I do the Color for the Bluejay's basketball games and it is pronounced "Rook" , however the Ruchs are such sweet people they don't really "react" if you miss pronounce the name.  Very genuine family with good hearts.
The absence of a strong point guard is really what made life difficult for EC vs. UW-Oshkosh.  I think with a Pat Bacon, or somebody confident with the ball and smart with good vision, would have helped Elmhurst pull away from the Titans.

Elmhurst (for some reason) has never played Alma in a "complete" game.  Complete, meaning they have stayed consistent from the tip off to the final buzzer.  In the 2 games I have called over the air vs. Alma, there have been "gaps" that have cost Elmhurst both in the final score and point differential.
Having said this:  I think a steady diet of Ruch inside is going to down the Scots tonight.
I know Hope is a great team, but I have to admit I was surprised to see Wheaton get hammered that bad.
Safe travels to all as the forecasts show that the storm is going to hit right around the time(s) people are going to be traveling to their respective games.  As of 12:10pm, the EC/Alma game is on as scheduled.

Mr. Ypsi

Thanks, bluejay - I figured you'd finally weigh in on pronouncing Ruch! ;D

So do you need to straighten out the PA announcer, or is the sound system so bad that Greg heard Ruck instead of Rook? ;)

The guy who does play-by-play for basketball is a Freshman and is just learning the ropes, so I would say just to cut the young pup a little slack.  We (some of the veterans at EC) are helping to groom him up so by the time next year rolls around he will be conditioned.  He is doing a nice job and will continue to get better.  The important thing is that he provides a keen interest and energy into his play-by-play offering, which is great.

79J:  I don't think many people in Calvin's fieldhouse last night expected to see that game either.  It was one of those strange sort of combination of ingredients type games.  Weile gets hurt, and Hope played great D plus refs allowed physical game.   I am pretty sure Wheaton will recover (to more typical play) this afternoon, but not sure they have enough answers for Calvin inside.

I know I am little late on the Duaksas discussion, but I would have to agree with you that he was an excellent point guard.  I was able to see him once at IWU for the Tourney game vs. Maryville of St. Louis about 3-4 years ago.  I assume that he had a chance to play at the lower DI level, perhaps a Bradley?  I know IWU has landed a fair amount of players in the past that drew mid-major DI interest, so it would not surprise me.  I guess with a tradition that rivals many lower level DI programs, it an not a extremely difficult sell, not to mention the opportunity that a player of this caliber would have to step in and play at the outset and compete for a national title.

Being a SLIAC fan, it was an awesome opportunity to see what IWU has to offer.  Packed house full of green, and also the kids lined up around half-court for pre-game introductions.  I only long for the day that Webster or any SLIAC team has that kind of pride and tradition.

I am looking forward to the game tonight and know that it will be a tough one for my Gorloks to pull it out.  All I can ask is that they give themselves a chance to win.

Bunch, Adam had a full-ride to Division II St. Joe's (Indiana) and a Division I offer from Chicago State.  The biggest D1 to express significant interest was Illinois-Chicago, a pretty good program.

Maryville played the Titans very tough in that game at the Shirk Center - they were a good team.

Links below for radio coverage of the game tonight and live stats.  I expect a good game.

FU v. RMC-S has been cancelled because of "dangerous driving conditions", that's a quote from IL. Highway Patrol. Is IWU v. WU still definatelly "ON". IF so I hope WU is currently on the road. Safe travels to all of you up north.

Final from Calvin College:

Hope 85
Carthage 75

Freshman Steve Djurickovic had 22 points and got to the line 10 more times, making 9.  If he keeps this up he is going to set some CCIW FT records in his career.  The CCIW record for FT made in a season is 135 (Drew Carstens, 2002).  The record for FT made in a career is 324 (Dave Shaw, Carroll, '74-77).  Those records are for CCIW games only.

Looking at the Carthage record book, the Red Men record for FT attempts in a season is 267 (Bill Kadlecik, 1958)...FT made is 190 (Jack Lutz, 1967).  Little Bosko is 46-55 through just 5 games.
