWU's recruiting class is here...

Ron Rose and staff brought in talent and depth at each position, which was much needed.  More than anything, I like the fact that there will be fierce competition for playing time when practice starts next fall.  There is no returning player who is guaranteed playing time -- even returning starters Andrew Gilmore and Darius Gant will have to work very hard to win their jobs back.

I've spoken to the IWU coaching staff enough lately to know they are thrilled with this group of student-athletes that has chosen to come to Wesleyan.

What's interesting about this pickup is that in the second article (from one month ago) only Holy Cross, Wash U, and Augie are mentioned as being in the running.  What you're calling a "fierce recruiting battle" for this guy must really be true and really looks like a last-minute coup on the part of the Titan coaching staff!

Late nite

Good player---I saw him play a few times this season---Very similar game to Brandon Carleton from Augie---A little taller, more finesse but not as physical---A good fit for the IWU system

Sexauer?...Hell, I don't even get a coffee break!

Doug Sexauer a very nice surprise and delight add to an already strong group.  The questions still out there - is IWU done with recruitment yet?  is Q going to hit the jackpot with his longshot recruit? or, will Q & IWU cash out their chips and call it a profitable recruiting year?  I guess we  just - stay tuned!

Coffee break? Gasp, some are just trying to grab some oxygen.  As a Titan fan I felt pretty darn good with the first five annoucements.  The four additional annoucements over the past two days take your breath away.  Add your Augustana announcement  -- I'm really looking forward to reports from the rest of the conference as it has been very quiet for the most part elsewhere within the league. As a CCIW supporter, you really would like to see each team get some good recruits.

I posted IWU's tentative schedule a week or so ago...

For the second time in 3 years, Beloit has backed out of a commitment to play the Titans...not sure what the deal is, but IWU is scrambling to find a game now.

I guess it is the nature of recruitment news, but it sounds like IWU has had an amazing off-season.  When Ron Rose, a high school coach, was hired, the first thing I thought was, "I hope he can recruit." It seems like that question has been answered.  I do not remember a year with so many recruiting stories.  It seems like just Rosenkranz and Sexauer would be a good combo, but there are so many other guys too.  Has Rose recruited a full 12-man roster?  Obviously, this question cannot be fully answered for four years, but how good is this recruiting class?

And my favorite thing about reading these stories is that most of the kids are quoted as citing two things as major factors in their decision - 1. academics and 2. fan-support.  That makes me think these are not just good players, but good people too.

In reply to mactitan's question 'how good are these guys?', I would say where else can you find a Division 3 school with 3 kids who have earned Illinois ClassAA or ClassA all-state recognition?  And, I believe, the majority of the class have enjoyed significant tournament success;  i believe there are two state champs, three Elite 8, and one Sweet Sixteen level kids in this group.  It will really be interesting to see which kids, if any, crack the starting line-up by the time CCIW conference play begins.
