AndOne---Good information---There is talk that Augie may try to enter a team in this league---Don't know where they will get their players from---Maybe have to import them from the Q-C area for this competition

Another Chicagoland college summer league, which will begin play on Thurs, 6/14, is the Joy of The Game Summer League. This league, which is widely referred to as the "Deefield League" is held at the Joy Of The Game facility in Deerfield. Last season this league featured teams from North Central, North Park, Lawrence WI U, U of Chicago, Wash (St. Louis) U, as well as other teams that featured a collection of players from several schools. I know Elmhurst was not in this league last summer, but will be this season.

With all the incoming players from the Chicago area plus some returnees, it will be interesting to see if IWU fields a team this year. They are not playing in Des Plaines.

Last season, the Des Plaines league was better. This year, it looks like Deerfield will probably feature the higher level of competition.

marcericson I heard that was in the works for months and I was told that Juanita owns a condo downtown that she will use for her sons address.

I wonder if this is the beginning of the end for the Des Plaines league.  Originally, we heard that Augie wouldn't be in that league because they didn't have enough Chicago area players.  Now they are considering competing in a league that is probably a half hour further away from the Quad Cities.  I wonder how these decisions are made.

A group of IWU's returning and incoming players are on a team up in the suburbs, but I'm not sure where.  I believe it includes Brett Chamernik, Elias Washington, Sean Dwyer (if healthy), Duncan Lawson, Doug Sexauer, Edmond O'Callaghan, and Chris Stamas.

The guys who stay around B-N end up playing against the Illinois State players on a pretty regular basis throughout the summer.

It could very well be the Deerfield League. We really won't know until 6/14. As prev indicated, the games are played at the Joy Of The Game building. Many suburban players play for the various Joy of the Game teams, and I would guess just about all of the top players in the area at least know of the JOTG program.
Accordingly. it makes sense that the local IWU players would gravitate to this league.

Another possibility is a league which I believe plays at an old armory on the north side of Chicago. I think this league has been around for awhile and features several Chi area DI players. To get to this section of the city from the western burbs at rush hour would be a horrific drive.

The only other possibility I'm aware of would be a league run by the Bulls-Sox Academy in Lisle. Hopefully IWU won't be wasting their time there as its not a good league. NCC had a team there 2 yrs ago mainly because the location is 5 minutes from campus. Most of the teams were recreational type teams comprised of out of shape 30 yr olds. There were only 2 teams besides NCC that were competitive. One was a team comprised of players from Lithuania, some of whom had played in the Olympics. The other was a team made up mainly of the Bulls Academy coaches, most of whom had played in Europe following their college graduations. This team featured an awesome 7'2" former player from Stevens Point who was about 32-33 yrs old as well as Antonio Davis (yes--THAT Antonio Davis), and which beat NCC by 4 in OT for the league championship.
North Central dropped out of this league to enter the Deerfield league last summer.

Thank u, Late.

As Augie is not in the Des Plaines league this season, it will be interesting to see if they enter a team in Deerfield. If so, it will certainly strengthen the league. However, from previous discussion here, I thought the problem is that Augie no longer has enough players from the Chicago area. Is that not correct?

AndOne,
Nice meeting you last week,I hope to make it to most of the games health permitting. Is the Deerfield league at the old Bulls practice facility? I am looking foward to watching the games there also.
I'd really like to agree with you,but then we both would be wrong........

The "Deerfield League" games take place at the Joy Of The Game building which is located at 158 S. Waukegan Rd in Deerfield. Phone # 847-498-6646.

The building is a little hard to find as its located BEHIND the Deerbrook Mall Shopping Center. The easiest way to find it is to enter the shopping center at the entrance in front of Bally's Fitness Center and follow that road behind the center where you will veer a little to the right. The JOTG building will then be on your left.

There was talk of sending some players from the Quad Cities to Deerfield each week because the competition is much better than Des Plaines and will give them the opportunity to play against some quality in-region teams---They have dominated the summer league at Carver the past few years and will have another outstanding crop of players in the Q-C area, so seeking better competition could be the only reason for the decision---I don't know if it will happen

A month ago, Hakeem Olajuwon worked with Yao Ming on a move Olajuwon called "the Jack Sikma." Yao could soon be learning from the originator.

Sikma is close to becoming the second member of Rick Adelman's Rockets coaching staff, an NBA official said Tuesday. Sikma would join Elston Turner, who said last week he would join Adelman with the Rockets.

RECRUITING NEWS----------

With confirmation of his enrollment, North Central is announcing that Dan Schacht has transferred from Kishwaukee Junior College, and will be continuing his academic and athletic career at NCC where he will be a member of the 2007-2008 Cardinal basketball team. At NCC, Dan will be reunited with his HS teammate, Matt Rogers.

Dan played his high school ball at Rochelle, IL HS, where, in his senior year, he was instrumental in helping the Hubs reach the sectional finals. Following his graduation, he was recruited by most CCIW schools, several other regional NCAA DIII schools, and some NAIA DI and DII institutions. While the owner of an outstanding record from a statistical perspective, recruiters were perhaps most impressed not only with his overall game, but with his determination, heart, and hustle. Despite his heavy recruitment by 4 year colleges/universities, he chose to attend Kishwaukee due largely to family considerations.

While at Kish, Dan, a 6'3" combo guard, averaged 12.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.6 apg, and hit 44% of his shots from the field, including 41% of his 3 point attempts. He was the Region IV player of the week, and was voted Kishwaukee Male Athlete of the Year.

With his overall versitility, Dan could see time at either backcourt spot or at the 3 at such time as the Cardinals may wish to go "small." He will make a significant contribution, and is an outstanding addition to the Cardinal basketball family.

Augie has announced their schedule for the 2007-08 season. Very challenging, with a road game at Wash U. who finished third in last year's national tournament and games against last year's top three teams from the WIAC.
