Can anyone give me a breakdown of Millikin this year?  I know Demby is tough, but what else do they have tonight that will pose a threat to the Redmen?

Ace----

I think their best player is Ogunleye, a quick 6'2" guard who averages 15-16 a game.  I believe he has been CCIW Player of the Week. However, against NCC, he scored only 6, had 2 assists, but 5 TOs, and lost his temper and was hit with a T. I like guard Mike Patrick who shot 7-11 against us and totaled 19 points. Harmsen is a pretty good spot up shooter, and Warren is a slasher who can create and score some, especially in a one on one situation. As far as any inside presence, my personal opinion is 6'7" Ott is their best big man. Not a big scorer (8 vs NCCC) he gets good inside position. 6'8" Rexroade and 6'7" Demby were not impressive at all. Both started, but neither scored a point. Rexroade got 2 boards in 9 minutes, and Demby only 1 in 13 minutes. Neb of the Red Men may have some probs against this team as due to their height, they do have some presence inside on defense. They blocked 10 NCC shots inside. Perimeter defense is poor so the Carthage guards could go off big. Against NCC, they made frequent wholesale lineup changes, and never really developed any one cohesive unit.

Thanks guys for the info...  Sounds like Ogunleye is a pretty good player.  If Carthage can shut him down and Neb/Billy can hold their own inside, then Carthage could neak outta Decatur with a big win.

2. There are several posters here that I both admire and respect. However, no matter who you are and what your status might be, when you start telling any other poster what they can and can't write about then you've crossed the line. Seems like thats called dictatorship, and I think I read something about that not being a very good way to run things.

You're not in favor of dictatorships I take it...   :P :P :P :P :P

Spoken by a man who spent 3 days rambling on about the treatment of NPU fans by Wheaton security and the correct coaching protocol (thanks for the lesson) for handling a player during a game---No need to change the game plan until the game itself changes---Let's see---27 FT's from a skinny PG vs 15 team FT's for a team with 2 legitimate inside scoring threats ---Seems fair to me

Three days? Check this week's posts again, mon ami. My last posts on either incident that took place at the NPU @ WC game were on Monday night. That's two days, not three.

Uhm, I deleted a post that came the next day because I really, really wanted the conversation to end...

Titan Hammer - what year were you?  I was a good friend of Dan Mulkerin's and there were definite drawbacks to going down to IWU in the 80s.  That said - players knew what was involved and adjusted as best they could.  The NPC teams that won three straight D3 titles could't win way down south, but IWU had a hard time in the city as well.

I personally see a general decline in the quality of the refs calling CCIW games.  Some of the guys call absolutely nothing but out of bounds plays for entire games.  I realize it's one of the toughest jobs out there, but some (not by any means all) of the league refs are just mailing it in.  This is a shame, but considering the abuse they put up with for small paychecks, not all that surprising.

Tonight's finals:

Wheaton over Elmhurst, 79-75 OT
Carthage over Millikin, 66-62
Augie over NCC, 70-60
IWU over NPU, 57-55

mr_b

Final from the Crackerbox: Illinois Wesleyan 57, North Park 55.  The Titans were leading by 1 with 2 seconds to go when the Vikings were whistled for a foul as they were battling for the ball under their own basket... I'll let Greg Sager give the details because he was seated much closer to the action.

Huge night for Nick Williams -- 21 points, I believe.

Huge win by the Thunder at Elmhurst. the stat line tells a very interesting story. I would love to hear from those who were there.

Raymond 33 pts (4-8 from 3pt)
panner 18pts (4-4 from 3pt)
wiele 16 and 12 (fouled out)

burks 13
ruch 19
strzremp 16

elmhurst outrebounds wheaton 51-34; wheaton shoots 61% from the arc; elmhurst shoots 26 free throws to wheaton's 10

This is one of those - "if you can't say anything good" situations.

Give IWU credit for adapting to the reffing crew that couldn't - there was one foul called on each team under the 8:00 mark of the second half.  Those guys took 37 minutes off and then decided to decide the game on their own.  So it goes.   I will let Greg chronicle the history of the ref who made the decisive call...

I was impressed with Rosekranz and Chamernik - they played a smart game and stayed withing what they can do.  Sexhauer (forgive any misspellings, I'm doing this from a damaged memory) had a really nice game - too bad NP didn't realize he's completely left handed.

I think that Sean Johnson lead the field in travels that were not called (these guys really called nothing tonight), though Jay Alexander and Joe Calpabo (special mention for Sexhauer) were in the running as well.

I will be happy to hear what Q has to say about  the game tonight

robberki

I have never been witness to such an officiating debacle than what went down tonight on the corner of foster and kedzie. I can't even get in to the rest of the game, because despite the officiating it was a great, rough and tumble night in the CCIW. The last 10 seconds, however, are sure to live on in every North Parker's nightmare. Down two, Jay Alexander gets fouled and heads to the line. Hits the first, misses the second and the normal last second rebounding scrum ensues. There's a lot of tipped balls, missed put backs, etc. until Nick Williams comes up with the ball and hits a turn around fade-away jumper from the baseline to win the game.......OR NOT. I'm not even sure who the foul was called on because all hell broke loose and I never got what the call was, but it was offensive and apparently on the very guy who just hit what everyone in the gym thought was the game winner. I alternated between shock and extreme anger for the five minutes I lingered in the gym after the game. In my life, i've never seen an official determine the outcome of a game with an offensive foul in the closing seconds of regulation. There isn't even the normal "well, we would have never known how this was going to turn out..." argument because Nick hit the game winning shot....just unbelievable. I can't believe how this went down...I'm incredibly angry right now.
The only other thing I'll say right now is what a great environment tonight in the crackerbox. Saw a lot of alumni, great student section...just a great, great environment.

Let me give a serious congratulation to the IWU fans who were at North Park tonight.  They were in every way classy and supportive of their school.

Why does it seem that some NCC fans always contend that the Cardinals are getting the short end of the stick with the officials.  What about the foul against Simmons with no time left last year?  I don't know if I've ever seen a more questionable call than that.  And that game was AT Augie.  It's fine if you think NCC is constantly getting hosed by the officials, but just keep it to yourself.  It gets old reading about it.

I've been playing diplomat all week between opposing sides in the Albion/Calvin game from a week ago.  Both sides think the other got the short of the stick with the officials.  Its all about the shades of glasses you have on and what you want to see and believe to make you feel better.

Bottom line, its not very original content and frankly not much fun to read about every single game night.  I enjoy reading about the CCIW, but as soon as a post gets to officiating I tune it out and move on to the next.

This is the worst call in basketball history, you'll never see a worse one, and be thankfull you don't.

sac,

Well, it would seem your words were shortlived and your video clip, by all accounts coming from the Parkers, has now officially been trumped.

NPC-Alum

It's the combination of the call - and who made the call, that really hurt tonight.

I'm waiting to hear from Q - but honestly the game tonight could have done without refs for 37 minutes, no problem.
