For clarification the Augie website shows Keaton Frye with 18 points, but Dansand and the crack Augie broadcasting team kept referring to Mike Avallone as the big scorer. Given that Frye has been hurt, the website must be wrong. Dansand knows his Vikings and wouldn't make a mistake like that. Too bad Keaton isn't healthy enough to have scored 18.

Cool. Someone's listening. It was indeed Avallone. As a matter of fact, although he was wearing #32, he was apparently listed as #24 in the score book, resulting in a technical foul when he entered the game.

Nice win for Augie. Not dominant by any means, but given the circumstances, a very satisfying win. Cornell was freakin' unconscious for 27 minutes. Despite having no inside presence whatsoever, they hit 69% in the first half (6-7 behind the arc). Then they hit 7 of their first 8 shots in the second half. At that point they were 18 of 24 (75%) from the field and 7 of 8 behind the arc for the game. Fortunately, they only hit 3 of their last 22 (1-11 from long range) the rest of the way as Augie pulled away.

Avallone, as augiefan said, had a big game. It's probably not realistic to think he'll light it up like that every game, but he's not shy and it's nice to know he gives them another option offensively. He played a terrific all-around game with 18 points, five boards and only one turnover in 21 minutes. Jeff Becker also provided a nice lift offensively with seven first half points.

Swetalla, Washington, Pelton, Wessels and Collins were all solid again, although Brett and Chandlor struggled a little offensively. The Vikes will have a huge test Saturday at Oshkosh.

Late nite

As I have said in the past, Becker, Avallone and Waller will have to play to give them a threat from the outside---The inside game is much too inconsistent---Cornell was another example of a team that can give Augie fits---Spread the floor, force bigs to guard littles, penetrate and hit the 3---They just ran out of gas at the end---The Vikes will be a very ordinary team if opponents take away their long range shooting---They have been able to depend on their defense in the past, but that has also been inconsistent---The next 3 games will prepare the Vikes more than any other team for the CCIW conference season---Tough tests to find out if they are really a top 10 team

Setting aside Northern and Wash U, Vikings have played their usual non-conference cream puffs.

I've just read the Mitchell Report and it implicates Greg Sager.  All this time we just assumed he had an extraordinary vocabulary, impeccable sentence structure, and superhuman debate skills.

Disappointing.

Late nite

Northern and Wash U were not very good measuring sticks either---NIU may be one of the worst D1 teams in the country and Wash U has proved to be a team in transition and searching for their own identity---My comments were toward the next 3 games---@ Oshkosh, @ Wartburg and home vs Stevens Point---The schedule just got a whole lot tougher---Find me a team in the conference that will be playing that type of schedule leading up to league play---Augie hasn't ducked anybody this year---

There are some posters on the SLIAC, MIAC, and no doubt other boards, who will run with this at face value! ;D

augiefan

Actually this is a much tougher nonconference schedule than Augie has played in recent years. Three WIAC opponents plus Wash U. make their noncoference schedule as tough as anyone else's in the CCIW this year.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I would generally agree with you although some might make a case for one or two other CCIW teams.  I would also agree with Late Nite "...The schedule just got a whole lot tougher..." particularly in view of Delp's injury.  I think the win over Cornell, always a fiesty team, could be viewed as a "quality" win in the context of Delp's injury.  I think it might be a good 'confidence' win for Augie as their next three contests could prove out to be a pivotal milestone for the Vikings.

Wire News Flash - Various wire services are reporting D3Sports.com will launch an online dictionary, thesaurus and spell checker in response in increasing use of HGH (Humongous Grammatical Hyperbole).  The online services will include clarification by one its Hall of Famers of commonly, often loosely misused terms, by some of its inexperienced posters, namely: non-conference, pre-season, conference and post-season among others.  Reports say the site hopes these 'point and click tools' will reduce the bombastic, verbosity of lengthy posts (like this one?)which consume database space and structures.

I'm here, Dennis.  In snowy New England.  My wife is making her second run at shoveling/snow blowing the driveway.  I hope she does a better job this time.

As for Sager, looking at the times that he posts, it would involve Inhuman Growth Hormone.

Prikkel, with the size of your head I would try and keep a low profile on the steroids issue.  For those of you that have never had the pleasure (or pain) of meeting the Rotund One, think Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  That's what Dennis looks like walking down the street.  :D

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but---Oshkosh 7-0, Stevens Point 7-1 and Wartburg 2-4 (Their 4 losses have come by a total of 18 points to teams with a cummulative record of 26-4)---There's nobody in the conference that is facing that challenge-

I thought it was HGH (High-browed Grammatical Hubris)

sac

When I saw Augustana's schedule over the summer I thought it was probably the toughest in D3, certainly in the top 5 or 10.

I don't think anything's changed that.
