What has happened here? Could this be the same Andy Wiele?

I hardly recognized him, the young man has certainly put his time in the weight room.

brings to mind the famous quote uttered by lattimer: "place at the table!!"

(though i don't mean any insinuations at all for these CCIW boys. they've obviously worked hard...it's simply a weak attempt at humor.)

FYI...Brent Ruch's last name is pronounced as Rook...

Elmhurst plays Alma today at home.  This will be a good test as this game never brings much of a crowd to the stands, and Elmhurst always struggles to play a complete game against them.  It can be a challenge to get pumped up for these types of games.  Last year Elmhurst outscored them 43-17 in the first half then was outscored by 18 in the second.  Ruch should destroy them in the post, and hopefully Burks can get back on track.  It will be another test for the inexperienced pg position.  If Alma has done their homework that is something they will look to attack.

When I saw EC, they were starting Chris Childs at PG. I don't know if this is still the case, but when I saw him, he looked a little lost out there. Thats understandable as he came to EC as a 2 guard which is where he played last year when he got into games. When he played the 2 last year, he shot well (48% overall & 51% on 3 pointers). This year, it seems the pressures of learning the point have also affected his shooting which currently stands at 17% overall and 13% on threes!!!  :o   :o   :o

Webster University of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) visits the Shirk Center tonight as the Titans get back to action after a 6-day layoff. The Gorlocks were co-champs of the SLIAC last year, finishing 10-4 in conference play (16-10 overall). This year they're 2-2, beginning the year with solid home wins over Midwest region teams Transylvania and Hanover, before falling twice in their own tournament last weekend -- 65-50 to UW-Platteville and 85-64 to Augustana.

Webster features returning 1st Team All-SLIAC performer Darrin Hoggatt (18.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg in '06-07), a 6-6 center from Fordland, Missouri. 6-8 Corey Kuhn (10.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg in '06-07) is also back. Both are off to a slow start this year, with Hoggatt averaging 9.3 points and Kuhn just 2.8. The Gorlocks are led in scoring by 5-9 junior guard Ryan Turk (11.3 ppg) and 6-6 senior Brad Robinson (10.3 ppg).

Like Dominican, this is a another veteran team with good balance that should be right in the middle of the title picture in a weak league. It should be another perfect test for the young Titans and a game they should win if they play well, but will lose if they don't.

Webster starts a Niebrugge from T-Town (Luke) and a "Corey Kuhn." Those two names should bring back fond memories for Titan fans. Brent Niebrugge ('98) and Korey Coon ('00) -- two former CCIW M.O.P's and starters on IWU's national title team. I hope Luke and Corey don't find the Shirk quite as welcoming!

Ron Rose inserted freshman Travis Rosenkranz, who missed the entire practice season with a stress fracture in his back, into the starting lineup for the Dominican game, so the Titans now go:

Travis Rosenkranz (6-0/175, Fr.)
Sean Johnson (6-1/175, Fr.)
Jordan Morris (6-3/195, Jr.)
Darius Gant (6-4/210, Sr.)
Brett Chamernik (6-5/230, Jr.)

The bench is (in order of minutes played):

Matt Schick (6-4/190, Fr.)
Doug Sexauer (6-7/210, Fr.)
Edmond O'Callagan (6-7/210, Fr.)
Andrew Gilmore (6-3/185, Jr.)
Duncan Lawson (6-8/225, Fr.)

So basically, it's a 10-man rotation right now that includes 6 freshmen.  Andrew Gilmore is doubtful for tonight (knees) and could be replaced in the rotation by 6-5 freshman Josh Sutton.  Gilmore's knee situation is tough -- I'm not sure he is even going to be 80% at any point this season.

AndOne, Childs may have came into Elmhurst as a 2, but when he got into games last year it was backing up Brian Lee at the pg position.  I agree about him looking lost.  He has alot of pressure on his shoulders.  He got the most tick last year as a freshman and therefore is the go to guy right now.  Im guessing thats part of reason that he shot so well last year and is down right now.  Last year Brian Lee was the main floor general which allowed Childs to have a lot less pressure on him, allowing him to shoot the ball very well.  Now that he is the man running the show, im sure he has a couple more things running threw his mind that are affecting his shot.

Wow, that surprises me a little -- Springfield to Fontbonne's campus is just 100 miles or so.  They must really expect some bad stuff early today.  Makes me wonder about Webster's trip to Bloomington (about 175 miles).

I have no highway report -- my only weather report from this morning is that running 4 miles outside when it's 27 degrees w/ 18 MPH winds and a few sprinkles in the air is one of the dumbest things I've done in years (and I've done plenty of dumb things in that span).

GEESSH  60 and sunny here in St Louis!!!!   Nah just kidding.

TQ - hopefully Webster and IWU get their game in - anxious to see a result, should be interesting for you to get a comparison vs Augie, whom Webster played reasonably tough for 30 minutes before succumbing and losing by 20.  Hoping Websters Hoggit can keep out of foul trouble and continue the offense that he showed vs Augie, also watch out for Turk, a very streaky shooter.  Otherwise, it's pretty much a cast of thousands - rotating 8 or 9 other guys, all play hard, more college experience than IWU's fresh faces  - might be a decent game  (for SLIAC egos, I hope it's a decent game)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Oh, I expect it to be a very good game, hopefan.  I kind of have a feeling one of IWU's freshmen guards is going to have a big game -- either Rosenkranz of Johnson.  We'll see.

Here is the Augie/Webster box...

Augie led by 7 at halftime and 12 with 10 to play...then the Vikings pulled away for good.

Q, it's 60's and 70's here in SoCal, so if you do make it out for the winter trip, be sure to go run the loop around the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.  It's a good run.  Pretty flat.  A friendly crowd.  And it's only 10 minutes from Oxy.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

I'm locked in for the L.A. trip, dd...looking forward to it!
