deserves our applause for watching 12 DIII teams in the first weekend.

Thank you, but to be perfectly honest opening weekend is sort of a holiday for me. Baseball aficionados often make a big deal out of opening day in baseball; I do the same for opening weekend in D3 basketball. I plan it out well in advance and make sure that I have my schedule cleared for the weekend. After months and months of deprivation, it's just nice to be in a gym and hear the bounce of a ball on a wooden floor and the squeak of sneakers (and the howls of an irate mother angered that a ref has dared to call a foul on her baby boy ;)). Yeah, you can get your hoops fix watching summer leagues and preseason scrimmages ... but knowing that it counts really makes it all feel different somehow when the third weekend in November rolls around.

I couldn't agree more.  Plus, as wonderful a day as (baseball's) Opening Day is, you're limited to one game in person unless you're very fortunate.  But hoops, especially in a hoops-rich place like Chicagoland, offers many possibilities.  Why, even here in rural Ohio I've been to eight games already, and will have been to 15 by the end of this weekend.  Woo hoo!

Congrats to Steve Djurickovic on being named CCIW player of the week. Quite the start to what promises to be a great career at Carthage.

REDMENFAN

On a side note, former all conference performer Kyle Jeffrey had a rough debut with UW-Parkside (2 miles from Carthage) over the weekend. He played 8 minutes, had 0 points, and fouled out.  His second game was much better as he had 15 points, including three 3-pointers.  Both nights he was the first player off the bench, and is playing the 5 for the Rangers.

AO---I truly enjoy the verbal volleyball that goes on between us---It energizes me and keeps me on my toes---You have proved my point with your story---The personality in compettion doesn't always define the man---You were defensive about Simmons because you had a personal relationship with him where he showed you his personality away from competition---The poster who referred to him as a "head case" did not---That was the only difference---You were closer to the situation

One of the great things about CCIW Chat is that we always have posters who are familiar with the backgrounds and personalities of the players and coaches involved in this league. I think that it makes this room a better one than most, because the insight is usually a little more in-depth (and the disagreements thus sharper, because you have to be prepared and on your toes if you post a judgment here) than what you tend to get in other rooms.

Indeed Greg!

However, you also unfortunately have people who, even though they aren't as familiar with either a player's background or his personality, still insist on playing petty games when they see anything they consider even slightly negative towards
anyone on their favorite team. They see something they don't like or something they perceive as negative---even though the poster has cited specific instances of what he is talking about, or has backed up his opinion with other evidence---and, acting like the coward they are, they sneak on line in the middle of the night or early in the morning, only to smite you. They don't have the balls to state what they disagree with, or the intelligence or knowledge to support their opinion. They just click on "smite" and quietly slink back into their hole.

While I sometimes disagree with Late, I respect the fact that he is always willing to state his opinion, and offer reasons he feels support his position. If you don't like what I say, sign on and tell me why. Be man (or woman) enough to tell me and show me where and why I'm wrong. If I say something stupid or derogatory with no reason offereed to support what I'm saying, then go ahead and zap me. But if you just disagree, tell me and show mw where I'm wrong. We all make mistakes. If I have something wrong, I'd be glad to have it pointed out and to learn why I'm wrong.  The whole idea here is to get differing opinions out, to educate, and to learn. If you have a brain and an opinion, lets hear it.

On a special note to tj----lighten up!! My notation about "when you're talking player analysis.........."  was NOT me saying I know more than anyone else. It was a humorous jab at Late. I think he realized that, and any poster who really knows me would know that.  Its curious why you were so bent out of shape when the remark wasn't even directed toward you. I DON'T know it all so if you know more than me about something, help me out. Thanks!

AndOne,
Quick question for you I heard Brandon Smith transfered to Quincy but I didn't see him listed on the roster what happened  ??? ??? he had a good thing going at NCC ??? ??? You are right ,you don't know everything but damn close ;D ;D

  Greg ,
It was nice to meet you on Friday night, I'm still on pain meds from the shoulder and I thought AndOne was introducing me to a parent of the players and when he said your name it didn't register at first sorry. Better living thru chemistry ::) ::).
I'd really like to agree with you,but then we both would be wrong........

AndOne... I was bent out of shape because you're always so unwilling to bend, and so cocky, whether you're joking or not, it gets really old.  That "jab" at Late wasn't so obvious a joke considering the way you normally post.  I'm not claiming to be someone who has expert analysis, I just would love it if no one here claimed to be the ultimate authority (even Greg doesn't claim that), which is what you were doing ("jokingly")

Brandon Smith is at Missouri Southern in Joplin. Transferring from D3 to D2, I think he has to sit this year.

Brandon Smith wound up at Missouri Southern in the metropolis of Joplin, Missouri.
Originally a junior college, it only became a 4 year institution in 1968.

So far this season in 2 games, Brandon has played a total of 4 minutes and has scored 2 points. I hope he is very happy.

Like Dansand, I thought he would have to sit out a year, but apparently, this is not the case.

I checked out their site and noticed they just landed a recruit that a lot of the area small colleges were after...

1. If you would bother to read the vast majority of my posts, you will see I'm the 1st to admit it when I'm wrong. However, I must be right some of the time, because some of the people who know more than almost everyone on here frequently agree with me.
You can look it up.

2. My comments were directed to Late, who I believe took them in the manner which they were intended (not seriously). You said my intent "wasn't obvious."
Ever think to ask me how I meant it before spouting off?

3. If my posts get really old to you, ignore them. Or better yet, try providing some useful information of your own.

4. As far as being "unwilling to bend" its called having a backbone and supporting your position either through history, observation, or source information. You should try it You might like it.

5. I'm far from the expert here. Almost every day I learn something interesting and useful from the many knowledgeable and informed posters here.

Moving right along.....any calls on the Thunder vs the Duhawks tonight in Dubuque.
I think this is the best small college game in Midwest tonight!  Loras is under much pressure to win at their new home court and the Raymond Express would like to make a whistle stop in Dubuque!  I say the Duhawks come from behind to win by 4!
I wish I were there.

Coe, I am very interested in the Wheaton/Loras game.  Loras was 15-1 in the IIAC last year, but it's hard to really gauge how good they were.  Out of the conference, the Duhawks lost to UW-Platteville at home by 8, @ North Park by 18, at Aurora by 21, and at St. John's in the tournament by 3 in OT.  Their best non-conference win was probably over a so-so Hanover team by 6 on a neutral court (a team the struggling IWU Titans beat by 19 at Hanover).  Is the IIAC just weak, or did Loras improve substantially after the non-conference season?

I had Loras #23 in my D3Hoops.com preseason Top 25 ballot because they returned so much from last year's 21-7 team, but their 84-71 home loss to NAIA Clarke Friday had me wondering if I made a mistake there.  I saw Clarke just one year ago and they were awful.

I'm interested to see if Loras can play with Wheaton -- if they are a true Top 25 candidate, they shouldn't get blown out by the Thunder.

I have Raymond for 31 points in a 6 point Wheaton win.

AndOne, I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree.  Its just comes down to hermeneutics.
