Good to hear Brian Nussbaum will finally get an opportunity to play. Augie went after him real hard, but as happens so often IWU beat us out in a head to head recruiting battle. In any event good luck to Brian. Just hope he takes it easy on Augie during your return to the court. 8)

Two straight CCIW championships and three in five years. Coach G is sure doin' a great job with all the crappy leftovers that IWU leaves him. ::)

Nominee:  Best comeback of the summer.  +k, Dan.

When we graduate a first-team All-American off a team that STILL had the worst Titan season in CCIW history, even my green-tinted brain cells are finding it hard to be very optimistic about this season (which is NOT to be confused with throwing in the towel!).  But I sure do like the resumes of our recruiting class, and I watched up close when the Fab Five took the Wolverines to a national second-place finish with five freshmen on the floor, so maybe they (plus Gilmore, Dwyer, Nussbaum, etc.) can shock everyone!  (I doubt it, but on the other hand I'm pretty confident they won't go pro early, or destroy the program for the next decade with NCAA sanctions!)

Lake Forest finished 5-4 which was good for 4th place (of 9) in Pool A.
The playoffs began last night. They continue next Tues & Thurs, but I do not have the schedule yet.

FYI  NPU's football preview has been posted on the school's website.  All-Conference center, Anthony Lenoir, is listed as someone competing for the tight end spot.

I thought Lenoir was listed on last season's basketball roster as a SENIOR. Is he a 5th year senior with eligibility remaining???
He doesn't have an eligibility left for basketball, but I believe he would be eligible to play another sport -- I think he would be considered a first-year football player for matters of eligibility.

wheaton's Jordan Kemper is playing for his second straight year on the football team as a grad student. he finished his basketball eligibility in the 05/06 year. He will be a tight end for the Thunder. He is a good one too.

I thought you were limited to five years total?  It doesn't make sense that you can do four years in one sports and then four in another.

That is the rule, indeed. He does not also get four years of football eligibility afterward.

Thanks for tracking the summer league standings in Deerfield and Des Plaines, AO. This off-season we've talked more about summer league than we ever have before on CCIW Chat. It's made for an abrupt change of pace from previous summers in which CCIW Chat topics have resembled the full spread of categories on a Jeopardy! board ... for better or worse. :D

Pool A in the Deerfield Summer league was won by the Crazy 8s. (8-1). This is a "collective" team of kids from several different schools. It could even be a team of graduates from the same school or several different schools.

There was a 1st place tie in Pool B between Dominican and Lawrence. Both finished with 8-1 records.

FYI

The Deerfield league is still going on this week.  There are games tonight which I believe is the final 4, and im pretty sure the championship game is on Thursday.

AndOne

Tonight's 4 games are quarterfinals at 8:00 and 9:10. I am not sure who is playing as I don't have all the results from last Thurs.

The championship semifinal games are at 7:00 Thurs. The consolation championship semifinals are at  8:10. Both the consolation game final and championship game final are at 9:20.
