Q------

Perhaps the source of the info about Dwyer was referring to the fact that he is still recovering from the 2nd injury last season, rather than having sustained a brand new, or 3rd foot injury. During our conversation, one of the people I was talking to about Dan then stated "and Sean Dwyer hurt his foot "again" and won't be able to play for awhile. I took "again" to mean something new rather than the fact he still hasn't made a complete recovery from last year's 2nd injury. I didn't question them further as I was just leaving.

Also-----you said Dwyer is a big part of the upcoming season's plans. However, won't his part be as a reserve, as I would surmise the Titans starting guards this season will be Gilmore and Rosenkranz.

I did confirm today that Sean Dwyer has not suffered another injury...he's just still rehabbing from that second break.

While my guess is that Travis Rosenkranz will be IWU's starting PG - I think Rosenkranz has superstar potential - I'm confident that a healthy Sean Dwyer would make it quite a battle.  Dwyer is a very smart kid, a leader, and incredibly strong -- one of the best put together freshman perimeter players I've seen in a Titan uniform.  Whether Dwyer wins the job or is the backup PG, I think he factors into IWU's plans in a big way (again, if healthy).  After watching a season in which IWU really did not have a pure PG once Dwyer went down on opening weekend, I am all for having two really good point-guards, that's for sure.

Thanks for clearing that up Q, and for the additional info.

It sounds like if Dwyer (the incumbent) makes a full recovery and is able to play to his full capability, but Rosenkranz (the newcomer)  starts, there is a high degree of possibility that there will be some discord and negative chemistry within the ranks?

How can a guy who played in two games total - both off the bench - the entire season be considered the incumbent?

Sean Dwyer is about the last player I can think of who would cause negative chemistry, regardless of his role.

Even though, we are kind of off the subject now... but about Lori Kerans.... She is an awful AD.  Her sport was the only sport at Millikin over .500!! Kind of ironic.  Shows alot about her leadership and care for the whole athletic department with those kind of results in the entire school.   Also.. that is pretty respectable to be national champions but I have a huge problem with that! Lori loves to take all the credit!! ALL the credit!! But if we look back at that season, luckily for Lori, one of the forwards broke her leg.  Lindsay Ippel had not even played but 5 minutes a game if that.  Wierd!! Then, she was the national tournment player of the year. Lori would have never played her and she was questioning transferring or not playing.  Also, they had all five starters back and got fifth in the league the next year. Didnt even make the conference tournament.  My honest to God belief is that Tim Littrell was fired because of the fear that in the next two years, with his last recruiting class and the recruiting class he was going to have this coming year, a different team at Millikin could have had a better record than the womens team.  She did everything to keep the womens basketball team at the top at Millikin.  This time it meant firing someone who had spent the last 32 years representing Millikin in the best ways that anyone can. Very ironic!!  I also know that Travis had not ruled out Millikin 100% like someone had said in an earlier post.  His choice was between MU and IWu and when Lit was fired, his decision was made!!

I think it was Titan Q that said Rosenkranz would not have gone to Millikin even if Coach Littrell had not been fired because he wanted to major in pre-med.

It would be interesting to hear the basis for the opinions of both Hoops and Titan Q

Also----Can't you major in pre-med at Millikin???

No, what I said was, "Based on his pre-med plans, Millikin was not the fit that IWU and Chicago were."  Millikin may have a pre-med program, but Illinois Wesleyan has an outstanding program -- one of the most highly regarded around (and U. of Chicago's program is obviously elite).   Travis is an outstanding student - a class valedictorian - and IWU and Chicago have much better programs in the field he wants to study.

I was told by someone very, very close to Travis Rosenkranz in about mid-January that "he is not going to Millikin...he just has no idea how he is going to tell Tim Littrell that."  There was even some thought that it would be so hard that he would never be able to tell him was going to conference rival Illinois Wesleyan.  What Tim Littrell's firing did was make his decision between IWU and U. of Chicago much easier.

So, Q, regardless of the merits (or lack thereof) of hoops2007's attack on Lori Kerans, does this mean that all Titan fans, and those of us who favor ANY CCIW school over 'aliens', owe her a debt of gratitude for assuring that Travis was not lost to the Maroons? ;) ;D

I've been accused of (and readily admit to) getting carried away with rose-colored (green-colored?) enthusiasm, but based on the scouting reports and high school records, I honestly think BOTH Dwyer and Rosenkranz have Adam Dauksas-level potential (with the operative word being POTENTIAL).  I'll have the honor of seeing their first game(s) this year in Albion (if the Saturday game is head-to-head versus Michigan-Ohio State football, I've got a tough decision!).  I'll provide an early report, though I imagine most will want a few more games before coming to my defense and/or castigation party.  Anyone else planning to be in Albion?

Chuck, Adam Dauksas was a 1st-Team All-American...I sure wouldn't put that on either one of those two at this point.

Who knows how it would have turned out.  I do know Travis and his entire family really liked IWU and Ron Rose from the beginning.  He also developed a very close relationship with assistant coach Chad Hutson during the long recruiting process.  I think in the end he would have selected IWU based on things I have heard, but without question he liked U. of Chicago and the bright lights of the big city...and Tim Littrell's firing was a factor in everything.

Bob, I'm aware of what Adam accomplished, and as a 'Voice of the Titans' you are quite correct in not putting that sort of pressure on them (and I knew you wouldn't).  Fortunately, I am a 'nobody' from 400 miles away.  No pressure!

I still believe they have that sort of POTENTIAL, but it will be many games (perhaps even 2-3 seasons) before we know for sure.

Will you be in Albion, or don't they grant you non-conference out-of-state travel?

BTW, great news about Nussbaum - I was extremely impressed by him in the jv game way back when.  I'm rooting for some solid contributions after all his misfortunes.

I may be way behind the times here because I don't check the CCIW board too often, but over on the NathCon board, someone posted that North Central will be getting Lakeland College transfer Matt Rogers this year.  The guy is really good.  North Central will really benefit from Rogers' talents.  He was Rookie of the Year in the old Lake Michigan Conference and also was an All-Conference selection this past year in the NathCon.

RECRUITING NEWS-----------------

North Central has received confirmation of, and is announcing that Matt Rogers will transfer from Lakeland College in Sheboygan, WI to North Central where he will be a member of the 2007-2008 Cardinal basketball team.

Rogers played his high school ball at Rochelle, IL HS. In his senior year, he was instrumental in helping Rochelle reach the Sectional finals and was later selected as an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-Star along with current Cardinal sophomore, Chris Drennan.

Following the 2005-2006 season he was named the Freshman of the Year in the former Lake Michigan Conference. For 2006-07, he led Lakeland in scoring at 18.5 ppg on 53% shooting from the field. His 18.5 average within the conference placed him 3rd in scoring in conference only games in the Northern Athletic Conference which Lakeland is now a part of. Overall for the year, he averaged 19.7 ppg ranking him 2nd in scoring for the entire season. These scoring averages were achieved despite his only averaging 22.8 minutes a contest due to Lakeland's using several players in their rotation.

Besides shooting 53% from the field, Matt hit 36% of his 3 point attempts, and shot 145 of 199 or 73% from the line. He also contributed 5.5 RPG.

Matt will make an outstanding addition to the Cardinal program.

As you can see Old----Notification of Matt's transfer was posted here in the CCIW room back on May 10th.

I'm sure Matt would be grateful for your verification of his abilities, and on his behalf, thank you.

Good to hear Brian Nussbaum will finally get an opportunity to play. Augie went after him real hard, but as happens so often IWU beat us out in a head to head recruiting battle. In any event good luck to Brian. Just hope he takes it easy on Augie during your return to the court. 8)

FINAL RESULTS IN THE DES PLAINES SUMMER LEAGUE

Playoff action:

1. North Central defeated Xavier U
2. Bulls (Loras alums) defeated JJ's
3. Redmen X's (Carthage alums) defeated Bulls
4. Shoopdogs (D2 Lewis U) defeated North Central
5. Shoopdogs defeated Redmen X-Ballers (Title)

Final Standings (including playoffs):

1. Shoopdogs 11-1
2, Redmen X-Ballers 10-2
3. North Central 9-3

North Central was the only team to beat D2 Lewis (Shoopdogs), and was the top finishing "regular" or current D3 team.
Fellow CCIW member Carthage had 2 teams of current players in the league.
Carthage Black (Carthage starters & top subs) finished 5-5. Carthage Red (JV players) finished 3-7. Elmhurst had an alumni team (2-8) in the league, but not a team of current players. Augie, who has been in the league the last couple of years, did not field a team here this year--likely due to not enough players from the Chicago area.

FYI  NPU's football preview has been posted on the school's website.  All-Conference center, Anthony Lenoir, is listed as someone competing for the tight end spot.

I thought Lenoir was listed on last season's basketball roster as a SENIOR. Is he a 5th year senior with eligibility remaining???

Two straight CCIW championships and three in five years. Coach G is sure doin' a great job with all the crappy leftovers that IWU leaves him. ::)

He doesn't have an eligibility left for basketball, but I believe he would be eligible to play another sport -- I think he would be considered a first-year football player for matters of eligibility.
