Finally, yet most proudly...

5.  The Carlson Crazies:  GOOD FOR YOU!

It was disappointing to see the steep drop in the enthusiasm and sheer numbers of this group over the past few years.  I long to see the days when a re-incarnated Mike Lundberg slams a giant clown shoe on the ground.

If any of you are reading this, keep it up.  And keep 'em comin.  Pack the joint on Wednesday night, and send the Blue Jays home wondering what happened.

Minus 15 karma, I'm sure.  I'll put it on my resume.

Mike Lundberg and the Big Red Shoe ... now that's a fond memory. Almost as good as the Rally Toad. To this day, the two words "Rally Toad" are enough to make Rob Berki double over in laughter.

mrs ypsi...i dont care if wesleyan beat millikin..would have been by 100 if beauchamp got the opportunity to play. and as for Titan Q...robert might not be the POINT GUARD that sean and travis are...but i bet you 1000 bucks that he would  beat..no no, not the right term...DOMINATE  them in a game of 1-on-1. robert is a 2 guard. and for your info...i knew exactly why robert left the team. cause the coach is a flippin MORON!! since you know travis and sean so well...get them together and i'll get robert to meet them at the gym and see who is better? u down?? oh yea, and dont forget to bring my money either! little trivia for ya mr Q....who was the last player at IWU to play both basketball and football? did anyone else do it this year?? I DIDNT THINK SO. the dude is a STUD! would dominate anyone on that team!!

Millikin jumper guy,

It sounds like Robert Beauchamp is a one-on-one monster.  I know I don't want any part of him - an achilles rupture waiting to happen.

FYI, here are Robert's stats from 31 games at Parkland C.C. last season:

http://www.njcaa.org/schmain.cfm?sid=5&divid=2&gender=m&slid=2&menu=3&seasonselect=347&schmenu=4&cid=1590

7.8 ppg. 3.5 rpg, 2.2 apg
38% FG
24% 3-pt

Here are his point totals from his two IWU JV games this year:

* @ Illinois College: 4 pts
* @ Wash U: 0 pts

As I said, we're really glad to have Robert at IWU - he is a great student, a leader, and a really good football player.  If I need a 2 on 2 partner to take down Titan Hammer, Mr. Beauchamp will be the first guy I call.

How about some reactions to the other posts, gentlemen?

Am I a clown?  Am I here to amuse you?

Better food than K-Mark's kitchen?

I am with those who didn't make the public transportation trip to Wheaton tonight

Cold might be hell, but I'm betting on bad typing skills,

I would be remiss if I didn't give a shout-out to the Carlson Crazies, who were terrific tonight. It was dueling theme nights in King Arena -- Braveheart Night for the Crazies, Superhero Night for the Wheaton football players -- and the Crazies were at their loud and boisterous best. They even brought a bagpiper with them, which brought a hearty round of applause from the CCIW's most conspicuous bagpiper, Marc Horner (NPC '92).

Unfortunately, the Wheaton event staff did everything within their power to throw cold water on the Crazies, including calling out an entire phalanx of Wheaton police officers. There were about a dozen Barney Fifes present by the end of the game (I kept wondering which one had the bullet) who were pointing out Crazies at random and tossing them out of the building, as apparently someone in the gym must've tipped off the WPD that there were a bunch of young males from the big city loose on the Wheaton campus and that they should do something about it. Well, if a bunch of goofy-looking white boys in kilts and blue paint are what passes for the Latin Kings in Wheaton, then some of the locals should get out more.

I jest, but it honestly made Wheaton look bad. The Crazies weren't doing anything out of the ordinary -- and, in fact, I think that they got themselves in more hot water with les gendarmes by correctly pointing out that they weren't doing anything different than their superhero-clad alter egos from Wheaton who were sitting behind the opposite basket. Nobody uttered any words that would've made their mothers wash their mouths out with soap. Nobody got physical. Nobody threw anything. Ostensibly the crackdown came because the piper played "Scotland Forever" and the Crazies got down on the walkway between the endline and the bleachers -- at halftime, when there were no players on the floor -- and danced the Highland fling. During a timeout in the second half they attempted to construct a pyramid ... and it was at that point that the event staff came over to break it up and simultaneously called out the cops. It was a total case of overkill by the Wheaton College event staff and the Wheaton Police Department.

They were just a bunch of college kids having good, clean, loud fun. In spite of my rivalry jests, I have a lot of respect for Wheaton College; but the way that the Crazies were treated tonight made Wheaton College look like a poor host.

Greg------

Perhaps, without knowing it, you actually answered your own question------

From the Wheaton College Community Covenant:

To foster the kind of campus atmosphere most conducive to becoming the Christian community of living, learning, and serving that Wheaton College aspires to be, the College has adopted the following institutional standards. These standards embody such foundational principles as self-control, avoidance of harmful practices, the responsible use of freedom, sensitivity to the heritage and practices of other Christians, and honoring the name of Jesus Christ in all we do.

*On-campus dances will take place only with official College sponsorship. All members of the Wheaton College community will take care to avoid any entertainment or behavior, on or off campus, which may be immodest, sinfully erotic, or harmfully violent (Eph. 4:1-2, 17-24; I Tim. 5:1-2; Gal. 5:22-23).

Perhaps the Powers that be at Wheaton interpreted the NPU students actions as "immodest" (especially if they were wearing kilts!!  ;)  ), "harmfully violent" (the pyramid   :) ) or, my favorite, "sinfully erotic," if the crazies were functioning at the height of their creativity and debauchery.
::)   :o   ;D

With all the good people of Wheaton behaving so well, there often isn't much for the local police department to do on a Sat. night, so any excuse for throwing the sinners out into the cold could well be a source of great celebration and glee for the gendarmes!

VikingBlue- Steve is that good. I was at the game and it was the quietest (if that's a word) 30 points I have seen at Carthage. Carthage won at Elmhurst, beat Augie and IWU at home, where do people see them???

VikingBlue, This was the best team game I have seen at Carthage since I have been there. The student's were awesome and the place was pretty crowded. People should be excited to be at the games. I know the students (I am 1) are excited this year. We were supposed to be nothing and now we are playing to be the best.

I was wondering does anyone see the conference champ being 8-6 or 7-7? The conference is tough and very exciting!!!

Keep it going Redmen!!!!

Three points:

#1--If this is the best team you've seen at Carthage, I doubt you've seen anyone score 30 in a Carthage uniform.  I do agree however, that I was surprised he got 30 as well.  I thought maybe 25 at the end of the night.

#2--Bosko made a comment about the student section on the post-game show saying he wised the kids would should up at 7:15 instead of 7:45.  But he did say that once they got there, they were loud.  It's good to see.  Sitting on the other side of the gym with the old folks (like K-Mark), i was impressed by this year's student section (with the exception of the 4 kids over there who didn't take their hats off for the National Anthem).

#3--There won't be a 7-7 conference champ.  Do the math.

technically there could be, say if a 7-7 team makes the conference tourney and runs the table.  ::)

Watched the Titans vs Bluejays game last evening and must admit it was a very entertaining game.  The Titans youth and lack of physical size really hurt them at crunch time.  IWU came back from 16 down to cut the deficit to 3 through hustle and hard work.  Then inexperience raised it's ugly head with key turnovers and poor shot selection.  After laying a real egg against Carthage, the Bluejays ramped up the defensive intensity and leveraged their size advantage effectively.  It was the best $3 ticket in a long time.
Two things really stand out:  The Titans really need some size down low for the future, otherwise it will be a struggle to return to the top of the CCIW.
Second,  here is a question for all.....when is the last time you saw a 3-second lane violation called?  It appears this year the refs have completely ignored this rule which, in turn, really favors the taller teams like Augie and Elmhurst.  I have been to 6 games and I do not remember one 3-second call.
One final observation;  Steve D is definitely the 'real deal' but I believe he's doing the right thing by playing for his father at the D-3 level...he's All-American caliber for sure but he would not succeed at 165 lbs in D-1.  I also believe IWU's Rosenkranz has the talent to play at the same level.  Travis' issue is he always thinks 'assist' first and shot second.  He failed to take advantage of several open looks and lanes to the basket last evening.

that's the tournament champ, not the conference champ.  There's a difference.

Question to the Prikkel, Q, Sager and Mr. B (or anyone else who might know):  What is the most teams that have made received a tournament bid from the CCIW.  And, what is the over-under on the number that make it this year?
