Occidental should try to win there on occasion if they're that good, really.

Sometimes there are just teams/venues that have your number, for whatever reason.  Some great IWU teams have lost @ Elmhurst, when the 'jays were decent, but not a Top 25 team.  For example, IWU's 1995-96 Final Four team that lost to Rowan beat Elmhurst 84-47 in Bloomington and lost at Elmhurst 86-72.  Three of IWU's four Final Four teams, actually, lost at Elmhurst ('96, '01, '06).  It happens in college basketball.

I talked about this with Coach Newhall when I was out there actually - even a few weeks ago he was talking about how much trouble CMS's style gives his team.

There must have been a situation that caused NCC's guards to switch in order for Barringer to defense Raymond :)

You'd think so, since Barringer would be well down my list of NCC perimeter players to put on Raymond, but there were several possessions in which the Cardinals sophomore was clearly assigned to Raymond. It was an interesting night all around for North Central's backcourt alignment, what with Barringer starting at the point and Dean Prince coming off of the bench.

Prince was actually the player to whom I figured Todd Raridon would give the defensive assignment of shadowing Raymond, and yet I didn't see him cover Raymond once all night. Probably best not to argue with success, though, as the last five outcomes between the two teams indicate that Raridon clearly has Bill Harris's number.

How 'bout the stats of the two coach's sons in the Midwest region:

Steve Djurickovic (6-3 G, Carthage)
22.3 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4.0 apg
98-126 FT (.778)

Scott Gillespie (6-0 G, Ripon)
21.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.4 apg
83-109 FT (.761)

Not only are these incredible numbers for freshmen (or seniors for that matter), they're amazingly similar to each other.

I would think these two rookies are very close to the top of the Division III free throw attempts list.

Pat, on the one hand, I certainly agree.  If they want respect in the polls, Oxy needs to take care of business, even on the road, bottom line.  On the other hand though, having watched both teams, Oxy really is a top 25 caliber team.  Q and I both agreed they could play with any team in the CCIW this year, and I think they compare favorably to the Trinity team from a couple years ago.  Sometimes, for whatever reason, a team has trouble winning in one particular gym.  I'm sure April can fill us in on Wheaton's record in the Shirk.  Granted the last few years they've fared well there, but since Shirk opened in 94-95, Wheaton hasn't had a whole lot of success there even though they were certainly a top 25 team.  Now obviously those IWU teams had a lot to do with that, but there were definitely years when Wheaton probably had just as much if not more talent than IWU, and they still couldn't win in Shirk.

Illinois Wesleyan is a fair bit better than Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, though, yes? I think IWU is more of a reason for Wheaton's struggles in the Shirk than the building itself.

And I did grant you that fact, but still there were years when Wheaton probably had a better team than IWU on paper, and still struggled in Shirk.  Bottom line, Oxy needs to beat a team like C.M.S. (whom Oxy is clearly better than), and this would be moot.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Yeah, I know I did a fair amount of repeating, but I was trying to say that IWU:Wheaton 1994-present is not the same as CMS:Occidental 2003-08. :)

Ok, so CMS doesn't have 4 Final Four banners hanging in the gym from recent years, but you get the point.  :)

I'm just glad I was on the winning side of that game in 2004, right April?.......

Well, tonight the magic ends. The league will no longer consist of a heretofore-unprecedented eight-way tie for first (and last) place.

Seems almost a shame ... like having to pick up a quarter that somehow landed on its edge when you dropped it, because you really need it for the pop machine.

IWU 62
Millikin 47

* Darius Gant: 17 pts, 9 reb
* Travis Rosenkranz: 13 pts, 5 reb, 6 assists
* Brett Chamernik: 12 pts, 6 reb

IWU led the entire way by an average of 7-8 points.  Things got tight with 5:00 to play (48-45), but the Titans executed very well down the stretch...something they didn't do in the final minute at Carthage.

A nice road win for the Titans.
